Many people try to force-install the wrong type of RAM onto their laptops as I did! it is quite important to mention that SODIMM DDR1 and DDR2 modules slightly differ! I found out by searching Google for DDR1 Versus DDR2 Notebook Memory. Go to legitreviews-dot-com slash article slash 212 slash 2. Thanks for the video.
@ZombieProdigy1 just buy another ram stick that corresponds to the memory capabilities of the motherboard. for example my laptop can support ram sticks up to 8gb
@ZombieProdigy1 also make sure the type of memory is compatible, for example my comp uses DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-12800 or just DDR3 non-ECC. make sure u are also using the right pin type. mine is 204-pin SoDIMM.
Hey, can somebody help me here? I have a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile v5515 laptop, but unfortunately, I accidentally broke the screen. I still have an old Compaq Armada 110, and I wanted to know if it's 14.1-inch TFT XGA Display Panel could serve as a replacement for the Fujitsu's one. If anybody knows the answer, I would really appreciate you to tell me, please.

@MineCraft720 There is something called page file found under Performance in System Properties. That can be used to make a set amount of storage space act as virtual RAM. To find it...press Windows button(on keyboard)+PAUSE/BREAK then go to Advanced...then performance...then second tab.
@MineCraft720 Okay if you are on the screen that says Page file or Virtual Memory, you can let the system take care of it by pressing System Managed Size and pressing okay. This will use a small part of your HDD storage to act like RAM, making your computer run faster. However, you should also upgrade physical RAM, do not just depend on this. Hope that helps, any questions you can ask in my channel or email me.
Clicked on this video below the RAM recommendation for my laptop. Stupidly thought it might be specific for my laptop not some generic video. The site failed to tell me the memory module was under the keyboard.
It doesn't matter if the computer's even from 2004. Haha, It's the hardware capabilities that make the laptop. I have a 2004 Toshiba Satellite and it has a 3.40 GHz Processor Intel Pentium 4 with G-Force FX graphics card, and I figure it'll run windows 7 pretty smoothly once I max out the 4 GB memory. :D
I was wondering, and this will probably be a dumb question, but why take out the battery when installing? Is because one could shock oneself or because with an active power supply one could short out the 'puter?
hey dude im thinking on instaling new memory but i need to know a few small things:) 1st will i need to reinstall windows? and second will it make my laptop faster? because its from like 2007? please respond ASAP
@ABZ6381 U will not need to reinstall windows at all. if u add more memory best way is to buy identical to your exisiting module laptos have 2 slots ...just duplicate your memory by buying another module.
right now i have a Gateway ID series and my old laptop broke... and i was thinking if i can install the RAM from my old Toshiba Satellite RAM to my new Gateway Laptop... is it gonna work?? and become faster??
@projecthomecoming NO. the modules have to be similar in capacity, speed, non ecc, ecc...etc...if u only have to slots...ON PCs with 4 slots look the motherboard manual on how to add more memory of different capacities.
Very helpful, thank you! I need upgrade the memory on my laptop, but wanted to make sure I could change it out myself before I make my purchase. I googled "how to install memory on a laptop" and this video showed up on the first page of the search results. Looks simple enough, thanks again!

if i add another 256mb stick, ill it make my laptop faster? i currently have one 256 and one 128. If I rerplaced the 128 with my secon 256, would it make a difference speed wise?
When I went to install my new RAM, the notch in the new RAM stick was positioned farther to the right than my older one, so it doesn't fit. The new RAM stick is the same height and width as my old one, its just that the notch wont fit into the one on my Lenovo Thinkpad. Any solutions? :(
I just added a gig today and it wouldn't stay clipped either. First make sure it is the right one and everything is lining up. Then take it out and then slightly bend the silver clips inward so that that they will have a stronger grasp on the side of the memory when it is pushed down all the way. you may have to use a tooth pick or something to hold the clips out of the way when putting the memory back in. just don't use anything metal.
Hey,Farcry , the memory = virtual memory = RAM ; your Hard Drive is your GB - you take the RAM out, your laptop may just not work until you stick another RAM stick in...Did it clear anything ? (you won't lose anything).
just pop it in, you might have to save the settings the next time you start up your computer but you don't have to download anything. just make sure it found the memory and hit save.

Memory only store information while there is power going to the module. Once power is disconnected then all information is cleared. So you shouldn't lose anything when upgrading memory.
you forgot something very important if possible alway use an anti static wrist strap and change your ram in a uncarpeted area to avoid any more static build up and alway hold ram by its edges never touch the pins at the bottom i dont think anyone wants stand in line for 10 minutes to buy ram then go home and destroy their ram in les than a second lol
Hi, I have a Dell Latitude E6500 and the bottom is all one panel, and I've unscrewed every screw i can find but the panel still won't come up. Where should I go from here?
The second memory socket on this notebook is under the keyboard, which we recommend professional installation. Many notebooks have both sockets in the same access panel and are easily changed like in the video.
@4allmemorydotcom Does a store like bestbuy or staples do professional installation of the second memory socket for free or no? around how much would it cost
Hello, memory is cleared every time the power is shut off. So you would not have to reinstall any programs as no data is permanently stored in memory.
Thank you, it looks easier than I thought. Can I please ask you, I have a HP laptop, G5056EA and want to put a 200gb memory card in it. When it is in, does the items that were on my old card, now show up on the new one? Also, with this particular laptop, what is the maximum memory I can put into it? I was told to check with supplier but I cannot find anything online and am still waiting for HP support to get back to me. Thank you, hope the questions aren't too dumb!!
I believe that you are talking about a Hard Drive (200GB memory card). If so, the information on your hard drive will need to be transfer to the new one. There are several cloning kits out there that make the process easy and fairly quick (1-2 hours). Per HP's specs, this laptop can take a max RAM of 2GB. If you are looking for storage space (Hard Drive) a good rule of thumb is to not exceed 4x the original HDD space. Yours has 120GB, so anything under 500GB should work. Hope this helps.
I have a Gateway MT 3705 with 1GB and I wannna upgrade it to 2GB. Once I finish the installation, Is there any software procedure to follow so the computer understand it has 2 GB?
Hello you can check the system properties to make sure that the memory is being recognized by windows. The easiest way to get there is to right click on my computer and go to properties. It should be under the General Tab.
Hi, this tutorial really helped me so thank you for that! Although, I have a couple of questions.
Once I've put the memory in, how do I know if it's working and stuff? How do I check it on my laptop? (I have Windows Vista)...is there anything else I need to do, i.e install it on my laptop?
Also, by ground yourself, am I right in saying all you need to do is just touch a piece of metal (a radiator would be fine?) and it would be ok?
To ground your self, all you would need to do is touch some metal. I would also suggest handling it in a static free enviornment. RAM is plug and play so you do not need to install anything additional. You can check in your "My Computer" section of you laptop to see how much RAM is being used, You can also check in the bios. You should also see a dramatic change in operating speed. Hope this helps.
Please make sure that you have an HP Pavilion DV4000 and not an HP DV4000 (CTO). These two modules look very similar in model name but are completely different computers and take completely different memory. The HP Pavilion DV4000 has a maximum capacity of 2 GB with 2 memory slots. For you to max out, you would need two 1 GB modules of DDR-333 (PC2700) SO-DIMMs. You can get this memory on our site. Hope this helps.
This was not a Gateway MA7. Many Laptops have 2 expansion slots. Sometimes one is under the keyboard. Please look at your user manual for specifics. Hope this helps!
i have a question. i am thinking of buying a M17 alienware laptop (but the ram is ridiculously expensive) so i want to add 2 2gb ram sticks. is there any risk in doing this?? like electrocuting it with the current through my hand? and what ram would i need to use?
Yeah I would recommend just getting two 2GB modules and being ok with the tiny loss. There really is no other way to max it out except getting the lastest service pack and eventually upgrading to a 64 bit OS. Hope this helps!
3 to 3.5 GB memory? at the mo i got 2GB and i wanted to upgrade it, but i read online cuz i using vista 32bit maximum memory for it is 3/3.5 :) just wanted to know :)
You would want to find out what the max is for your computer and how many expansion slots you have. There is no odd # of GB modules except 1 but you can install a 512 MB stick. So if you had 4 slots, you could have a 2GB, 1GB, and 512MB installed. Without knowing your model, we wouldn't know what yours can take. You can go on our site to look up your computer. If you are running 32 bit Vista, you may have issues with upgrade beyond the 3-3.5 as you mentioned. Hope this helps!
When installing memory, it is usually just plug and play. Sometimes, but not always, it is necessary to update your system to the latest BIOS when installing additional memory. Consult with your manufacture for the best recommendation/information on the BIOS. Hope this helps!
Yes, the procedure is essentially the same in any laptop. It is always best to check with your owners manual as no two laptops are built the same. Hope this helps!
going from 2 gig to 4, took out 2 1gigs and replaced with 2 2gig is there a way to check both new memory are working as the system folder still says 2 gig memory in the computer discription/
The best way to check for a bad module is to try each one alone in the system. You may need to also update the BIOS when adding additonal memory. For this you will want to go to the manufacture website. Hope this helps!
just touch something and touch it every 30 seconds or so. The main thing is just to make sure your not wearing something that creates a lot of static and don't walk around on carpet with your socks on.
RAF92Warhawk is correct. You just need to make sure that you do not have static electricity around you. You can also prevent this by purchasing and anti-static wrist strap. Hope this helps!
You will not get electrocuted by installing memory. Any time you are dealing with memory in a laptop you must unplug the computer and take out the battery. It is also important to "ground" yourself by touching something metal before dealing with the memory. Using an Anti-Static Wrist Strap will also help prevent any shock. Hope this helps!
I was looking for a video to demonstrate to an online friend... This is nice, great job. If there's just one little constructive piece of criticism I can offer, it's that 200-pin DDR and DDR2 RAM sticks look almost exactly the same- the alignment notch is just 1mm or less off. It's a good practise to make sure the installer has the correct memory. If they have 200-pin SODIMM's damage could easily be done by mistaking them and trying to force incompatible RAM into the slot. However, Nice work ty!
Thank you for your comment. You are correct in that DDR & DDR2 are just a pin off. We do list all computer models coinciding with the compatible memory so that can be avoided. We appreciate your feedback!
Yes, that is the second slot. You have a total of two slots. Each can hold 1GB max. To get to 2GB, you would need to install 1 in the slot under the keyboard. This is tricky, b/c there are many important wires that connect your keyboard to the rest of the computer. If you pull too hard and sever that connection, you will not be able to use your keyboard and repairs are expensive. We recomend taking these installs to techs that will guarantee their service. Hope this helps.
Hello, you can but I wouldn't recomend it if any power current is traveling through your motherboard while you are uninstalling your old memory and install the new modules, you run the risk of fatally damaging your motherboard. To be safe, unplug the power cable and take out the battery. This will elliminate any chance of this issue occuring. Hope this helps.
if you didnt know, there is also a ram slot inside the machine, but its not worth getting to. so you could potentially have 4gb of ram on your machine but it wouldnt be worth it, its under the keyboard and the express card slot, you would have to do some major surgery to get to it.
Yes, there are some laptops that have additional memory sockets underneath the keyboard. However, not all do. I would suggest consulting you manual or calling a professional before getting underneath your keyboard. You can also check on out website of give us a call to find out your maximum memory and number of expansion sockets.
Thanks for the constructive criticism. While we constantly receive compliments on these videos, I can see how a tighter camera angle could enhance the viewing experience. I will see what we can do to make these adjustments.
not the best video that show the part yet; because this is simply about managing your RAM then you should focus the camera view entirely to the RAM so we can get clearest view.
Replacing your RAM won't change anything that is stored on your hard drive. RAM stores only temporary info while you're working, so no worries there. Hope that helps!

It's possible your Thinkpad may not support that type of RAM.
Depending on when your notebook was manufactured it may not support DDR2 RAM and you might have just bought DDR2 RAM.
However, this is just a guess and I could help more if I knew exact details.

i upgraded from 2 gigs to 4 gigs and my laptop became slower...any idea on why that happened?
poppinsquirtle 2 years ago
That could be due to a bad memory module. I would try the new modules one at a time to see if they are functioning correctly.
4allmemorydotcom 2 years ago
@poppinsquirtle Depending on ur laptop, exceeding the Ram size it takes it can make it slower, Or its cuz of bad quality of ram
Epicrofls 1 year ago
@poppinsquirtle it could only support 2gb :(

helpful vid. I juz wanna ask, after you install the RAM thing, do you need to setup something when you turn the Laptop On?
GemsOrpahdeRosas 2 years ago
No RAM is plug and play, you do not need to install any software or set up on the laptop.

I have 2 memory cards, 1GB each. How do I get both of them in?
109bronze 2 years ago
The second memory socket on this notebook is under the keyboard, which we recommend professional installation. Many notebooks have both sockets in the same access panel and are easily changed like in the video.

Hello! Is it possible to add 256mb+512 of ram to my computer? Or: 512mb + 512mb
huudiduu 2 years ago
Hello, memory is cleared every time the power is shut off. So you would not have to reinstall any programs as no data is permanently stored in memory.
4allmemorydotcom 2 years ago
Thank you, it looks easier than I thought. Can I please ask you, I have a HP laptop, G5056EA and want to put a 200gb memory card in it. When it is in, does the items that were on my old card, now show up on the new one? Also, with this particular laptop, what is the maximum memory I can put into it? I was told to check with supplier but I cannot find anything online and am still waiting for HP support to get back to me. Thank you, hope the questions aren't too dumb!!
prisonerfan 2 years ago

Once I finish the installation, Is there any software procedure to follow so the computer understand it has 2 GB?
thanks again for this video
Sbsdiaz 2 years ago
Hello you can check the system properties to make sure that the memory is being recognized by windows. The easiest way to get there is to right click on my computer and go to properties. It should be under the General Tab.
4allmemorydotcom 2 years ago
no it doesn't need any software or anything

Hi, this tutorial really helped me so thank you for that! Although, I have a couple of questions.
Once I've put the memory in, how do I know if it's working and stuff? How do I check it on my laptop? (I have Windows Vista)...is there anything else I need to do, i.e install it on my laptop?
Also, by ground yourself, am I right in saying all you need to do is just touch a piece of metal (a radiator would be fine?) and it would be ok?
Thanks!
NUFCSuraj 2 years ago
To ground your self, all you would need to do is touch some metal. I would also suggest handling it in a static free enviornment. RAM is plug and play so you do not need to install anything additional. You can check in your "My Computer" section of you laptop to see how much RAM is being used, You can also check in the bios. You should also see a dramatic change in operating speed. Hope this helps.

what type of memory would I need for my HP Pavillion DV4000?
Aninda619 2 years ago
Please make sure that you have an HP Pavilion DV4000 and not an HP DV4000 (CTO). These two modules look very similar in model name but are completely different computers and take completely different memory. The HP Pavilion DV4000 has a maximum capacity of 2 GB with 2 memory slots. For you to max out, you would need two 1 GB modules of DDR-333 (PC2700) SO-DIMMs. You can get this memory on our site. Hope this helps.
4allmemorydotcom 2 years ago
This was not a Gateway MA7. Many Laptops have 2 expansion slots. Sometimes one is under the keyboard. Please look at your user manual for specifics. Hope this helps!

i have a question. i am thinking of buying a M17 alienware laptop (but the ram is ridiculously expensive) so i want to add 2 2gb ram sticks. is there any risk in doing this?? like electrocuting it with the current through my hand? and what ram would i need to use?
FightingWithDylan 2 years ago
Yeah I would recommend just getting two 2GB modules and being ok with the tiny loss. There really is no other way to max it out except getting the lastest service pack and eventually upgrading to a 64 bit OS. Hope this helps!
4allmemorydotcom 2 years ago
might be random but is there a
3 to 3.5 GB memory? at the mo i got 2GB and i wanted to upgrade it, but i read online cuz i using vista 32bit maximum memory for it is 3/3.5 :) just wanted to know :)
cheers
BIASpotter 2 years ago
You would want to find out what the max is for your computer and how many expansion slots you have. There is no odd # of GB modules except 1 but you can install a 512 MB stick. So if you had 4 slots, you could have a 2GB, 1GB, and 512MB installed. Without knowing your model, we wouldn't know what yours can take. You can go on our site to look up your computer. If you are running 32 bit Vista, you may have issues with upgrade beyond the 3-3.5 as you mentioned. Hope this helps!

Is that all?
Do you have to change BIOS settings or anything on the laptop itself?
darren 2 years ago
When installing memory, it is usually just plug and play. Sometimes, but not always, it is necessary to update your system to the latest BIOS when installing additional memory. Consult with your manufacture for the best recommendation/information on the BIOS. Hope this helps!
4allmemorydotcom 2 years ago
Is the procedure the same if u want to insert two 1 gigs in the space of one 512?
Thanks soo much for the video, btw...
luzbel9980 2 years ago
Yes, the procedure is essentially the same in any laptop. It is always best to check with your owners manual as no two laptops are built the same. Hope this helps!

going from 2 gig to 4, took out 2 1gigs and replaced with 2 2gig is there a way to check both new memory are working as the system folder still says 2 gig memory in the computer discription/
virgkw 2 years ago
The best way to check for a bad module is to try each one alone in the system. You may need to also update the BIOS when adding additonal memory. For this you will want to go to the manufacture website. Hope this helps!

do you simply touch something to ground yourself? Or do you need to hold onto something during the whole process of installation?
sonne5 2 years ago
just touch something and touch it every 30 seconds or so. The main thing is just to make sure your not wearing something that creates a lot of static and don't walk around on carpet with your socks on.
RAF92Warhawk 2 years ago
RAF92Warhawk is correct. You just need to make sure that you do not have static electricity around you. You can also prevent this by purchasing and anti-static wrist strap. Hope this helps!

will this electricute you because i need to remove the ram but i am afraid to because i dont want to be electricuted
so could you send me a message about that? I will sub if you do
67845connor 3 years ago

However, Nice work ty!
p00pindas00p 3 years ago
Thank you for your comment. You are correct in that DDR & DDR2 are just a pin off. We do list all computer models coinciding with the compatible memory so that can be avoided. We appreciate your feedback!

i have a question
i have an acer travelmate 4000
it has 2 ram slots and it says i can only have 2gb maximum ram i was wondering if it is 2gb per slot or 2g for both slots
hellocosmos 3 years ago
Your travelmate has a maximum capacity of 2GB total. So you can place 1GB module in each slot. You can match it exactly on our site. Hope this helps.
4allmemorydotcom 3 years ago
ok but what about the slot under the keyboard
can i add mor memory there?ps your answer helped thnx
hellocosmos 3 years ago
Yes, that is the second slot. You have a total of two slots. Each can hold 1GB max. To get to 2GB, you would need to install 1 in the slot under the keyboard. This is tricky, b/c there are many important wires that connect your keyboard to the rest of the computer. If you pull too hard and sever that connection, you will not be able to use your keyboard and repairs are expensive. We recomend taking these installs to techs that will guarantee their service. Hope this helps.

but i have 3 slots 1 under the keyboard and 2 nder the machine
i have 2 ram sticks under and i think 1 under the keyboard
also one of my dad best freind and buisnes asociat is a computer tech and he does for free for me he has known me since i was a baby lol

i opened that and was afraid to touch anything. thank you so much for all your help ill be able to install it now.
cdemarco85 3 years ago
Hello, you can but I wouldn't recomend it if any power current is traveling through your motherboard while you are uninstalling your old memory and install the new modules, you run the risk of fatally damaging your motherboard. To be safe, unplug the power cable and take out the battery. This will elliminate any chance of this issue occuring. Hope this helps.

if you didnt know, there is also a ram slot inside the machine, but its not worth getting to. so you could potentially have 4gb of ram on your machine but it wouldnt be worth it, its under the keyboard and the express card slot, you would have to do some major surgery to get to it.
xxprojektrevolution 3 years ago
Yes, there are some laptops that have additional memory sockets underneath the keyboard. However, not all do. I would suggest consulting you manual or calling a professional before getting underneath your keyboard. You can also check on out website of give us a call to find out your maximum memory and number of expansion sockets.
4allmemorydotcom 3 years ago
well right now im using a macbook pro, maxed out at 4 gb of ram, but on my old gateway, there was an additional memory slot underneath the keyboard.

Thanks for the constructive criticism. While we constantly receive compliments on these videos, I can see how a tighter camera angle could enhance the viewing experience. I will see what we can do to make these adjustments.

not the best video that show the part yet; because this is simply about managing your RAM then you should focus the camera view entirely to the RAM so we can get clearest view.

shadowdragon1997 3 years ago
Nah. That data is stored on your harddrive (assuming you saved the word pad document)
OjohYou 3 years ago
Replacing your RAM won't change anything that is stored on your hard drive. RAM stores only temporary info while you're working, so no worries there. Hope that helps!
