  • I hav seen a lot of complaints about this great teacher. My dear friends u found mistakes in his lessons. I f you can be a good teacher then u post videos without any mistake. Mr .Venkat is trying to teach lessons very easily, everybody can learn from him. your people can do only one thing in ur whole life just find others mistakes.... keep going

  • what type of tabla are these?

  • I know you have heard it before but thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. This a very interesting instrument and you do a very good job at explaining how it is played. I appreciate your time.

  • nice ... thx for posting. could that guys finger move any faster, whoa!

  • What's up I've subscribed to your videos in the past. Great lessons except I stopped playing now because my joints hurt. and I just wanted to make a request. Can you make a warm up exercise before playing. It would be much appreciated. That would help lots and prevent me from injuring myself while playing the tablas lol!

    Your fan

  • You need to play Teen Taal, Vilambit, Dugun & chaugun. Bols are:-

Dha Dhin Dhin Dha | Dha Dhin Dhin Dha Dha Tin Tin Ta | Ta Dhin Dhin Dha

  • Thak you very much for your tabla lessons.

  • Many many thanks for your tabla lessons.

  • dude, I respect you and ur emotions but being a tabla wadak i can't let u teach wrong.

You are playing "tee" on luv portion buyt it is played on syahi.

Ya I know everybody is goin 2 rate it down as a poor comment.

  • no i think people that learn tabla are more open minded and respect other peoples point of view and side of the conversation.. your on +2

  • Thank you for the reply.

If you are related to music. You may join my community on orkut "Live The Music".

    Keep in touch.

  • @rishabhrocks1901you may be right or you may be wron I have not the knowledge or understanding at this present time but dont the precise techniques/strokes/bols vary between the gharanas? something I picked up from a relatively obscure book by james kippen: the lucknow tabla

  • @rishabhrocks1901 there are no wrong ways of playing. there are many ways of playing out there... i learned different than him also. for example what he calls tin i call tun and what i call tin is different also

  • @rishabhrocks1901 i know what yur trying to tell him but probably he's teaching those people that way because he may be learning a different gharana and u jnow different gharanas have different stuff

  • Good intros Bro ~ at least you are out there ~ I have my intermediate to advanced stuff on the net.

  • @azizxa dude, your dumb....

  • prick

  • @azizxa ~ Dude you are too funny for making fun of a man who is TEACHING rather than HATING. People like you live with their mothers in the Basement

  • why?

  • So Dagga basically voices and aspirates! Doesnt it? Or incase of Dravidian speakers it simply brings about voicing! :)

  • Perhaps you have good knowledge in this field, you are welcome to teach by you tube s per your good knowledge.

  • Mr. IF YOU TEACH ME THEN I CAN PAY YOU.I AM LEARNING FROM YOUR YOU TUBE CLASS AND IT HELPS ME A LOT.

  • that tabla is a mini drum piano isnt it?

  • he's using his finger like a drumstick. crazy

  • what a versatile drum

  • Your the best Keep it going and if posible please play some tals like Kahrwa, Dadra and so on

    whish you all the best

  • What do you call the type of drum that sounds like it has water in it? I think it is heard alot in Indian music.

  • i find it soo time consuming to learn to play from scratch so I've taught myself by the ear, i guess it's just easier to play as a hobbie than professionally. Although I do play professionally, some say I should learn the basics but I've somehow picked it up from watching ustads play. People have different way's of learning and playing so it doesn't really matter, as long as your not hammering away on the surface!

  • very helpful, but what does the powder do?

  • fksdjfsdkfjskdlf

  • gosh i want a tabla....where can i buy them?

  • the net?

  • nice

  • Amazing work brother. Keep it up

  • hi sir, i'm in my beginning ..just got my first tabla but i need to know more about tunning ...

  • Thank you

  • bayan has a nice sound. is it made from copper? how heavy is it?

  • This is so generous of you to share your time and skills with us. Thank you VERY much!!!

  • I think these lessons are fine, I did not mean to insult him when I was talking earlier. I was misunderstood.

  • his voice puts me to sleep, its so relaxing

  • thank you bro.

    this is very helpful

  • you're very good

  • at about 2 min. into the video you turn your dayan a bit and begin playing at a spot where it is horribly out of tune. why? you should tune your tabla to the proper swara to set a good example for students.

  • "Ta Tee Tin" as the small tabla' sound and

"Dha Dhee Dhin" as the big tabla' sound??

  • could not catch.........

  • search for "SUBHEN CHATTERJEE"..............listen to some exciting clips/experiments on the TABLA....

  • thank you very much for everything

  • thanks a lot

  • wonderful job keep it up God Bless you !!

  • Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together! Peace.

  • Hey bro what a wonderful tabla lesson but I cant download it from realone anymore can you plz email it to me I would appreciate it thnx bro

  • If you want to download use 'download helper' addon for mozilla firefox

  • thanks

  • whateva kids....obviously you don't have a clue what i'm talking about and i wish you luck when all the bad habits you pick up, will have to reversed. making it twice as hard to play...that's fine..Venkat irespect you as a tabla player and send much love your way...i apologize if i offended you, and admire your courage and dedication in the face of people like me spewing poop out in your direction....but one last thing...please learn how to play Tin.....it's atrocious.

  • Rory.. if you think you r such an expert, try doing one of these teaching videos before opening you big mouth..appreciate others. everyone is at diff levels..when you play many will criticize u too..don't be surprised

  • the bigger one is usually metal and the smaller one can be made of wood or a form of clay

  • I started to play the tabla a year ago and it is quite difficult to master the notes especially to get the deep sound of the Ge/DHA. You play very well but play the notes slightly different to my guru. Thank you for taking the trouble to do this, your finish was lovely to hear

  • tabla kadey wee inuuu dey upar rakh key nahin tune hundaa

    dhileay lun dee padayeish

  • what are your tablas made of?

  • I agree with many of you....Venkat, you should not be teaching tabla...all you are doing is misleading people and trapping them with bad technique and speech which will be hard to reverse if they ever get a real teacher...there is no finesse or clarity or consistency in your playing, and i guarantee you can't play at high speeds

sorry brother...i love you, but you should be the one taking lessons from a true guru

  • This person went though a lot of trouble to make these videos and upload them here. I have been watching this person. I am a beginner. I am very thankful to this teacher. Please do not criticise this great teacher. He is very inspriring to me as a beginner.

  • Rsz:

    Go elwsewhere to learn.

  • Mrgyn

    Go elwsewhere to learn.

    Where? At your home ?

  • rorydo.. why u upset with him? if u can do better, show on youtube else...shut up. he is doing better job than your capcious nature. jai hind

  • Speak for your self. I hate those who complain but can't do any better themselves. Keep it up Venkat. I totally agree with Presism. I found it very usefull.

  • Thanks so much I' m happ tohave ound these videos. As I' m going to fab India in 2 weeks for holidays and can't wait. Always thought to get tabla which I love the sound. Anyone is so nice to suggest me what could be a fair price for a tabla for a beginner? Thanks so much!

  • Thanks Venkat. You are quite generous. I have been through all your lessons. Are you going to add more? I love the Tabla!

  • Thanks for viewing. I apologize to all for not uploading any new lessons for quite some time. I shall produce more and upload soon.

    Venkat

  • Thanks Guru

I am 45 yrs and been trying to learn Table . Seems time has come for me to do now upon earning for the same since I was child

It has been never so eay in histry of mankind to lern so eaily and itsonly due to spirit of ones like you..

    Sanjay Talekar Pune

  • Its good to know that there are mature people out there enjoying learning at a mature age, I am 50 years old and like you have discovered an enjoyable adventure that will last forever! (Learned to play harmonium and sing bhajans at 45) Good luck....Ganesh London

  • this guy shouldnt be teaching anyone....he needs at least a good grounding...all technials are not there.. his 'tee' and his 'ge ge' is not ge ge at all..

and its tit kit. te-te-ki-te. not how he is saying.. it was funny when he said it comes with practise!!!a teacher must be a decent one hu teaches technicals...else, nothing is achieved..

  • Dude there are different styles of Tabla..different gharanas...

just because what he is doing is not familiar to you...does not mean he is wrong ...he is just playing one of the other 1 of 6 styles of Tabls from the 6 accepted gharanas of Tabla in India..

Perhaps it is you who does not enough about indian tabla music history!

  • umn how dyu ply dhri , geri and oda st uv lyk tht pls post a vidio on how 2 ply it

  • Oh, my friend what an amazing lesson. Just what I was looking for.

  • I have ordered tabla this week, will start practising your lessons.

Thanks for the great inspiration and easy to learn lessons.

  • Where'd you order it from? I want one. But i'm poor.

  • u can a good one one eBay for 150

  • I get what you are trying to do here, but I wouldn't suggest beginners in tabla to learn from this video because some of your techniques aren't correct. This can ultimately mess people up if they try to learn properly.

  • well...im new learning tabla so tell us what is wrong with his techniques.

  • thin is played more so on the edge of the shahi(black). its played on the same spot as the ring finger so you would have to use more wrist on it.Thun and thin are basically the same, it's just that the thun way is used more in classical. Plus the way he plays thun is not in the right spot becuase what happens is that it sounds very rough.

  • Thi is played wrong as well here. Thi should be played with the middle finger right in the middle of the shahi as you would similar to playing the or te. Also, Ghee and ghe are actaully the same. You would distinguish b/w them in the way that each is pressed, but it's only pronounced as GHE. Ie. If you press, you would say ghe with a high voice to match how much you are pressing it. If its just open, then you would pronounce it in a low voice.

  • As you see here, his positioning is totally lost as he speeds up, making everything sound sloppy. The most important thing is to get right technique before speed. Clarity is also very important. Here there is 0% clarity as far as im concerned. I think people should learn from a teacher instead of a video becuase that way if they are doing something wrong, their teacher can show them. How would a person know if they are doing something wrong w/o a proper teacher.

  • you talk too much, if you are so sure of your self then be brave enogh and post your own videos, then i will see how good you are, otherwise leave us alone, because whatever it is we like this guy and the way he teaches us

  • hes jus suggesting u igornant retard and whos we? hes just giving u his point of view, isnt that why we can comment, its up to you to take the advice or not

  • this in reply to "deeba"

  • Ok YOU son of a bitch, get lost now

  • thanks for help !

    You lesson is very clear

I' m beghinner in play tabla

  • ur supposed to play tin on the inner ring and te on the black!!!

  • dude, at least tune your tabla first. you should really remove this, so people don't try to copy you and mess up their hands...you need preofessional lessons bud...

  • Don't worry, this is more than enough for beginers to start with .Very good lesson.

  • I would think beginners would have to worry becuase without having proper technique, a person would not get very far in learning, thus making it seemingly pointless.

  • If you feel some thing is not correct in these lessons respond by making better free tabla lessons than this one,I would appreciate that.

  • hi venkat! iv just started playin the tabla at the beginning of this year. Im 14 years old, but i have no1 to teach me. wat is the difference between Ga and Ge? could u also explain more letters in more detail and show exactly where to hit those letters on the tabla. plz reply soon!

  • when you play fast you seem to move your fingers away from the original positions which you showed. is it to do with experience.

  • yaar, you make it look so easy. please kindly show which part of the finger should i use. is it the first part of the 3 parts of finger.
