My dad taped this song off the TV, a Tennessee Ernie Ford Christmas special, 1960ish. We played it over the years at Christmas. And I've never heard it again, until now. I'll bet that reel to reel is still in my mom's basement. Somewhere.
i heard my children's pastor sing this song today in worship. She has an amazing voice that makes me jealous :) It was really beautiful, and they brought all the newborns up to the front.
There's a live recording of this song on youtube for those of you who're interested. He sang it without microphone in the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday. Gosh, I had goose bumps even in my head.
@alex28388 I was there too and it was actually "O Holy Night" that he sang without a microphone but I loved his performance of this song too, I'd never heard it before. A really lovely song :)
Thats interesting. I could be wrong, but I think Rufus would be interested in hearing why, and ask "why?". I am interested too. Answer only if you like..

A Burt is Alfred Burt who wrote many Christmas songs. I grew up with the Jimmy Joyce singers and Alfred Burt carols.

Where is this from? Is recording available? I'm thinking its a holiday collection/various artists type thing. Any help appreciated...

I saw Rufus in Wolverhampton a few years ago ~Wasnt impressed, but "some children see him" has changed my opinion. Martha is great.

easily in love really needs to spend some time listening to rufus' mom and dad

You might want to add the writers of the song to your tags: W. Hutson & A. Burt, according to the liner notes from THE MCGARRIGLE CHRISTMAS HOUR.

Very interesting to hear his deep folk roots.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Horrible, as much as I love Rufus for all his other songs, where he seems such an intelligent world citizen. This song really gives me the creeps.
