It's on the /and/ beat - aka eighth notes, borrowing in its context from Latin rythms. If ever I think of another song as obvious, I'll come back to you. Check out the I Love Lucy theme song - the big band instrumental that opened their show a/o that sung by Desi Arnaz. It's more obviously Latin flavored and if you have crisp audio technology you'll clearly hear that deliberate 'off' beat you've near rightly observed. I swear I'ma leave it alone now. But it was keen shifting perspectives as when viewing 12-line 3d cubes. =]

38:02- heartbreak for Spock! You can see the pain and hurt in Spock's eyes. Sure, he's Vulcan but he's still half human and this moment gives it all away. Such a sad moment because it is obvious that he and Kirk share such a deep love and respect for one another- argue out the specifics of their relationship being platonic or romantic all you want- but it's more than evident how deeply they feel for each other.
