it's a shame they enver did make a few games of this for the saturn, they'd go for a lot of money but would be cool to see how it was changed to dc and what parts taken out.
This is the best thing i have ever seen for a 32 bit console...just think of some playstation games that were considered the best at that time like GTA...even Final Fantasy is much punier than this diamond
You got it wrong, the main character was going to be Akira Yuki from Virtua Fighter. But as the game development progressed, he later became who we know now as Ryo Hazuki.
Wow, that's really cool. Really good considering it's saturn.
I wonder how Shenmue and Sega in general would have done if it did come out on the Saturn. I think the Dreamcast and everything would have done much better.
Not bad, but Ryo's dress is too horribly simplistic, and Lan Di looked really gay (literally). Hazuki sensei looked more powerful and not like the forgettable old weakling he was in the Dreamcast version.
the lighting in some areas and the enviroments in general are stunning for what it was running on. Sega should have been pimping this video when the Saturn was still vaguely alive tho!
so would of Shenmue Saturn Continued on into shenmue 2, Shenmue had 7 rough draughs including the Saturn till the final version. just look up shenmue beta and you will see the bike, and if you look carefully some bars are in diffrent places from the final version, ill tell you this the YOU ARCARDE WENT THROUGH 15 CHANGES BEFORE THE FINAL RELEASE.
In a couple shots, I actually thought the backgrounds looked nearly as good as the Dreamcast version. And they weren't prerendered backgrounds like so many of Playstation's best-looking games.
I'm glad that Shenmue came out on the Dreamcast. It would be cool to play Shenmue on the Saturn (which is my favorite system). As for Saturn being better then PSX. Check out Virtua Fighter 2. That game rocked on the saturn. Now if there were only a save feature on Ghen War!
I think this footage proves without a shadow of a doubt that the Saturn was more powerful than the Playstation. What a shame Sega made a console that in Yu Suzuki's own words, only one in 100 developers could get the most out of. The thing was so difficult to program it made the games look worse than an inferior machine. Oh well, chalk that up as another of those Sega "could have beens".
this has nothing to do with the game but, yesterday I found out I got a japanese Sega Saturn from Japan with a controller for just $2.00, it was from a discount store that sells used games and used music in japan, anyways the graphics for this game are better looking then IMO any Saturn game, most of the PS1 games, and some of the N64 games, I bet if they released this and Sonic X-Treme, the Saturn would've lasted longer in the US (probably just before the dreamcast luanch)
If this and Sonic X-Treme would've been released, I predict the Saturn would've had an N64-style following. Sonic X-Treme would've been the Saturn's Super Mario 64, and Shenmue would've been its Ocarina of Time, for sure.
This assumes Sonic Xtreme would actually turn out to be a good game. The Bug! style engine gameplay just didn't suit Sonic well, just like 3D Blast was a departure from the norm and was terrible.
I was extremely surprised when I unblocked the video on Shenmue II on the DC. By that time I still didn't have access to the internet or anything and i was like o_o what the...!? It's so much better than most psx games. I wonder how much they suffered to get something as good as this on a Saturn.
Amazing. Its incredible that all of shenmue 1 and 2 were pretty much ready for saturn release. if this had come out on saturn (which i guess would have been ariund 97/98) it would have sent shockwaves through the gaming industry.
no, who knows how long this was being devolped, but it was thhe fursy system that might have been able to handle it, but this would have been a great gamne on the saturn
wow, that means when they made the transfer to dreamcast, they extended the story

Those graphics really are impressive, I had no idea a 32 bit system could display faces so detailed.

Good point, i only noticed it now that X-treme (The Saturn version) Did have a similarity with Bug!, but they didn't use the Bug engine to make it.
