Biggest mistake cameraman made was first, not getting clear shot of Taxi Medallion Number, secondly, after video footage was finished, not calling 911 reporting Bloomingdale Employees pummeling a person on public sidewalk…That would have open a can of worms for investigation via 911 recordings …Cab Driver and Medallion Holder now in adhesion to incident and assumes liability to event if person sustained injury.

Security won't go after someone unless they have proof of shoplifting. That means the act is caught on camera. The agents where I work always tell me how they had to "let someone go" because they couldn't get it on camera, even though they KNEW stealing had taken place.

As for the shoplifters yellign that it hurts, I can't breathe, and whatever, what better way to disorient the agents and make ignorant pricks side with the shoplifter? lol.

Store security can stop and detain (with physical force and handcuffs) a shoplifter until law enforcement arrives. This has been standard protocol for decades.

They do so legitimately, the do so to prevent people doing justice from themselves. If you go on private property, steal, and get caught, the owner of that property has every right to take you in to custody until the police arrive. LPOs can use force to hold you there. A lot of LPs don't do it because it's against some company policies, but it is not against the law. Some LPOs are trained to do this by the company. The handcuffs they use are issued to them by the compony.

A few months ago a man was choked to death by a CVS employee for stealing a tube of toothpaste. Back in June, a deaf man was choked and hurt by security guards at a XXL store in Holywood after he walked out the door and set the alarm off. He couldn't hear the alarm and he was tackled and choked. His friend, who was also deaf, desperately tried to show them the reciepts and communicate to them but they kept brushing him aside. This is a growing trend that must be stopped.
