My gp is very easy on plugs,points and oil.
Your timings out if your eating them away at that rate.Also ,you'll hole the piston before long,beleive me i love the gp's and have 3 of them and they get really upset about points gap etc.
Mines a crude way.but i simply fold a rizla paper and pop it in the points and set it so it (JUST) slackens off on the timing mark.Just done 18k in 3 years on mine without a single sneeze.
