@MrMFHORN Barbara Streisand had a nose lift because as you age your nose droops too LOL And your ears never stop growing, awful isn't it? Davy remained the best looking of all of them, and for his age, what a personality and performer.
stupid neg comments, even for the monkees, and all they did is bring positive, but there will always be shitheads lookin at the glass half empty, why dont you dipshits go end it all?
@knight1768 - Just because you don't agree with what someone said about something you love is no reason to tell anyone to "end it all". That's just rude & immature.
dont matter who wrote what?i was 6 years old in 66,and i know davey jones sang his own stuff, and brought smiles and chuckles to millions from the show, watched it everyday after school, then batman, anyway ya guys or 1 of you?see this?think you were always awesome, and still are.thanx for getting alot of people happy, that may not have been if it wasent for you?you werent joplin or hendrix, but ya never tried to be,was for the kids, guys yur awesome
@knight1768 The obsession with who played what... so pointless.. they got top notch musicians to play some great tracks. When they got creative control they played on one or two albums then got their own session guys. What's the difference really. Billy Preston, Leon Russel, Neil Young, and a host of others played on Monkees records AND Beatles and Stones records. Kudos to those who played on their own but the SONGS WERE REAL!!! And we loved them!
@THEbchat It just could be that Michael Nesmith inherited that $50 mil estate from his mother, the inventor of liquid paper... He probably didn't feel he needed anyone else...and the monkees were never really a cohesive group. Most of the big hits, if not all were actually performed by studio musicians and there might be one or two monkees recording at any time. I loved their music...wish they had been more of a real group. Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart wrote a lot of their hits.
@TheCayJays - Boyce & Hart may have written most of their more popular songs, but overall, I prefer the songs they wrote themselves.
The Monkees were a real group of performers/musicians. It's not like they were the only music act back then or even present-day to use studio musicians, and when they performed live, they played their own instruments on stage. The only thing that kept The Monkees from being perceived & treated as a "real group" was producer Don Kirshner.
@THEbchat in many ways... the monkees, particularly Nesmith, kind of made as much of the instruments issue as their worst critics. It's such a non-issue!!! Did Marvin Gaye play his own instruments? The Beach Boys didn't on their biggest hits like Good Vibrations or California Girls. Davy Jones made a good point.. did Paul McCartney play french horn on Penny Lane? Of course not.. it was all an obsession over "authenticity".. who had more armpit hair than the other!!!
@VauntedVizios - Let me 1st say: if I wasn't fan of the Monkees, I wouldn't be here.
By "real group" I mean how they were perceived by critics & other bands of the time. The Monkees are no different than Elvis, Madonna, Michael Jackson or any other number of pop stars who all used studio musicians to record albums, and I don't care that the Monkees did that. At the end of the day, the fans were left with tons of great music, regardless of how it was made.
What's Nesmith's problem? Why is he never involved in the reunions? Not that I feel as if The Monkees can't get along without him, because, as anyone can see in this video, they get along just fine as is.
@percabethtogether They are wonderful. In their late 60's & still performing. That's great to me. Too young to see them as a teen, saw them in 1986 @ Orange County Fairgrounds,NY w/ my 4 y/o daughter on my shoulders. Huge thrill !!! GOD BLESS them & keep them safe.
@bd9598 McCartney is good at hiding it.. age was getting to him as well.. but I concur.. saw him in July 2010 and more than 2 hours into the show he's ROCKING Helter Skelter. The man loves the stage.. the years melted away. They don't have to hide their age.. they're giving the best they've got .. too bad those years from 1970 to 1986 were allowed to pass due to trivial and business matters.
@percabethtogether They are in their 60's give them a break! I am happy to see them perform again for the fine memories of when I was younger and something that I loved. Enjoy don't judge.
I went to a Monkees Reunion in Vegas and one of the woman that I went with, went into labor before the show. She refused to go to a hospital, before meeting Davy. I ran up to a stage door and told them this. He came out to the lobby, held her hand, until 911 got there and maybe her first born son was supposed to be named after her husband but he was named David. Her husband didn't mind either, for that was the man that held his wife's hand and he has always been grateful to David Jones.
When i was 15 in 1986 i was in a bad accident that left me in the hospital for the whole summer. The monkeys where all over MTv in a weird way they got me threw it. Watched there shows day and night. It was awsome
@RobTV2 They would have come to visit you. I know it. I was sick and in a semi coma and every time I sort of came to, I said, "Can't get next to you". My mother had no idea what I saying, until my best friend told her, it was a Temptations song. Years later when that story was told to one of the Temptations, I was brought upon stage, during a concert, for this song to be sung to me.
They didn't all sing it, David did. It wouldn't have worked if one of the others had sang it. You wouldn't want David singing I'm A Believer you'd want Mickey.
The crowd tells the story. This was a total love in, and I think everyone was made better by participating in it. Thats cool. Thats love. Thats exactly what we need a lot more of in this world right now. Peace all!!!
@rolesvill I normally don't respond to vulgarity because it's a waste of my time but what did the 80's ever do to you? I'm entitled to like whom ever and what ever I wish. I don't appreciate the profanity how ever small it makes you look on a comment board! Really? Grow up please!
i LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!! GREW UP ON YOU. i TURN 52 NEXT WEEK AND I LOVE YOU ALL AND ALL THE LYRICS, HUMOR, AND SENTIMENT OF THOSE TIMES. GOD BLESS YOU FOR MAKING ME WHO I AM--- YOU AND THE BEACH BOYS!!!!!!!!!! KISSES!!!!!!!!
I literally remember in the early 80's sitting on the phone for 48 hours straight trying to win tickets on the radio for one of their concerts here in Detroit. Either I wasn't the right caller or i heard beep beep beep beep......I would LOVE to see them still. I would race home to try and beat my brother from school. if I made it first it was the Brady Bunch and the possibility of seeing Davey jones other wise it was ULTRA MAN. I hated those afternoons!
@rolesvill Man who pissed in your Wheaties... I had thought this was the response of some punk kid then I saw your pushing 60. What you preferred the disco 70s maybe? Seems some people never truly mature.
