  • that was really clean for a triple-back dismount!

  • Is that the same woman who does commentating for British broadcasts today? The NBC folks could learn a thing or two from her!

  • @cam2540 Yes, it is.

  • Her dads hot(;

  • @daboss1221 Um, no.

  • Is he short or is the other guy REALLY tall?

  • @91andRWforever He's reeeeeaaaally short. Nastia was 5'3" in Beijing and she was taller.

  • @91andRWforever valeri's only like 5'2

  • Aww he is so small!

  • he looks buff for a regular guy, but he looks so small for a gymnast. but damn, does he have power.

  • wow.. the british commentator, christine still, certainly has been commentating for a long time.. from 1993 till 2009 worlds..! not sure if she has been commenting b4 this..

  • Lol, that's Evgeny Marchenko. I think he's a really great coach, and he seemed so nice, when he coached Carly Patterson

  • like father like daughter :)

  • nastia had already born here? =)

  • no in her official website says she was born in russia

  • I meant if she had already born in this year, 1991, on witch valeri is competing in this video. xD

but thanks anyway. I've already google it and I saw she borned in 1989. :)

  • Yes, this is the 1993 worlds, nastia is born in 1989

  • Yep, she was 4 ^_^

  • Interesting to see Evgeny Marchenko as Valeri's "coach" here, lol.

It's sort-of fascinating to me that ex-male gymnasts can go on to coach women's gymnastics at a high level. I mean, Valeri grew up with the high bar, pommel horse, still rings etc. - not uneven bars, beam, etc.. I would think that coaching women's vault is a little different than coaching men's vault (well, not so much today - since they all use the same "table"), & coaching uneven bars is different than coaching high bar.

  • Well when you're a gymnast for so long you're kind of immersed in all forms of gymnastics so you pick up quite a few things.

  • omg hes amazing!

  • Who is the girl commentator?? She was at the beijing games as well!

  • omgshh. I was thinkin the same thing. She's been around long.. lol.

  • nice releases but the routine had almost nothing in it

  • What's his second release move?

  • Jager full, from el-grip

  • Thanks!

  • Oh my gosh, Valeri's power and technique kick so much ass.

  • @AndrewTraceur sounds like you have a serious case of the gays

  • @jacksoness2 It sounds like I have a serious case of respect for a fellow athlete.

  • Wow. Only a 9.275?

  • Why did he receive a 9.275?

  • @wht1t3cr4y0n - his score was probably low b/c while his routine *looks* difficult enough, the Code of Points had probably progressed to the point where his routine didn't have enough "stuff" to get a high score. He probably didn't change his routine or "upgrade" much from 1991 - so when the Code of Points changed again in 1993, his routine was missing the skills that the 1993 COP was highly rewarding.

  • They moved in like 1992 so this is 1993... hmm...

  • He went back representing Kazakhstan for Asian games 1994. I guess that the tall guy is Paterson's Coach

  • I think it's the Soviet Union... I'm not sure though

  • wow, first tie i've ever seen Valeri, do the high bar. Awesome

  • Triple back FTW! Gymnasts need to do more of that stuff these days!

  • never mind,

i mean that they have more harder skills like double back relsease moves and stuff. not the way the bar is.

  • wow, he was awesome!

  • There gotta be a mistake, but maybe he went back to perform. He moved to the States in 92-dissolution of the USSR. If you notice he is performing for KZH--Kazakhstan (an independent country by Dec 16th of 1991).

He was born on Dec. 17, 1966 and Nastia was born on Oct. 30, 1989. He was only 22 and her mom was 19.

  • @malishkaT - he probably trained in the U.S., but still represented his home country of Kazakhstan @ competitions. A lot of athletes live & train in different countries than the one they're representing. You see this in figure skating a lot - for ex., the top Japanese skaters are training in the U.S. & Canada. Svetlana Boginskaya trained in the U.S. (w/ Karolyi) a lot while competing for Belarus.

  • That is true, but not back in 1993.

  • @malishkaT

what are you talking about you ignorant cow? stfu

  • Yes, it was true back in 1993.

  • @malishkaT omg lol nastia was an accident.

jk but it's funny to think about it that way.

  • I was completely distracted with my flag in the background. He is good, but my flag looks better!

  • umm.

today's bars are a lot harder than from way back when. no offence.

  • @backflipgymnast - today's high-bar may be more difficult, but the routines of old (like this one) are often prettier to watch, b/c gymnasts didn't have to cram their routines full of skills to get their "start values" up. Often when gymnasts have to cram their routines full of skills - it takes away from the beauty, & their form & execution suffers, too.

  • dang i love this routine from him

  • Jaeger with a full! I loove that skill.

  • can you tellme what was the dismount?? triple or quad??

  • it was triple.

  • 9.275 i think it was a low score i think that should have been in the 9.7 or 8

  • what was the score?

  • 1993??

  • his giant swings look almost exactly the same as nastia's!

  • your right he does.

  • easy tight
