The reason we are still in Afghanistan is because politicians are to afraid to get blamed if we were to get attacked after withdrawal, even if it were by Somalians. The opposing party would use that forever against them, as political ammunition.
Btw: WTF! Cenk doesn't know about post-traumatic stress syndrome? A lot of soldiers get that! People should know the psycolagical consequences of war.
i don't think the movie was suppose to be based on the political aspect of the war. i don't think the movie was suppose to be based on the war at all. i don't like this review at all. he didn't review the movie, instead he reviews on random political issues.
I was at first thinking "this could be a really good movie", but then after he'd talked about the story it does seem like it's just going to be flimsy... I might watch it, but I do get really annoyed when a movie with potential doesn't live up to it.
On to the political... Man. This is why I'm a pacifist. War is so expensive. Until the day we have robot soldiers, it's going to be insanely costly. And even when we have robot soldiers, look at the drones. Civilians die. It's just a tragic mess.
Film review turned political message. This wasn't that cleverly done TYT. I agree fully with the message, but still..
Besides that: We (europeans) had allready discovered PTSD after world war 1. To bad you guys were to busy being to full of yourselves or you would have learned the lesson way before the Vietnam war and could have taken countermeassures.
Besides that: Wars are horrible. They destroy way more people than they kill.
Agreed! It seems he criticizes the movie for not supporting his views enough, for not being anti-war enough, etc. Weird way to look at things...who says it WAS an anti-war movie, exactly?
Let me start by saying: Looking at the review once more, i realize that Hollywood have bought this movie from a danish producer.
It sorta is an anti war movie, but the focus isn't on numbers and if the Afghan war is a worthy cause. It doesn't matter to the movie. It tells a story of some of the costs of going to war, for soldiers and family members.
My beef with the TYT/Kim review is that they left the movie to promote their political message. It's more of a propaganda show than a review.
@jo05dk With Kim's reviews, they seem to go in that direction. And that's when he's NOT reviewing a politically motivated movie. When he is, watch out!
I really liked Jarheads, how the main character thought it'd be like Team America then he got over there and it was horrible, it was really subtle and worked nice.
i fucking hate republicans i mean they also say global warming doesnt exit makes u wonder if PTSD exists then doesnt that mean that global warming have to exist
I think Jonathan Kim's review is misguided. This movie was not intended to be a cinematic treatise on how unjustifiable the Afghanistan campaign is. It was meant to show how war can rip a family asunder by traumatizing the soldier, and his family. If "Brothers" gave a detailed exposition for all the things wrong about our recent military exploits it would come across as too didactic and wooden, the way Lions for Lambs did. This film moves the heart, and it should be lauded for that.
I had the same feeling when I watched his review. It was the second review I've seen for this movie and the first one was very positive. That was because the first reviewer did not see the movie as an anti-war movie.
jonathan kim is one boring boring boring guy.

a good movie is NEVER didactic...

The brother didn't even get any of Natalie's Portman? Dang... in the Bible, a man is supposed to take in the widow of his brother.
I knew plenty of Vietnam vets - there were some pretty screwed-up cases among them.

Actually This is a BLATANT RIPOFF from the 2004 film "Broedere" WITH THE EXACT SAME PLOT!
GormTheElder 2 years ago
No need for shouting Gorm.
It's not a rip off. The movie was sold to Hollywood. It happens from time to time.

Have it your way. It's another stupid remake! I hope they don't do to this what they did to "ringu".
