Saying a certain prayer will not make somebody a Christian (saying it with a "pure heart" is rather impossible anyway.) By grace we have been saved, not by works (e.g. saying the prayer with a pure enough heart.) Also, faith without works is dead. Keep living in sin, bear no fruit, turn away: maybe it wasn't real, after all. It's hard to judge from the outside, sure enough.

Having been a Christian for many years, the argument "christianity is not a religion" is not new to me, and is one I was happy to use then. But deep down I knew the phrase; "christianity is not a religion but a relationship with Christ" was nothing more than a neat catchphrase with no real meaning.
