  • i did this in science class once

  • i think they are missing "meth" in the middle of crystal nd growing

  • its the stuff used in hand warmers

  • Sodium acetate is Na(C2H3O2) right?

  • whats princess diana doing on his show

  • @superman1113215 OMG NO WAY!

  • is it edible

  • @TheGoku1419Z no lol.

  • Wait this is the trick of instant ice!!

  • Actually it is freezing it just has a much higher freezing point :P (im 13 btw)

  • thank you for uploading this video, it has really helped me to collect some knowledge from this video, i just want to ask you how can i grow crystals on rocks with monoammonium phosphate successfully because it fails... :-.

  • go to 0:41 and look at steave

  • this is what Kids should be doing as science Projects not cliche Volcanos and how fire burns

  • Cool, the human race has finally found how to turn drugs, into something useful and fun

  • Did you know that sodium acetate tastes like salt & vinegar potato chips? That's because it's the chemical used to flavor those chips. Not to mention that the molecule itself is essentially salt (sodium) and vinegar (acetic acid, acetate)

  • that doesn't look like a crystal.....

  • i love how you do this stuff!

  • how does steve spangler not have a TV show

  • @xllCHAOSllx subscribe to The Spangler Effect channel on YouTube. Starting February 1st we will be launching weekly episodes. You can watch the trailer right now.

    Enjoy!

  • @xllCHAOSllx i think they does

  • @xllCHAOSllx he's to epic to have one

  • When I think of crystal, I think of methamphetamine.

  • i love how the lady pretends she knows wat he's talking about!

  • you can do this with copper acetate too. and the best part about copper acetate is that you can make it with vinegar, pennies and a microwave (and hydrogen peroxide).

  • Gypsy ice!

  • how do u make it?

  • Can you buy this in the uk

  • Who dislikes this?! Someone here failed science

  • i wonder what happens if you try to hold it

  • why does the process of crystallization gives off heat?

  • you can rich

  • could u eat it

  • i done this 50 times or so at home its awesome i made sculptures out of this stuff so awesome

  • how do i ALWAYS end up on thease?

  • could you do this with regular table salt?

  • how do you make it step by step

  • ive seen that before except it was in a gel pack thingy an you had to snap a little thing in the gel pack and it would turn into that stuff

  • Whats in the glass

  • Are you able to eat it

  • isn't true i get u

  • how am i here right now went from laser pointers to this

  • So what if you took those crystals and put it in the ocean?

  • can this bee done if it has me th after it

this has been a win by me

  • Could I Buy The Stuff For This At Like A Wal Mart Or Something?

  • @Oreobun3900 Hey, you can buy it on our site check out:

    SteveSpanglerScience . com

search, "Instant Hot Ice". Good luck!

  • @Stevespanglerscience if i live in france ???

  • @Oreobun3900 you can get it out of hand warmers just simply the pouch open and there will be a bag with a clear solution get some regular sodium acetate and take a crystal and drop it in and theres your crystals

  • @Oreobun3900 lol you me crackin up when you wal mart or somthing...lol

  • @Oreobun3900 Yes, you can buy it from Walmart :)

  • Will it burn you if you touch it?

  • is that just salt if not where do you get that from?

  • " Isn't that just amazing?"

  • We did this in school

  • We did this in school

  • Why isn't this guy my science teacher D:

  • Its Sodium Acetate Trihydrate. You can get it on Ebay

  • Yes, ik im growing :')

  • you could also get a hand warmer out of sodium acidate and iron oxide, which releases more oxygen to cause warmth.

  • can you please tell me what the ingredients are for this its really cool

  • you put those in coffee? me and my friends would eat those like they were lolipops as kids

  • coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • press 6,2 times per sec :P

  • @ftsntlkks i dont get it....o.o

  • @Stevespanglerscience so are the crystals salt or what? Please answer

  • i was at a mall and they were selling packs filled with that stuff and it actually became warm!!!

  • i am in 7th grade i am going to make this for the science fair project due this november! i hope it turns out right!

  • hot ice

  • Is it safe to touch

  • @3kidpower It is a mild skin irritant, but is relatively safe (as far as chemicals go). Just wash your hands with soap if you touch it and you should be fine. Here's a link to the msds (safety sheet), in case you want to read more about it. :3

  • wait, so what do i need?

  • scientist is a better host then the host

  • OMG! i did this for my science project and im in 8th grade :D

  • 2:18 =O

  • so basically it is what people call Hot Ice

  • You talk fast ~_~

  • Put your hands around it... it's nice and warm.

  • @MrCokBuster Lmao

  • @MrCokBuster so what she said.

  • my school doesnt have a science fair too bad i cant do these

  • its also called hot ice being the fact that u heat up the liquid then cool it slightly and touch it it with the sodium acetate

  • I'm going to do this for my science project Thanks!

  • I know this is a dumb question, but since we're 70% water, could we crystalize?? I mean, it shouldn't happen, but if there's enough around a person could that happen?

  • @1selenagomezfan2001 SteveSpanglerScience . com has almost all of the things he talks about in his videos.

  • Steve, you are my hero. I'm a Science ADDICT

  • I feel so smart cause I knew about saturated and super saturated solutions before watching this :D

  • how u make it that super saturated?!?!

  • gonna try it. can i make the experiment only on a glass? or only on a science laboratory apparatus?

  • how long does it last?

  • my grandma told me that the puprle sugarcristal was candy it was nasty!!!!!!! NEVER TRY IT IS NASTY!!!

  • did you say holy frig?

  • Wowzers...

  • I try that. Didn't work.:(

    LIERS!…

  • Hey Steve y didn't the glass break when it froze?

  • @Livelavalive274

because the pressure wasn't big enough

  • @Livelavalive274 i didn't freeze it crystalized

  • Can you touch the crystal you made? plz send back

  • 0:23 "Holy frick that's a lot of sugar."

  • I went to the hospital and they gave me heel warmers for my ear, anyway they're sodium acetate and I had one right in front of me lol

  • my science teacher did that first experiment on the 1st day!

  • Dude its prety much dry ice witch yuo can buy at the market

  • i <3 steve spangle too

  • You guys can buy this stuff online and you put it in a pot with water on the stove and heat until you cannot see the sodium accitate anymore. Then you can poor it in a cup . Cool it for 30-40 minutes in the fridge (not freezer) take it out and poor it!!

  • steve spangler could kick bill nyes ass hahahaha

  • is that the same as hot ice?

  • Its growing and it keeps on growing. xD

    sorry for being dirty minded

  • cool...

  • iz it eatable???

  • what i need to do that?????

  • instant ice!

  • This is too cool! Thankyou so much. I'm in 5th grade dyeing to search for something! ONE MILLION THANKYOUS! AND MANY MORE!

  • 1:31 the person almost drop the glass XD

  • at 2:02 he say" moms like me" lol

  • hi im in 5th grade and my science fair project is due on march wensday the 16th so i was wondering if you could tell me how to get the things for this experiment so can try to figure out how this project works fully and understand it all at the same time if this project will take more times than wensday the 16th could you teell me about any other projects i could do?

  • @laylatides check out

    SteveSpanglerScience . com/experiments

We have hundreds of free ideas on there! Good luck with your science fair!

  • @Stevespanglerscience okay thanks!

  • @Stevespanglerscience what is that water you holding on 0:56?

  • @Stevespanglerscience omg im in 8th i won 1st place thxx so muuuuuuuch

  • @juggalettetillidie1 that's great! Congratulations!

  • @Stevespanglerscience im in 7th grade and our science fairs r retarted just lik the rest of the stuff i schools do differently

  • @Stevespanglerscience It look like hot ice...

  • @juggalettetillidie1 cool congrats

  • @juggalettetillidie1 lucky i dont even have science fairs :(

  • @laylatides I hope your project went well! ^^

  • in the jaar is only water . ? :O

  • Does the Hot Ice melt?

  • i did that on my science fair

  • is this hot ice?

  • What were the ingredients, I seriously need help, science fair in a couple of DAYS!!! March 3rd, 2011 6:00 P.M. is when we need to get there, 7:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. is when the Science Fair begins, HELP ME!!!!!

  • i made that rock candy stuff wih sugar, a peice of string, and water with some food coloring and i put the water and food coloring in a small plastic cup, then put some sugar on the string, and in the water, then put the string in the water, and bent a paper clip and tied the string on it so the string would not fall in, the waited a couple of weeks..and ta da! rock candy!! :)

  • Can anyone tell me what the materials are?

  • hey steve do you know any cool experiment about electro magnetics or about balloon transportation... btw.. cool experiment...

  • this happens to my reusable handwarmer!! coolio!

  • That's awesomesauce!

  • You only nead the stuf and a bottle you don't nead the extra cristles you can touch it too

  • space age crystal.

  • i saw some episode is say the liquid nitrogen with some piece. what is that ? like a membrane.

  • "isnt that just amazing / gorgeous?"

  • Damn

    HOT ICE

  • thank you so much you helped me with my high school science project i got the 1st place ribon

  • XDDDDD omfg that lady just called all kids crackheads when steve says "kid think of these kinds of crystals here"at 0:10 then look at the lady shes like "sssuuuurrrrreeeeeee" lmao

  • lets put it in the ocean xD :3

  • @danny77666 bad BAD idea

  • help help help whats the intro song

  • @jimmyxrl823 it's a royalty free audio track that comes with the purchase of every Mac!

  • @Stevespanglerscience please reply will you try and make a video of your giant orbs in a jar i want to buy them but i want to see how big and strong they are first before buying them

  • @CassidyMcComb2010 we are working on it!

  • SUBSCRIBED!!! You are awesome

  • Could someone explain the difference between sodium acetate trihydrate and sodium acetate dihydrate?

  • @endlessman1 dihydrate contains 2 molecules of water and trihydrate contains 3 molecules of water (di=2 tri=3 (that's why it is Carbon DIoxide(CO2)))

  • Yay hot ice!

  • does anyone know what the music is?

  • @Starfox384 it's a royalty free audio track that comes with the purchase of every Mac!

  • so, is that salt and salt water?? i don't understand?!

  • that's like hot ice.

  • is it a polymer

  • thats amazing i was dreaming about a yellow egg shaped crystal seed and when i put it in water it started growing and it was beutifull and im reall impressed about nature(thank u nature)

  • so salt mixed with water and then salt again

  • this guy talks too much, and wont let others speak.

  • great idears this week steve ahahahahahhaha

  • Can't you make this with vinegar and bicarbonate of soda?

  • That was sooo cool

  • wow

  • @RandomAldoPipson oh wow that would look cool and take a long time

  • @RandomAldoPipson yea will it like turn the whole ocean white?? IM SOO CURIOUS now!

  • I wish he was my science teacher

  • sodium acetate is salt?

  • @BooyaaPwned no sodium acetate is a salt or ground up crystals or metals.

  • @BooyaaPwned no

  • wow
