And as our two lovable, comic relief walruses succumbed to the horrific, agonizing rictus of Radiation Poisoning, our stoic, young hero whale looked upon their abject suffering and said; "It's getting dark. We better go home."
You know! FOR KIDS!!! :D
Seriously though, I didn't think about that at all as a kid, but this movie really has a bunch of strange non sequiturs. It might be the effect of the English dubbing, but still, it's kind of odd.
@SilverVulpine: I think in the original Danish version he does say something like "We'd better get back to the others." in the same fashion, so the non sequiteurs are intended.
YES! this confirms it. I saw this movie only once about 12 years ago, but only a few parts. I remember this part where the whale suffocated from the oil 'cause it haunted me for days. I was also pretty sure this movie had a scene where a whale was harpooned (not the moby dick part). hm, maybe it hasn't come up yet, or I might be thinking of a different whale movie.
@8285878984: All I can hear after that is "Jumping in your stomach makes you really full". This part of the song is apparently in English, while the rest of it is nonsense Danish scat-singing.
In the Danish version, the sea captain was voiced by Ole Ernst.

Now that there's a spill in the Gulf, i hope the real life whales can do what Samson, Sally, Samson's parents and all their friends did.
