TheJessegangsta: I just played the song for my son - he loves Johnny Cash lyrics. He asked me how old it is. I told him I first heard it in 1960 but, I made a guess for him about when it was recorded: 1958. Quite a coincidence if you are correct (and I believe you are.) I told him that it must have been lost in the mists of time because I never ever heard it on any oldies stations. Back then they played John's songs along with all other rock 'n roll songs. Yes, I am that old.

My second favorite Cash song next to 'Would you Lay with Me (In a Field of Stone).' Luv the sentiment contained within the lyrics. Luv the message about life and what's truly important. And it ain't all the stuff we collect or the money in our pockets. Johnny knew how to get social messages across without being obvious, which is one of the reasons he was so damn good !

But you must also understand that the album this is in was Johnny Cash's last album made, so in a way you kinda gotta figure he knew he was dyin, so why not tell everyone in the best way he knew how, ya know?
