  • My Dad got one for me in 1983 (it was really for him). I still have it in perfect working order! Can't believe it's almost 30 years old! Wait that means I'm 37! AAaaaaaaargh!

  • I wanted this so freakin' bad, and mom and dad wouldn't get it because I already had a Commodore, ColecoVision and Atari 2600. Spoiled?

  • "Take it anywhere just plug it in" lol

  • i remember this thing being really expensive! or course my folks ended up getting me an Atari :)

  • @MrNintendoGamer123

this sysum was released in 1983, and the 2600 was reliesed in the late 70s

  • does it play crysis?

  • Haha, I think I still got mine, dunno if it's working.

  • @DasTasche gimmie!

  • @fkgiggles no way dude :D

  • Thanks for taking the time for posting

  • /watch?v=eY7meENfmQE

  • One of the things i find slightly odd about this advert is the game system was based on vector graphics which we know during the 1980s and before we saw games like tempest, lunar-lander etc, but they advertise games made using raster graphics and yet they never released some of the best vector games in the arcades on this system... you can't call a vectored version of Pole Position "Pole Position" its just sales chat, the game is something else on here and i suppose thats all they could do.

  • actually a really fun console if you don't mind the prmitive graphics, i have an emulator for this and play it quite often here and there

  • Great system that used vector graphics, and it really worked.

  • The weird thing is, I grew up in the 80's and almost NOBODY had this awesome thing! I remember ONE rich kid having it and no one else! The price of it must have been HUGE because everyone had Atari and Colecovision, but this was WAY better because you didn't have to wait for your parents to let you have control of the TV!

  • "just plug it in".. so 'i guess it can't go anywhere.. darn

  • Fortress of Narzod was the best game for this console.

  • god I love the 80's

  • THE console for homebrew gaming!!!

  • Man, I wish my 360 came with a tv! Its 2011 why has no one doen that yet!!!???

  • Best gaming experience in the 80's, seriously.

  • My Father got me one of these when I was 12 years old back in 1982. I can remember hours on end game play! I was the only kid in our small town to own one. My friends sure liked it, I remember us all being stuck in my room for days playing on my old Vectrex. But as with all good things, everything eventually comes to an end. In mid 1993 maybe 1994 the unit died, I gave it a proper burial in my Grand Fathers basement. Granted it was archaic compared to today's systems, but it sure was a blast!

  • I'm 18 and what is this?

  • When im bored as fuck, this is my source of entertainment, no seriously the vectrex is great.

  • take it anywhere! as long as there is a plug-in 2 feet away!

  • Was this on a VCR tape or something? Idk it just kinda looks like a somewhat-bad-quality one...

  • anyone else crack up when he said high performance?

  • @MGazT shut up.

  • @MGazT no you? really? you sir, have made me fall out of my chair, laughing. thank you.

  • The cause of the failure of this system because amber monochromes was very expensive back then.

  • @JohnntJohnW atari 2600 had exists there

  • Apparently the only console to cause perminant retina damage.

  • This was such a good system...

  • wtf white lines only??

  • @danilojrchacon It was the 80's

  • commercial guy: u can take it eney where the

me: yha but it wont fit in my pocket and cant work in a car so i will use my psv( PlayStation Vita)

    commercial guy: o right

  • @h84camacho1 me reading your comment: that was pretty gay

  • This looks old for 1982 lol... seems like a 70s ad.

    May 31, 2011 2:50 am

  • @whattheheck1000 It's the 80's, hence the very 'video' look rather than film.

  • @burlearth Oh okie. I was talking about the general look of the ad. Looks very 1977-ish.

  • My goodness... atari survived and these guys didn't.... astonishing, really.

  • @hack451

Actually, Atari's name was the only thing that survived. Atari, Inc and Atari Games both pretty much went under.

  • @MrCorporalTunnel Oh, I know. Though Atari had enough recognitian (likely due to its nostalgia factor) to warrent keeping the name alive. Regardless, my comment was on how astonishingly foolish this idea was, even for its time.

  • @hack451

Yes, name recognition. I think the Vectrex was foolish because it's price point was too high when it came out. I think Atari's were selling for under 150.00 by then if I remember right. Sure, didn't get a monitor which the Vectrex had to have due it's vector graphics, but being able to hook a console to your TV was a big deal because Monitors (Even Amber Monochrome ones) were very expensive back then. The Commodore 64 had this advantage over Apple, as well.

  • Yeah you can take the stupid thing anywhere but since you still have to "plug it in" it would be like carrying an x-box around under your arm.

  • Vectrex - cards

  • ´TAKE IT ANYWHERE´ ... wonder how many kids ran round the city with a giant monitor under their arm. I love the 80s!

  • @Choppr777 Well, it did have a handle on the back, so I guess it was like lugging around a karoke machine back then lol.

  • @Choppr777 I used to walk to my friend's houses with a Vectrex under my arm. :)

  • Poor Vec, It just didn{t take off.

  • Whomever gave this thumbs down was never there to experience just how exciting this all was.

  • still have one, and it still works!

  • VHS fail

  • @Macintosh3745 lol yeah the tracking is way off, even with it adjusted perfectly, it wouldn't make much difference.

  • I WANT ONE!!!!!!

  • awesum

  • I wish this thing was done today.

  • 2 days later.... I GOT ONE YAAAAAAAY

  • I so want it

  • They forgot Turbo Express, Virtual Boy, and Game Gear. They have screens and they're portable! Just plug them in!

  • IM SELLING ONE! HAS 1 CONTROLLER, IN AUSTRALIA, WITH ITS ASTROID GAME IN IT, ONE OF THE FIRST AND BEST ASTROID GAME'S FOR $500 OR NEEREST OFFER, THEY ARE FROM THE 1980'S AND WERE SOLD AT $200 DOLLARS, THATS LIKE $600 NOW, btw they are so very very very rare!

  • is this on a really bad quality beta tape?

  • hey its Bemmo from adventure time

  • how about the "VECTREX 2" awesome right?

  • CGR really showed how awesome a concept the Vectrex was for the time.

  • Did it say 3d imager? How did it look?

  • I remember seeing one of these at a comic/Anime/sci-fi convention. And also played it for a few seconds too.

  • Vectrex Does Everything... but Cosmic Carnage.

  • Lord Carnage approves the Vectrex!

  • @communistrecords You misspelled His name. It's "Karnage," with a K. He shall now damn you to an eternity kissing His feet and complimenting Him.

  • @gp75motorsports No that is Lord Karnage's literary pseudonym. He uses it to publish his ongoing series on how awesome he is.

  • i love how they make it seems like is a portable, but you have to plug it in. ''Take it anywere! Just plug it in!'' there is no plugs to plug things in car is there now? Sillly advert.

  • @Themastercode1235 Use a LOT of extension cords.

  • Yeah I have one, had a few over the last few years, I used to find them quit often but not these days. I still like the pinball game, I have maybe 12 other boxed carts too somewhere .

  • all i want for christmas,is Vectrex!

  • I had a Vectrex. It was the first game system that I ever owned, and I loved it. Like a poster below me, I got mine from Sears Electronics. I had 6 six games I think, but I wish I had gotten more. I also wish that I had never sold the system ( I kept it for probably 5 years). It was a quality system and it never gave me any trouble at all. I`m 45 now and still a gamer.....probably always will be.

  • @pdk25 wow did come up with that your self that is well poetry

  • Now that is a system I want to get!

  • So who had a Vectrex in its early release days?

  • @Agent1W Raises hand. I had one, and I had tons of games too. We bought it, well my dad bought it in the states. I was always running to the Sears electronics department back in Canada to find more games hehe, fun times.

  • I found one in a skip once in a box. Didnt work but looked cool.

  • awesome, memories...

  • They should make more games with vector graphics

  • @CaptainCrunchityzer Surprisingly not that much, depends if you can spot them at a flee market or something, there aren't too many games, but eBay or something would have them.

    Maybe like $5-20

  • @CaptainCrunchityzer That's an awesome price.

I was incredibly desperate for mine, mostly because I just wanted it so much.

Take the trip man, It's worth it.

  • @CaptainCrunchityzer Good luck, I got mine for 90

  • A gameboy is more powerful than this thing

  • @tom11zz884 No, technically the Vectrex is kind of more powerful just because of the vector graphics...

  • Thank you Sean Kelly! The person who for originally discovered this recording and recovered ir from the old tape it was on.

  • I have one.

  • I want one.

  • @dopebozoish they are all over ebay for sale.....this is alot of fun....very very underrated........

  • @nyrangers72 Wish they were cheaper though. Saw a few for the same price as the Wii. I have an atari 2600 and got it from ebay for like $40 with a bunch of games. But the Vectrex looks amazing.

  • I bet the competitors bought them out.

  • I love this system. Played my uncle's all the time when I was a kid. Now I have three of them. Sadly, one doesn't work.

  • i just got one of these today in mint conditon and a bunch of games today it was the best 35$ i ever spent :D

  • @dustYCartridge you got a vectrex for $35? Lucky you.

  • Sooo this is the concept for a portable console xD

  • I feel so cool now, everyone wants one and I have one. And I picked it up when someone was gonna throw it out, not even knowing what it was. I just couldn't let something that cool lookin' get chucked.

  • Terrible quality, but cool video

  • @AvgnFanSite you know how old this thing is right?

  • @Shaz1194 As in the quality of the video not the console.

  • Thanks for posting this. I remember a friend of mine had this when we were kids.

  • I want a Vectrex SO BADLY!!! These things are AWESOME!

  • i want one

  • Trippy.

  • lol its a big ass tv lol

  • THIS is a rare recording!!! thanks for uploading!!! :)

  • Awesome!

  • Forget the TVs! Get into emulation, I mean Vectrex.

  • Damn overlays. I can never seem to find them

  • Take it anywhere just plug it in. What if I wanted to go to the beach. what the hell would I do then.

  • Sorry but the quality of this video sucks.

  • @narox Oh well, it's a thirty year old VHS cassette.

  • @narox Sorry, I take it back. The video is better than nothing. Still interesting.

  • I never had one, but this looks very similar to this weird console thing I played at my neighbors once and never saw again. It was pretty cool 8D

  • How much would one of these be worth today?

  • @Model1887PRO1

They're available on Ebay for around $80. Some nuts are trying to sell them for $400+

  • it has it's own screen.

  • Wow, this thing brings back some memories.

  • WE NEED MORE VECTOR GRAPHICS

  • @KellyRuleszzzz Eeh, it has a arcade-y feel to it. That's what it tried to replicate; it had it's own screen because it was a vector screen... instead of pixles, it drew lines. And that requires a special screen. So, quite unique. Plus, it might be the only game system with a built in screen (besides handhelds).

  • @legofans452 sega nomad?

  • Nomad's a handheld.

  • @itsmadoublet its a video game system

  • yeah, a handheld video game system

  • Eh. You can carry it, it has a handle. The Gamecube had a handle. But handhelds are ment to be used whilst held in your hands. This is ment to be used on a tabletop. You won't see anyone holding this and playing it at the same time.

  • mmmm.... I think you are right =S

  • @KellyRuleszzzz

What do you mean? Vectrex would rape all the technology we have today, I know because Vectrex was made with alien technology.

  • says who? 0.o

  • a friend of mine still has hes vectrex and it works perfectly even the controller. great system for its time.

  • damm Bad Quality

  • I don't think it would make a lot of difference. The graphics weren't up to much anyway.
