  • The French invented the butterfly knife design. The oldest dated evidence that supports this is a French book clearly showing a sketch of the balisong design. That book, "Le Perret", was published in 1710. they were brought to the philipines by spanish sailors and were adopted and utilized in filipino martial arts.

  • @alexselby97 Nope. The Phillipino's adopted that style of knife.

  • yeah if you say french invented it your retarded, and make yourself look dumb. Filipinos made them during war, either WWI or WWII im sure its WWII.

  • @WestPhillyBorn No, it is originally from France. The phillipino's adopted it.

  • @buttercow12

judging by how you spelled Filipino wrong, yeah you dont know what your talking about. thats how I know you didnt do enough research. french didnt make the balisong.....balisong.....balisong.......BALISONG. hmm i wonder if balisong is french.....hmmmm.....nope.....

  • @WestPhillyBorn I know i spelt it wrong. So you can assume that I dont know what i am talking about. Cool. Even cutlerylover says the Balisong is of french origin. Where is YOUR research to prove me wrong. And dont give me any wikipedia shit. because we all know that anyone can edit that.

  • @ItsThatScienceKid im fearing for the camera man

  • Comment removed

  • @ItsThatScienceKid me too.

  • did he say an old european style of knife? by european you mean filipino?

  • @pikanoob well some people say the french invented the design but the filipinos built one for real and not just as a drawing

  • @WataAtaCrackah i dont think thats right though. i mean the balisong has been around in the philippines since 800 AD and the europeans only came around the 16th century or so. and i dont think that anything made out of metal would have been produced in hte philippines before europe back then

  • @pikanoob No the balisong was made famous by the filipino. But it was invented in france in the 17th century

  • @Jijo233 Balisong have been used by Filipinos since before the 10th century. Oh and the Filipinos never made it popular. Americans did post-WW2. Some troops were stationed in the Philippines and were given some balisong as souvenirs so to speak. They brought it back and people were like "WHOA THIS IS AWESOME" and all of a sudden you see balisong becoming real popular with the young people of the time.

  • @mauiboynokaoi there is some ridiculous rumour going around about origins in france as well, it's complete bogus; they were just designs for some exotic straight razors, and the mechanism involves springs.

    overall your'e right though.

  • i like how these video tell you they're illegal in some states but they don't actually tell you which ones...

  • Ahh, the perks of living on the border of 3 states...
