The French invented the butterfly knife design. The oldest dated evidence that supports this is a French book clearly showing a sketch of the balisong design. That book, "Le Perret", was published in 1710. they were brought to the philipines by spanish sailors and were adopted and utilized in filipino martial arts.
OR you can spin it like a boss for five minutes to open an envelope in less then a second before spinning it for another five minutes and pocketing it to read your letter
@godestxxx ... Really Philopean... Filipino style not Philopean.. What the heck is a mashel art or a Philo mashel art... MARTIAL ART FILIPINO MARTIAL ART.... How old are you like 10?
judging by how you spelled Filipino wrong, yeah you dont know what your talking about. thats how I know you didnt do enough research. french didnt make the balisong.....balisong.....balisong.......BALISONG. hmm i wonder if balisong is french.....hmmmm.....nope.....
@WestPhillyBorn I know i spelt it wrong. So you can assume that I dont know what i am talking about. Cool. Even cutlerylover says the Balisong is of french origin. Where is YOUR research to prove me wrong. And dont give me any wikipedia shit. because we all know that anyone can edit that.
it would be illegal only if the young man had a knife were it is illegal if the situation were not legal where the young man found himself to use the knife in a illegal way only if he found out that it was legal for him to not use it illegally.
@WataAtaCrackah i dont think thats right though. i mean the balisong has been around in the philippines since 800 AD and the europeans only came around the 16th century or so. and i dont think that anything made out of metal would have been produced in hte philippines before europe back then
@Jijo233 Balisong have been used by Filipinos since before the 10th century. Oh and the Filipinos never made it popular. Americans did post-WW2. Some troops were stationed in the Philippines and were given some balisong as souvenirs so to speak. They brought it back and people were like "WHOA THIS IS AWESOME" and all of a sudden you see balisong becoming real popular with the young people of the time.
@mauiboynokaoi there is some ridiculous rumour going around about origins in france as well, it's complete bogus; they were just designs for some exotic straight razors, and the mechanism involves springs.
