Hey Jin this is Lucy I got into a motorcycle accident I follow all your videos I found a trainer but cant afford him yet until I go back to work but I been trying to follow your videos how can I train sitting down ? I dont want to stop I love Wing Chun It is more of a mental exercise for me Love your videos as always
@SchuzophrenicNYC I wish the UFC was like it was when it first started. I loved the Ninjitsu vs kickboxer fights. And you're right, you cant compare mma with one style.
And last... Have George st piere (gsp) or another top UFC fighter BOX a young Roy Jones Jr, or have him WRESTLE a young Dan Able, or KICK BOX A young Dennis Alexio, chances are, he will lose every event. MMA today is a mixture of 3-6 different styles that keep adding newer techniques, compared to Wing Chun that was developed to fight certain styles around the area of the time of Yim Wing Chun, that remained unchanged.
So to all the MMA tough guys who talk down on Wing Chun, 1) you take boxing strikes and foot work and head movement,2) you take wrestling take downs,3) jui jitsu ground techniques (chokes and arm/knee bars), 4) kickboxing & Muay Thai kicks, 5) and add modern day Olympic style weight lifting and cardio training to your regimen, and you have the nerve to compare all of that to ONE 300 year old style? Lmao!
I always love hearing MMA guys say, "MMA is better than Wing Chun", well, MMA stands for something, it stands for MIXED martial arts, MIXED, as in, more than one system, how can you compare MULTIPLE systems to ONE system? You cannot! That's stupid! Today's MMA fighters, do a little boxing, Jui jitsu, wrestling, kickboxing, Muay Thai & sambo. No top fighter today does just one system, even if it's just one move from A system.
Enough farting around with this MMA thing. Show some videos of you sparring these MMA guys, I want to see Wing Chun vs MMA. I've been doing boxing for over 16 years, Wing Chun for 14 years, and I also practice Muay Thai and wrestling, I was a street fighter, I know A lot about what works and what doesn't, 80% of Wing Chun is GARBAGE, it's true, now that 20% is deadly, it's the only thing Bruce Lee was practicing before he was killed, uhhh I mean before he died.
@SchizophrenicNYC It sounds like you have the perfect background to really analyze the clashing of styles. What about Wing Chun do you think is useless?
@DanHorganWingChun Well, its easier to say whats USEFUL, if i typed whats useless, it would take forever. Also, are you asking whats useless for MMA or for the streets? Classical stances in WC (like the 20% 80% stance) are uselss in MMA, you're just lunch for a wrestler. The fact that there is really no head movement is also a disadvantage, when i started wing chun, i was bobing and weaving all the time, my sifu said "no, you must keep your chin high N not move your head, rely on your technique
@DanHorganWingChun ALSO, you see A lot of sifu's teach a leg block against a kick, and while they're blocking the kick, they are also doing some type of hand strike, YEAH RIGHT! I practice against Muay Thai guys who throw some nasty kicks, you will never do a fantasy kick block and do a hand block and strike at the same time (pok da), i've seen WC guys limp after i demostrated that flaw in the WC system. thats something im not allowed to do in class, but i want my WC brothers to know the truth
@DanHorganWingChun@DanHorganWingChun wing chun was built to fight other kung fu styles, Yim wing chun was NOT taught to fight a 230 pound mike tyson who was fast as hell and hard to hit (at his prime), she was also NOT trained to defend against a wrestler like tito ortiz with awesome take downs, or royce gracie who was a wiz on the ground. so there is no way wing chun is practical in the ring, especially when you take eye jabs and groin kicks away. you have to bend the rules in wing chun
@DanHorganWingChun what i mean by 'bend',is you have to adapt to what will keep you safe, so if moving your head like a boxer while doing a pok da to avoid being hit is what you have to do, DO IT. dont say, 'hey if i slip the punch,im not doing wing chun', dont think like that. why do you think Bruce lee left wing chun? too many rules and stuff, my style is similar to jeet kune do, if i see you can box, i will take you down, if i see you want to take me down,i will sprawl and keep my distance
@DanHorganWingChun in a nutshell, learn the wrestling takedown and sprawl..learn boxing foot work and head movement and combinations, BLEND it into wing chun. learn maybe 10 bjj moves like armbar/kneebar from mount and guard, basic rear choke and guilitine choke, learn the key lock and learn how to escape the top and bottom, when you add all of that to wing chun, you are a different animal. my wing chun is designed for mma and the street because when you take me down, i become the grappler
@DanHorganWingChun bruce lee said, "be like water", same goes for fighting, adapt to what happens and be prepared. wing chun on the ground is a fish out of water. become the teapot (wrestler),become the bowl (boxer), fight YOUR fight, not his.focus on wing chun, bui jee, structure and a rooted mobile stance, work on that straight punch like Jin teaches, keep the pok da lop da and bong sao, take the opponents elbow, take and keep the centerline, stay soft, hit hard. Hope that helped. GOOD LUCK!
i have finally decided to log on my channel, i have been following your videos for about a year now and i must say im so happy to see you expand. Not only with the new facility but also with a DVD. I hope to see alot more videos and i hope your doing well. Hopefully one day i can come out and train!
@kelly980, true, but any person that primarily studies any style should train with everyone that is relevant, including MMA people. I couldn't agree more. Jin does cover a lot of that, but each environment is different and I look forward to hearing his insight as he possibly becomes more involved in those aspects. I do MMA stuff, Arnis, etc., but apply Wing Chun principals to it all (because it's all similar in principal, just different concepts are at play) and it works really well.
@papertiger7 I actually like the term "chinese boxing" better. Chunners get too caught up with the name and that leads to all kinds of controversies... think Wing Chun, Ving Tsun, Wing Tsun etc etc etc all kinds of bull****. Its like Muay Thai in the past where it used to be many different schools and styles. Ultimately, it needs to come as one complete modern style which is what Muay Thai is today. All that Chunners must come together as "Chinese Boxing" one day. WDG Jin!
'Chunners' as you call them, aren't cought up with the name, because they know it's just a diffrent kind of spelling/translation.
What Jin teaches is Wing Chun (or wichever spelling/translation you like) and so it may be called so.
It's good to have various styles. Every style has his own advantages, and if you put all styles together you get a rigid form that isn't open for improvement. Ip Man himself said that it's a style than changes with experience ;)
@markfrostbite no worries! as the Tutorial progresses, there will be aspects that we cover that may not be so familiar to the typical wing chun community, so i try to avoid all the politics by calling it Chinese Boxing or Gung Fu.
@sloppymantis to try out the class is free, but if you wanted to continue, there is a cost, i'm not even sure what it is, since it's not my gym, you can find out more information by calling the gym if you have more questions. i also do not make any money from teaching the classes, i worked it out with the owner to teach there for free, as long as i can continue to film there for the Tutorial and can teach privates there as well.
@chinaboxer You know what man? You are a very cool human being. I get very muddied up being around people who constantly think of money, but you genuinely want to help your fellow human being. I will try not to get too mushy here, but you clearly possess the traits which the chinese use the word "sifu" for.. not just the mCDonalds martial arts belt ranking status. not ground and pound or memorize 87 forms, but the kind who doesnt call himself master only others do.. and you offer a cup of tea:)

And the aspects or techniques that are not familiar....Be my guest :)
The more i learn, the better it is !
I'm not a typical one style person....
I practiced Karate, Xanda/Sanda and Xia Quan Gung Fu before i started Wing Chun/Chinese Boxing.
So when sparring i sometimes mix up techniques altough i prefer Wing Chun/Chinese Boxing :)
