haha! My Irish uncle fishes the same way when our family is up in Maine(USA). He laughs at me using my modern rod-reel. But thanks to him and guys like you keeping the old traditions alive I have made a few hooks from deer antler over the winter and am making my own fishing pole out of a large wild rose shoot. I'd never seen someone run the line through the Y at the end of a stick before. Nice vid. I'll check out the website. I'm new to youtube.com I've been studying bushcraft pretty much my whole life. I grew up outdoors. I'm blessed to live in the US where I can hunt and fish on millions of square kilometers of State and Federal lands. A quite large National Forest is less than a half hour drive from my urban home. Thanks for your simply made but informative videos.
I like this video and any type of fishing and I have started carrying a cork with a hook wrapped by fishing line with me in my overnight bag. A rod is always in the trunk ready to go.
No fishing license in Texas? Just go to a state park. You will pay a small entry fee but the fishing in a state park is free and many will loan tackle.
I like any type of fishing and I have started carrying a cork with a hook wrapped by fishing line with me in my overnight bag. A rod is always in the trunk ready to go.

@superfredc you fucking troll you couldn't get your fat ass out of your house and away from your computer long enough to go fishing or to any type of bushcraft let alone know what it means to do bushcraft so go talk you shit else where
back to basics and all this rubbish i am reading here.you lot dont seem to grasp, the fishing line was made in a factory he didnt make it out of bamboo or something..survival,bushcraft.ha ha.whatever!
If you can get a decent length of stick or bamboo, you can put eyeholes in it and make a proper rod if ye like. Make a little bobber out of a bit of wood...carve it...get creative with it. Lots of ways! :D The way I see it, if you're gonna be a woodsman, or survive, better at least make it fun as possible! haha
@kentalex Ok, thanks but we does not have lisence here in Norway just fishing cards, thats not what he tells of in the video..or have i gotten it wrong?
@Roboflux As I see it, when buying a "fishing card", you buy a temporarely lisence to that river or lake. So that the owner of the land gets a piece of the pai, and for goverment owned land it's about letting them have control over the trout/salmon population. I'm not entirely sure, my only point was, that not even in norway can we go fishing in whatever freshwater we want without a permit.
@kentalex Ok, know what you mean, its only that i have never payed for any lisence but only for a fishing card so i thaught it was strange that you have to have a lisence too =)
Most of these guys show you what to do if you already have a mono fishing line and a steel hook. Just once, I want someone to demonstrate going out into the woods with just a pocket knife and make a workable fishing outfit from only natural materials. Can it be done with minimal effort? Anyone know of any videos out there that show this?
i know hooks can be made from bone and small sticks sharpened on both ends. As far as line goes that fine of cordage would be hard to make strong i think. Any place someone else has fished there likely to be line and tackle hung up somewhere probably.
I got on a hike by a bad storm that came out of nowhere. It took the searchers 3 days to find me. I made a shelter first, fire second, and then caught fish to survive. They didnt give me a ticket or nothing, for fish without a license. They just wanted to know what kind of fish that I ate and how much. Then praised me for using my knowledge and skills to survive a 3 day rainstorm. The park ranger had me show him how to build a fire in the rain, and sustain it.
If you're in a survival situation the game warden should understand. If not...whatever country you're in needs a new set of officials. Unless of course that country is a socialist country, in that case the people should be accustomed to being taken care of like children.
like trafic cops, game wardens do not care about any problims you have, if you get caught speeding you'll get a ticket, get caught fishing in closed waters - same story, but they take your fishing gear
if you are actually in a survival situation and have not already learned how to catch fish you'll starve to death... you dont need the licence to survive but you need the licence to learn the art
i tried this before out of boredome. i took some spair line in my tackle box and put on just a hook and a little worm. i caught a perch lol:D then i threw it back. good times..
I'm very interested in the billy can you show at the end of this video and in other videos. I have looked for one similar without success here in the US and have looked at your site. You do not sell them either. Any suggestions?
ever try the soda pop can method? you wind your line around an old soda pop can, throw your bait out in the water and pay out the line by uncoiling it off of the can
Freshwater fishing requires a freshwater license. Approx 40$ in Canada. Saltwater fishing requires a separate license and costs 24$.
If caught fishing without a license in Canada, the fisheries can seize your car and your boat, including all the contents on your person, and fine you 1000$ for every fish or shellfish in your possession.
if i can afford a liscence i can afford a real fishing rod and if was hobo i'd be happy to spend some jail time for bed and hot food better then pigeons and roddents lol
In ca. if you have no liscence they ticket you and it goes on record. you cant register your car or renew d/l until you pay it. if not paid right away at a cost of $1100 now and additional for each fish you have, it triples upon day ticket is due and not paid, then goes into a bench warrant and you actually go to jail! serve 30 days, pay court costs a fine and the ticket times 3 now! i liscence about $50 but worth every penny.
@MrCemgok i am so glad that someone can be so rude explaining something to someone who doesnt know what a word means. i mean realy. do you know what a fag is in the US and what it means in the UK. you might if you live in the UK i doubt it though

Very nice making that survival stove. Normally when i see survival video's you have to buy this and that!.. but this is all made of common stuff we need everyday. The walking stick is good but i would prefer one end sharp for protection
Nice fish mate but thats quite dodgy I saw a guy get the top 1/3 of his finger taken off by fishing line that got rapped around his finger when he was bringing in a big fish by hand ouch!
I love YouTube videos like these. Reminds me of when I was a kid fishing along the Big Sand Creek in southwest Mississippi. I had a similar system for casting grubs and worms as far down the creek as I could to catch catfish, sunbream and red-eyed bass. Thanks for the video.
Amen to that Snocamo154. This gives me the flashbacks too, back to when I was a very young kid down South. You could go into many local hardware stores or fishing shops and they would have pre-rigged line, weight and hook all wound onto an "H" shaped assembly fior a day of fishing. I don't remember if they cost a dime or a quarter back then, but they were cheap. I enjoy listening to Peter also. Great video
After I would catch a few fish, I would build a fire on the sandbar and cook the fish over the flames skewered on a willow wood stick. If the blackberries or dewberries were in season, I'd have a big handful of them as dessert. Simpler and happier days back then.
