  • wheres Weird Al?

  • i wood become amish!

  • I wonder what Amish do when someone has serious health problems.like heart or kidney failure.when it needs a machine

  • Dont underestimate the Amish they prosper in their life. Im friends with a family and they are the most gentile people ever met. They mind there own business and seem friendly to everyone. They cook the best dinners I ever ate over simple stoves

  • Amish life is no doubt the greatest way to live.I grew up similar,we carried water from a spring,no indoor toilet,we grew what we ate, worked literally from sun up to sun down, farm life is by no means easy but it's the best life you could ever ask for.I kind of wish I was Amish,I don't think at my age I would miss TV or the Internet and I definitely would never miss a friggin cell phone cause I don't use one anyway.I might miss electricity though.

  • It's ridiculous to state that Ohio Amish country has "no traffic jams" when Route 39 through Sugarcreek and Berlin gets jammed up with tourists every weekend of the summer. Lancaster County, PA is even worse.

  • I am fifity and I grew up living a very hard life.

No power at times and cooking on wood heaters and such. We used oil lamps too.

I am a better person today for it. trust me if you never have it you do not miss it.

life is hard but yet simple for the amish people with simple pleasures you knoe not of . i think would make a great amish person. i even love the way they dress.

I am not religious I am Born again as a child of God.

  • @frugalnanny -Your words are so true.I would say at times when i think about things.Just how happy i really was.good people and great friends..

  • needs a MANS voice.

  • It is voluntary to say Amish. Young people are given a choice when they get to a certain age.

  • These people seem like kind, simple people.. I couldn't help but imagine what it's like to be a REBELLIOUS child born into an amish family and how difficult that would be. Because they're so old fashioned and religious I can't imagine they're too accepting of social differences.

  • No electricity but the contraptions which their horses pull in the fields for harvesting and ploughing the land are made in factories using electrical power. They sure aren't made in a local blacksmith's shop with hammer and anvil.

The life style seems idyllic but I'm not sure it really is as fulfilling as it seems.

  • Fantastic comment. :) I wanted to learn more about the amish people and it seems like living this lifestyle would be such a hassle.

  • @cleverfeller alot of them are, there are many different types of amish people and some are more hardcore than others.

  • they pay taxes, but dont get state aid???? Thats bullshit!

  • @urista88 They refuse to get any State or Federal aid of any kind. If any one is hospitalized the community helps out to pay the bills and what not this is what they wish let it be.

  • @urista88 what state aid do you thnik they get.i never did

  • @ZMAN44708 They don't get any state aide.

  • I could tell that the anouncer did not have the love and kindredness connection with the Amish. This must have been just another story for them. Generations can pass but the kindredness will never. As eternal as Christ.

  • belle bande de toto

  • I love Amish too. Sometimes I would like their simple way of life work an d worship. But... I'm English LOL

  • yeah, likewise... a simple way is probably a happy way... I farm anyway so that wouldn't be too much difference... My lass is german too!

  • do the amish vote?

  • No they do not.

  • @arsdag81 Last year they did vote.. I forgot what Issue it was but it had to do with animals....They where ask to vote, but I THINK...only the men voted.... This i know to be true because I deal with the amish all the time... We where talking about it.

  • I ♥ AMISH!

  • There is an old saying that says, "If you think you know what the Amish are all about, you're wrong." Because every group is different.

  • It was an interesting video. I work with many Amish and almost all the Amish I know have cell phones. Some have microwaves as well. They are not limited because they do not have electric. They have generators or batteries to charge their cellphones. While they do not have personal computers, they use computers for businesses. Many of the young people are finishing their education by getting there GEDs as well.

  • those are prolly plain dressing mennonites or beechy amish, etc.

  • @chippbabe wow really? I am surprized that they started too use more technology now. Are some Amish villages more old fashion then others? I am want to learn more about these people.

  • I find it interesting that several people on here have expressed an interest in joining because it seems so peaceful. But i thinking being born into it is so different. If you went from the modern world to life without electricity, I'm sure you'd change your mind in a hurry.

  • My ancestors are Amish from Ohio !

  • Must be wonderful to live the amish lifestyle. It must be very peacefull.

  • I agree 1000x

  • lol its so hilarious at how americans say illegal immigrants even though almost all people living in america are illegal immigrants =P poor indian people ='(

  • i have no problem with them, it's just a different point of view. if they are happy and don't mess with others, fantastic.

    they are ecological too

  • they hire mexicans you can see at 4:08 the guy whit red tshirt

  • They don't hire anybody. All volunteer their labor. Many outsiders participate because they want to experience building with hand tools only. And their centuries of experience of timber framing is one of the few "schools" to gain knowledge.

  • I wonder despite all the outward virtues the Amish display, are they intolerant of anyone in their midst who strays even slightly from their customs.

For example I saw a docu. on tv where one man wanted to read the Bible in English instead of German and he was ex communicated by the elders.

I hate to think what they would think of an atheist like myself.

  • Intolerant is a poor word to describe that they just want to be left alone and fellowship with those of like mind. Their lands stay in the families, so it would be impossible to own or rent if you didn't have a spiritual commoness.

  • They probably wouldn't think nothing of it, they mind their own buisiness. If they did think anything of it they would probably feel sorry for you like I do.

  • Amish Pride,

  • i love them, they are honest and decent people. if you cant give a good comments just leave them alone they dont need u anyway....

  • Actualy no body is true American White came 400 years ago indians came 5000 years ago , no body just pop on a land !

  • do these people eat meat?

  • Yes.

    Stop saying "THESE PEOPLE."

Amish is a religion, not a totally different animal.

  • at least the amish know how to speak proper english... buy YOURSELF a book!

  • Amish speak a old german language , they learn english at school .

  • i hate amish!! buy you'll kids a damn PS3 and you'll selves a nice car.

  • at least they use proper english, buy YOURSELF a book

  • Actually, they mainly speak an old form of German. But that guy is an idiot.

  • I think theyre kinda fakes! They reject paying an electric bill but they do have a lot of modern things. The farm equipment is modern so Ive no respect for that at all. I saw a video with a really nice gas stove glass ware etc in their kitchen so isnt this too modern? Seems they make exceptions when convenient for em? Do you see them spinning yarn ne more or shopping at walmart? They make a lot money off the tourist trade also & I wonder about them having to pay taxes like the rest of us?

  • They are essentially self sufficient, so no need of paying any income or sales tax. They maintain their own dirt roads and schools and have no need of EMTs and Fire Departments, hence the property taxes are almost non-existent. They take care of their own and don't accept government assistance. Inasmuch as they define what they consider modern and adhere to it, they are hardly fakes.

  • They pay income taxes, they do not pay social security taxes. They also pay property taxes.

  • I think amish way of life is very interesting. They seem very peaceful and privat people. They live with nature and they respect the enviroment. I think they deserve to be respected by other people.

  • sounds wonderful hard work but look at the peace they have it must be wonderful

  • I would like to ask the Amish to come to AK and share the old simple way of life there are no Amish in AK and would love to live that life . Simple and clean . No tv no cell phones . CARS ETC> I believe we are all starting to get the point aboun living in balance with your environment.I want to spend my entire day busy preparing for the next?

  • I enjoyed this. Someday I'd like to spend a week with an Amish family and learn some of their skills. I think trading technology for peace and joy would be a fine thing.

  • The Amish have the right attitude.

  • makes you wonder in this day n age with the recession and crimes everywhere, shootings at schools and this latest one at a resthome perhaps the Amish way of living is NOT as bad as we think it is

  • I don't know if I could ever live like that, but I have an enormous amount of respect for the Amish

  • omg theyre so sweet and hard working. good for them!

  • VIva La amish!!

  • Hard working humble people living the simple way, we could learn so much from their example.

  • very true.)))))))))))))))))))

  • What is true? You're an Amish or you hand milk the cows or you ride in horse drawn Carriages or you date Amish Guys. I once milked Amish Cows. I thought I did in PA. I did in Iowa. I was a student then. The school arranged a visit to the farm. I stayed a weekend in their home.

  • They are hard working peoples!

  • amish people kick ass

  • Pause at 0:53....

    CHEATERS!

  • Why you say that? all of their equipmetn is horse drawn and opperated for farming.

  • good thing they use hydrolics to help them bail hay...it would stink if you had to bail it by hand...well i guess if you had enough ppl to help like your hole community it wouldn't be so bad doing it by hand

  • Very good video, thank you. I have no idea why they like that life but I respect it.

  • I'd go if they would let me have my computer, car, television, cell phone, CD player, DVD play, microwave, lamps, mixer, blow dryer, can opener, regriderater, oven, ... oh, forget it.

  • Nice places

  • SIGN ME UP!

  • Amish are not the consumers the corporations love to milk for profits. Hard to enslave these folks their life style makes them hard to own. They refuse to follow the advertising models only way to own them is through legislation. In hard times that are coming they represent a model that has been in our mist for years. If we will emulate some of their independence we can become the America we were in the past.If not , stay the corporate, government, advertisement motivated stooges we have become.

  • They may say this is the simple life, but their way of doing things is actually a lot more work. My Grandmother used to say that the best thing about "the good old days" is that they are gone.

  • the amish kick ass i want to join

  • Are they Christians or Judaists? Ah...wish they were Orthodox Christians.

  • "No Electricity, No Cars, No Photographs; the Amish have chosen the Simple Life" Simple that is in nature but not in work. I am a country boy that moved to the city worked my way up a ladder in college and work...then realized life was too complicated this way. Lacks meaning. The simple life of the Amish is very inviting to me but I will contend to live simple from now on, on my own.

  • I believe it is possible to live a "simple" life without getting religious and shy electronics :)

  • on behave of my well being i would like to donate my john deer tractor to this amish society in ohio. i think you guys are great what you do.

  • I hauled ice with my father to the Amish for many years, and I must say that the Amish are good people. They live simple lives and I admire that. I live in Millersburg myself and I recommend it to anyone looking for a simpler place to live.

  • WOW!! Could you imagine living in such a peaceful environment?? That would be wonderful!!!

  • i could imagine that! Live with them. A calm life

  • yes the amish do pay road and public school taxes thanks u very much !!

  • what i dont get is why people love the amish but hate mormons who are also very nice people with strong moral values that are taught by their church, though they dont live without modern technology but thats not what makes the amish a great people

  • I really really want to join the church! I'm still young and probably will. I'm very determined.

  • We should all learn from the Amish, My Wife wants to move into an Amish community. I am thinking real hard about that. We live in Pa. There are Amish all over. Nice people.

  • Simply beautiful, wonderful and insiring people.

  • I bet many Americans wish they knew how to live like the Amish now that the economy is so bad.

  • I am, as a modern American, very, very proud of the Amish!

  • This was a great video. Thanks for posting it. I enjoy reading books that take place with the Amish. At times it seems like such a nice and relaxing way of life away from all the problems in the world. It also amazes me at how dedicated they are in doing what they believe is right.

  • Comment removed

  • I live where this was made...soooooo true. The only thing is that they don't pay road taxes...yet they drive on the roads and hold up a LOT of traffic...it's upsetting

  • i respect the amish a lot for the life that they chose to follow, it must be so hard in this day n age. good people

  • This is a great insite into there life, They need to keep this pace and standard of living , the modern world is not nice at times and all of us "modernists" dream of a simpler life away from the treadmill of materialism, i would love to go there for a few months and see for myself, it would be like an intensive detox of all things modern, Thank you for posting this .

  • It sucks that anyone has to pay school taxes. Americans had higher literacy rates before schooling became a government project.

    -jcr

  • This was really nicely done. I live in Ohio and love visiting the Amish Country and respect their way of living.

  • This is great! How can I get some Butter? Will you send me some info please? Thank You so much and have a great day.
