Humming this song during Hurricane Irene a few weeks ago, hoping the "Electric Company" would bring the power to the surrounding neighborhoods omg....
@ivegotalongdong I think Bill Cosby and Rita Moreno managed to make a buck here and there. Seriously, the black woman starred in Roots, the Next Generation. Not sure about the rest. Would cost a few bucks to put that cast back together today!
Geeze, you know times are a changing when the only correlation people have between themselves and old t.v. programming is, "I saw that on Family Guy..." lol.
It would probably horrify the likes of Al Sharpton and Donald Wildemon to know that Skip Hinnant, one of the Company's cast members was also the voice of Fritz the Cat!!
It was because of his role in the show that Ralph Bakshi hired him to voice that "mother-f***in' cat" in the first place!
@crcracker1 Me too,it was an old T.V. on on a stand that to me was high up there but @ 11:00 a.m. it would come on and after it was over we would go to the cafeteria for lunch.I loved the 1970's as a kid.
...when Scanimate was king... I was born too late to see the early versions of this show, and when I was a kid it came on just as I was leaving for school. Awesome stuff, though.
@JonasClark Hahahaha wrong. It's out on video. I couldn't resist borrowing the season 1 DVD set from the library. They also have first season Sesame Street. The first episode is a gas. It opens with Gordon coming home from work, briefcase, tanned leather jacket. Comes across a little girl - GET THIS! Realizes she's new and invites her to his place. Oh to be sure, Susan's there and it's on the level. But try that stunt today? You get the cuffs whether you're black OR white.
@UglySean Ooh, I MUST see this. And yeah, that was back when people were more trusting. Not to say there weren't creeps back then - just that these days, we've gone from being too lax to too paranoid.
@faustwasfine One of my favourite white people of the time that challenged my six year old sexual orientation was seeing a young blonde boy nicknamed "Buddy", drummer of the Short Circus.
Everyday in school we would watch this class when it came on. I never knew it was a regular show. i always thought it was produced on campus or by the school district and shown to us in class from a studio, because there weren't any commercials.
@269848 I wanted to send out fan mail to Mr. Rogers (and Mr. Dressup) in my adult years thanking them for all they did in my youth. In both cases I didnt' get my fanny in motion researching their contact addresses before they died. I did reach Bob Dorough (Schoolhouse Rock) and Commander Tom (news weatherman and children's show extraordinaire from Buffalo New York USA) so there's been some success. Some really do answer email.
wow. wow. i memba this dude saying on a post up here youtube is like a time machine. ima have to cosign that. this brings back memories. i think ima bout to cry. lol
I'd also like to say that what the nazis did in terms of social and economic programs was not evil.
It's the whole ethnic cleansing and starting a massive war part that was evil.
I am intrigued by what socialism offers, though I heavily question whether or not it can be sustained in the long term, especially with how lazy most western populations are these days.
Also, check out Morgan Freeman on the far right of the screen :-)
@able34bravo ... Were you trying to make a joke or are you truly that naive? Nazis were fascists, generally considered to be far right in ideology though with some left influences but they were certainly not socialists.
@Lupin788 Are we really getting into a socialism debate on a video of the Electric Company?
If we are, then I think both of the people who are saying the nazis were not socialists need to do a little more research on what exactly socialism is in terms of economics and social programs, and then compare it to what the nazis did and didn't do in Germany and Austria.
If not, then I'd like to reiterate, check out Morgan Freeman on the far right of the screen :-)
