Many people don't know that U.S. corporations like DuPont are responsible for the creation of the Vietnam war. They were frustrated that their out-sourcing of jobs out of the U.S. to much cheaper Vietnam were being threatened by North Vietnam. These soldiers were forced into war by a draft, were forced to sacrifice their lives for another country, ordered to do what they did or face consequences for not obeying their commander, and did not know who was enemy, a Viet Cong sympathizer, or were innocent villagers. There were some who were hostile toward American soldiers. America should no longer be the police of countries who do not want our help. I think it all could have been avoided in the first place.

In my job I work with a lot veterans who've returned from Iraq and Afghanistan and some have admitted to killing innocent people. @ediadegbola no where in my post did I say what they did was right. Of course what they did was wrong. Not all of these soldiers were adults ready for this kind of combat. A lot of them were 18 year old boys that weren't even ready to leave their mothers. But this war was very tricky the soldiers were very paranoid because VC were sometimes in random villages. They were just regular civilians. Even women hid grandees under their straw hats and blew up US patrols even Vietnamese children fought.

These soldiers were forced into war by a draft, were forced to sacrifice their lives for another country, ordered to do what they did or face consequences for not obeying their commander, and did not know who was enemy, a Viet Cong sympathizer, or were innocent villagers. There were some who were hostile toward American soldiers. America should no longer be the police of countries who do not want our help. I think it all could have been avoided in the first place.

The bottom line about My Lai is that NO ONE paid for what happened there. Calley was just a little shit who has thrived living in the shit that that was caused when it was exposed. @ediadegbola no where in my post did I say what they did was right. Of course what they did was wrong. Not all of these soldiers were adults ready for this kind of combat. A lot of them were 18 year old boys that weren't even ready to leave their mothers. But this war was very tricky the soldiers were very paranoid because VC were sometimes in random villages. They were just regular civilians. Even women hid grandees under their straw hats and blew up US patrols even Vietnamese children fought.

In 1972, the British Army Parachute Regiment did something similar to this on Bloody Sunday.. they shot and killed loads of peaceful protestors. Even ones that ran away or flew a white handkerchief to show that they weren't combatant.

I'm american and I know there is a lot of good about america but the Vietnam war is not one of our high points. As a matter of fact is is probably the lowest point we have ever sank as a nation. This was a senseless useless war. 58000 americans lost their lives for nothing. tens of thousands of vietnamese were senseless killed. We should not have been over there. Lt William Calley never really received just punishment. He has recently admitted everything and apologized for this massacre.

@TroyBilt007 usa has to pick and choose where we fight for freedom. No we can't go to every country, especially due to the fact that liberal commies make it politically unviable. Even if we did like the communists - and wiped out all the liberals here in usa - we still would not have the money or resources to go everywhere. But that does not mean we can't save those possible of being saved.

@ColDwight North Vietnam stated the war first by invading South Vietnam and impose Communism and they had no right to do that. Supporting South Vietnam is very important but sending troops in the 1st place is not.

@ColDwight Because of the Cold war, both sides(US and USSR) overthrown to install dictators. Who started the Vietnam War that felt was communist it it the US? I don't agree with US actions in the Cold War but if we let the USSR do what it wants, we would not be typing here. Some feel whatsoever anti-communist or not. In fact USSR is just as paranoid as we are. Times changes after the Cold war ended.

@Onion241 I'm sure your a military man and I salute you. I also think we did the right thing in WW2. But I think the military option should be used wisely and not haphazardly. I in no way support communism BUT the Vietnam communist, as disgusting as they are/were, DID NOT COME TO AMERICAN SHORES AND ATTACK US. We were not equiped or experienced to fight a jungle war and never really had any idea on how to defeat them. Face it. Vietnam = bad idea.
