Shinn was very prejudicied throughout history. Who made the GSD should have kept more focused Shinn as the protagonist and his rivalry with Kira and of course, with the Shinn victorious in the end all, would have been much better.

But no announcement or the release date of the movie have been made know since the person make the movie fell ill with cancer. Just hoping they give us an announcement this year on it & hoping it ether comes out by the end of this year or the beginning for next.
@darksword101 You're missing my point. I agree that the Fukuda team screwed up the entire plot of Destiny. But what I'm saying is that the half-assed plot defined Shinn Asuka as a character. Shinn's personality is woven into the plot of Destiny so thoroughly that separating them makes no sense. The best you can argue is that the Fukuda team could have done a better job with Shinn, and the only evidence for this claim would be Zeta, or your own fanfic (which I encourage you to do).
@darksword101 A character cannot exist independent of the writers. Saying that the blame rests on the Fukuda team may be true, but it doesn't change the fact that Shinn was a terrible anti-hero. If you think the Fukuda team did a bad job, I agree. But saying that Shinn was a good character who the Fukuda team screwed up makes no sense, because the Fukuda team defined the character named Shinn Asuka. Any traits you wish to give him that the Fukuda team did not should be reserved for fanfics.
@academicace The thing is the entire setup for shinn becoming a better person was there. It's hard not to miss unless your a little kid. If they were going to thrust the spotlight back on kira then why bother with any of the newer kids on their side. That's just dumb.
I definitely do not hate Shinn at all, but he became less likeable as the series progressed. Initially, I could easily relate to him and his loss. But as I said he becomes less and less likeable, as time passed. He became arrogant, over-confident and a raging hypocrite. But at least he redeemed himself in the end, at least in my eyes :)
Shinn's hated cause his character's a walking hypocrite. I saw Destiny, he seemed to betray his own ideals quite a bit. He was a generally selfish brat too. And more than anything, he was excessively prideful.
His character failed at being a revenger. It failed at being sympathetic, it failed at everything :S. He became a villain with little reasoning and a puppet so easily it was rediculous. I mean I could understand his hate for the SEED protags, it was misplaced, but damn.
@KatomaMundara blame the writers not the character. Shinn was supposed to develop and the setup was there but in the end the fukuda team just got lazy.
@hitokri9 wasn't it orbs fault for betraying there neutrality ideals like they were nothing and provoking the attack in the first place. and second, considering that dgibril was basically a pure evil dictator, and orb was hiding him, and betraying its ideals again. i wouldn't call any reason for him attacking orb insane.
@hansfromthehood actually, shinn seemed to be mainly aiming at either the soldiers that have been trying to kill him for the better part of 3months, and the bunkers where dgibril might be at, he as well as quite a few ZAFT pilots tried to minimize casualties to only the military.

and when the EA first attacked orb, they were after the Mass Driver, and since Orb helped them build there MS and OS, it wouldn't have been unbelievable if they would lend them there mass driver.

I probably would've liked Shinn better if I watched Destiny first but I like both Kira and Athrun as characters (and Shinn bitched more than they did combined, and that's pretty bad). It's very difficult for me to not be annoyed by Shinn being an asshole. Not saying there's no good reason but some of the misplaced hate is annoying.
@moarfeene Ive come to look at Shinn as a tool. He is so wrapped up in the whole death of his family and getting revenge he becomes the Chairmans pawn. With the SEED gift he was powerful enough to get things done. And expendable. Fortunately for Kira he had the whole "Spacial Awareness" thing and SEED so him and Athrun should've stomped him several times over during the series. Im just glad Astray makes up for most of what the main SEED storyline lacks.

The problem with your statement is that Uzumi is a hypocrite and a liar, and admitting his mistakes doesn't make his actions justified. Uzumi promised that Orb is a peaceful nation that wouldn't help another nation from their affairs to being attacked by another nation, and people desire at least peace during war time, and Uzumi promised security and no wars in their nation. Here, Orb's problem is that they weren't actual neutral. They were playing both sides against the other for when it suited them. Orb was a nation where people could go to escape the general idiocy of the rest of the world, as established in about the third episode of Gundam Seed, but when general idiocy reached Orb via Uzumi, Orb went to shit.
if you don't believe a first person opinion like mine, then would you believe a character's opinion? Let's say an Orb nobleman named Rhondo Ghina Sahaku? Actrually Shinn's blame is entirely focused on the Atha's, and the reason why Shinn considers Orb's ideals as "sugar-coated", because Orb deviated from their ideals when it decided to go into war, and its ideals are nothing but appealing words and fake promises. It's kinda why Shinn hates Orb.
I just realized that they didn't keep the music for these scenes in the English version. There's no chance of appealing to the average gamer with a Gundam game, so why would they do something something that would make their target demographic, Gundam fans, mad. I don't think it costs money to license a midi version of the song.
It sucks that Gundam Musuo 2 has good music with its cutscenes and the english version compare to it sucks. Japan really gives the US and others 2nd rate stuff like Neir giving the english version a old man and the Japanese a young guy.

I don't think that's a devcisive excuse for "Kiratards", considering that SEED mode is the physical representation of surpassing one's limits, so pretty much, when anyone is in SEED mode, they're trying their best. Of course, Shinn mentally unstable, in the last episode Shinn was shooting like a mad monkey and couldn't even hit a stationary IJ(when I meant stationary, it means "Not moving")
And also, in the last Special Edition disk, they added a scen where Shinn had a flashback which causes him to freeze, in mid-clash with Athrun during Operation Fury(battle of Orb), alsoduring the last battle in the SEs, Shinn's dialogue was changed to present Shinn's mental Breakdown(like when Shinn said "it's too late!", it was changed to "AHHHH! Please stop!").
But it's true that Athrun was undefeated in SEED mode, though, considering that he only used it in the last episode.

Kira went SEED mode first, did a blade grasp, angered Shinn, Shinn then went to SEED mode too, and then pushed Kira back twice with a beam rifle(while Kira has like 2-5 ranged weapons) in episode 42, yeah, I'd say Shinn is more likely higher in skill than Kira.
Well, in Destiny VS Gouf, Shinn was hesitant and trying to talk Athrun and Meyrin back, and the one really trying was Rey.

Well, it's more based on preference. And surprisingly, the only time Shinn went rage was when Cagalli and Athrun were talking crap.
Although, we could agree on the fact that Athrun has a much better character development in SEED, but GSD pretty much ruined him. He also used to be my favorite character as well. But disliked Athrun after he slapped Shinn for saving the civillians who were harbored by the EA. It's like Morosawa(headwriter) is trying too hard to screw Shinn and Athrun over.

It wasn't self-centered, it was more or less the truth, Uzumi was risking Orb's citizens lives just because he wouldn't borrow the mass driver to the EA, and he destroyed Orb for nothing considering that EA was able to go back into outer space. And pretty much the only reason the EA was asking for help is because Uzumi already assisted the Alliance on making G-weapons.-_-

Killing himself and blowing a Nation up is not atoning, that's running away from responsibility, especially when Uzumi compromised the lives of the civilians in Orb. He basically destroyed it for nothing, since the entire reason of the EA wanted the Mass driver is to get into space, and they did, while Orb became a pile of rubble.

also have coordinator citizens. and if by chance the ea won, there's a huge chance the coordinator orb citizens will get killed as well. so he decided not to help them achieve their goal, by putting into action orb's ideals for his last breath.. and that's the only way to atone for his supposedly misdeed of acquiring the tech (although the technology orb gained helped a lot in the future battles)..

Orb is stated to be the land of peace, and people seek refuge there. away from war. And the reason the EA attacked is because Uzumi is a hypocrite and deviated for what Orb stands for. It was really refreshing, too. It showed that sometimes, Kira wasn't always right, and Shinn wasn't always wrong, and the characters' interactions really helped to develop them and their relationships so much more and to help them come to a better understanding of each other and their motives toward the latter parts of the storyline. It was like much more like Gundam at its best.

Kira wasent aiming for the cockpit he was aiming for the legs, (he used the exact same move to cut off both of Duel Gundam's legs in the first Gundam SEED).
It only appears that it went for the waist becuase when Impulse Gundam detached it's legs it thrust them downward, and the chest if thrusted upwards thus causing Kira to miss it completely.

If you think the Fukuda team did a bad job, I agree. But saying that Shinn was a good character who the Fukuda team screwed up makes no sense, because the Fukuda team defined the character named Shinn Asuka. Any traits you wish to give him that the Fukuda team did not should be reserved for fanfics.

I definitely do not hate Shinn at all, but he became less likeable as the series progressed. Initially, I could easily relate to him and his loss. But as I said he becomes less and less likeable, as time passed. He became arrogant, over-confident and a raging hypocrite. But at least he redeemed himself in the end, at least in my eyes :)

Shinn's hated cause his character's a walking hypocrite. I saw Destiny, he seemed to betray his own ideals quite a bit. He was a generally selfish brat too. And more than anything, he was excessively prideful.
His character failed at being a revenger. It failed at being sympathetic, it failed at everything :S. He became a villain with little reasoning and a puppet so easily it was rediculous. I mean I could understand his hate for the SEED protags, it was misplaced, but damn.

1st he was betrayed by orb, who constantly helped the EA and his family ultimately got killed by it.
2nd athrun chose to finally betray ZAFT again, atleast in shinn's eyes anyway.
3rd he felt betrayed by luna, his best friend and almost girlfriend, when she temprarily sided with athrun.
so yeah he was pretty much screwed from the very start. it doesn't help that he was durandal never got him therapy

I probably would've liked Shinn better if I watched Destiny first but I like both Kira and Athrun as characters (and Shinn bitched more than they did combined, and that's pretty bad). It's very difficult for me to not be annoyed by Shinn being an asshole. Not saying there's no good reason but some of the misplaced hate is annoying.

With the SEED gift he was powerful enough to get things done. And expendable. Fortunately for Kira he had the whole "Spacial Awareness" thing and SEED so him and Athrun should've stomped him several times over during the series. Im just glad Astray makes up for most of what the main SEED storyline lacks.

I just realized that they didn't keep the music for these scenes in the English version. There's no chance of appealing to the average gamer with a Gundam game, so why would they do something something that would make their target demographic, Gundam fans, mad. I don't think that's a devcisive excuse for "Kiratards", considering that SEED mode is the physical representation of surpassing one's limits, so pretty much, when anyone is in SEED mode, they're trying their best. So just because Kira doesn't kill(most of the time) doesn't mean he isn't trying his best.
Of course, Shinn mentally unstable, in the last episode Shinn was shooting like a mad monkey and couldn't even hit a stationary IJ(when I meant stationary, it means "Not moving")

And also, in the last Special Edition disk, they added a scen where Shinn had a flashback which causes him to freeze, in mid-clash with Athrun during Operation Fury(battle of Orb), alsoduring the last battle in the SEs, Shinn's dialogue was changed to present Shinn's mental Breakdown(like when Shinn said "it's too late!", it was changed to "AHHHH! Please stop!").
But it's true that Athrun was undefeated in SEED mode, though, considering that he only used it in the last episode.

Kira went SEED mode first, did a blade grasp, angered Shinn, Shinn then went to SEED mode too, and then pushed Kira back twice with a beam rifle(while Kira has like 2-5 ranged weapons) in episode 42, yeah, I'd say Shinn is more likely higher in skill than Kira.
Well, in Destiny VS Gouf, Shinn was hesitant and trying to talk Athrun and Meyrin back, and the one really trying was Rey.

Shinn only went SEED mode when he was taken over the edge by Athrun and Rey's Emo talk during Episode 37(Athrun's defection), and Shinn obliterated Athrun's Gouf, but the during the early parts of the chase, Shinn wants both Athrun and Meyrin to go back and wasn't really trying, though.

Well, it's more based on preference. And surprisingly, the only time Shinn went rage was when Cagalli and Athrun were talking crap.
Although, we could agree on the fact that Athrun has a much better character development in SEED, but GSD pretty much ruined him. He also used to be my favorite character as well. But disliked Athrun after he slapped Shinn for saving the civillians who were harbored by the EA. It's like Morosawa(headwriter) is trying too hard to screw Shinn and Athrun over.

@portablemp5 he didn't blow up the nation, just the facility. and he was faced with a difficult situation and did what he thought was best. it really depends on the perception of the viewer. i view it as uzumi collaborating with ea because he's of need of the technology to build mobile weapons so he can manufacture his own for orbs defenses.. then when ea forced him to lend the lambda driver, and ea's purpose is to go to space to wipe out coordinators. of course he will not agree since orb is..

also have coordinator citizens. and if by chance the ea won, there's a huge chance the coordinator orb citizens will get killed as well. so he decided not to help them achieve their goal, by putting into action orb's ideals for his last breath.. and that's the only way to atone for his supposedly misdeed of acquiring the tech (although the technology orb gained helped a lot in the future battles)..

Orb is stated to be the land of peace, and people seek refuge there. away from war. And the reason the EA attacked is because Uzumi is a hypocrite and deviated for what Orb stands for. It's entirely uzumi's fault, Orb and its citizens are all his responsibility, and he decided to blow it up. Heck, a better solution is to just surrender the Mass Driver after Uzumi sent the Kusanagi into space.-_-

Well, the EA still managed to get into space w/o Uzumi's help. And why do you still use Orb's ideals as an excuse for Uzumi's incompetence? He blew up the whole nation, heck in Destiny Astray, Orb is pretty much a big crater while people were trying to rebuild, heck it's the reason why Rhondo Ghina Sahaku created a space station(Ame-no-Mihashira) in the likes of Orb, except better. And blowing up a nation is stupid, and if Uzumi thinks that's best then he's just a prideful hypocrite.
It doesn't matter, if he used the EA, the reason EA even attacked is because Uzumi helped the EA create the G-weapons.

Shinn blames Uzumi because Uzumi was acting like prideful idiot, and really Shinn pretty much justifies the reason for blaming Uzumi and Cagalli couldn't even refute Shinn's claim and defend Uzumi. If anyone who is self-centered, it's Uzumi
And the reason Shinn even became a soldier is because he wanted to prevent the same incident that happened to him from happening to others, which was the reason why helped the civilians who were enslaved by the EA.

Wow... So much support for Shinn, I never thought I'd see it. But Kira is still the best. And even if he is unrealistic what are we basing him on Human standards? But if you think about it Kira was an "evolved" human. So its easy to see he could be different. And Shinn's life sucks, so yeah he might have a reason to get angry but that doesn't make him any kind of a decent main character... And as for Athuran he might only be good as a back-up character...

It was really refreshing, too. It showed that sometimes, Kira wasn't always right, and Shinn wasn't always wrong, and the characters' interactions really helped to develop them and their relationships so much more and to help them come to a better understanding of each other and their motives toward the latter parts of the storyline. It was like much more like Gundam at its best.

Kira wasent aiming for the cockpit he was aiming for the legs, (he used the exact same move to cut off both of Duel Gundam's legs in the first Gundam SEED).
It only appears that it went for the waist becuase when Impulse Gundam detached it's legs it thrust them downward, and the chest if thrusted upwards thus causing Kira to miss it completely.
