Both of them are great guitarists, but if I had to choose it would be Richie over slash. He's just more versatile in technique. Slash is still a great player and if I were to talk about the differences in terms of numbers I would give Richie a 4.8 stars out of 5 and Slash would get 4.79.
Dunno about that. You gotta consider Slash's playing is easily recognizable anywhere and it doesn't matter how technically superior Sambora is. Slash has a feel that noone can really imitate. Having seen Slash and Richie both live... Slash doesn't even hold a candle to Richie. Slash actually got a little boring after a while but I've seen Richie 5 times and never once did he lose my attention.
Richie is really complete, good sound, good performance, good player, good technique, like well-balanced type of bullshit, so overall he wins. But for the solos, there's not point of comparison Slash is God while Richie is only human :)

Slippery When Wet was a great album but it did not change rock n roll the way AFD did, it just catapulted Bon Jovi to superstardom, and they did it with the help of Desmond Child..

Once Adler got fired and Izzy left, GnR wasn't the same, even though Matt and Gilby were good, it just wasn't the same. And btw, without Izzy's riffs, Guns would have had maybe half the success they had, or even less. He's the genius, Slash, with all the respect, just helped and came up with solos. There was a moment when GnR were the best, but only for a very short time.

Anyway back to our topic, in the 80's AFD beats SWW and NJ, in the 90's KTF beats UYI I, but UYI II beats KTF (my opinion), TD beats TSI and in the 2000's Jovi win. End of story.

Both of them are great guitarists, but if I had to choose it would be Richie over slash. He's just more versatile in technique. Slash is still a great player and if I were to talk about the differences in terms of numbers I would give Richie a 4.8 stars out of 5 and Slash would get 4.79.

Axl sounds like a dying dog live (this comes from a Gn'R fan btw) Bon Jovi? Jon and Richie, along with David's backing vocals sound very good. And nowadays, the new GnR is more of a cover band, while Bon Jovi are still great. Ok, you like GnR more, but can you be a little objective? You can't compare only the 90's stuff. :)

@CalThAl You're wrong about many things.. Axl was not a drunk, it was basically Slash and the rest who were drunk.. GnR lived the lifestyle and wrote songs the way they lived it.. Bon Jovi just pretended to live the rockstar lifestyle, and they wrote meaningless songs for money.. And back in the day, GnR were the top live act, they would poop on Bon Jovi back in those days.. Right now I would admit Bon Jovi are better but back in the 90s GnR made Bon Jovi look like their bitches studio and live.

@CalThAl I can't be agree with you because I think the time when Guns N Roses sounded better is the time when they were all stoned and drunk. It sounded really magical to me. Axl's voice was like an angel comin' from rock n roll paradise. But I don't think it was better than Bon Jovi. Just like I don't think Bon Jovi sound better than Guns N Roses. I think both bands sound as good one as the other. They're both rock n roll spirit.

When it comes to music (songs) they will both fade in the same period of time, if they will ever fade. @CalThAl GnR will be remembered for their music as well.. Think about it: AFD sold 28 million and its just their debut album, UYI 1 and 2 charted #2 and #1 respectively, Welcome To The Jungle is voted the Best Hard Rock song of all time, November Rain is voted as the 6th greatest solo of all time.. Slippery When Wet was a great album but it did not change rock n roll the way AFD did, it just catapulted Bon Jovi to superstardom, and they did it with the help of Desmond Child..

@Mordor6121512 People loved Guns for their attitude. AFD sold that many, but their next albums... not even close. Once Adler got fired and Izzy left, GnR wasn't the same, even though Matt and Gilby were good, it just wasn't the same. And btw, without Izzy's riffs, Guns would have had maybe half the success they had, or even less. He's the genius, Slash, with all the respect, just helped and came up with solos. There was a moment when GnR were the best, but only for a very short time.

@CalThAl I just showed you GnR were loved for their music with all their accolades.. I agree GnR are not the same without Izzy and Adler.. Besides, Izzy's genius is not riffs, its his songwriting.. Slash was the genius behind the riffs and solos.. The UYI albums sold well, as I said, they both debuted at #2 and #1.. Though I would admit, UYI would have sold more had it been one single record with the best songs.. It would have rivaled AFD

UYI (as a best of from the two albums) would have 5 songs that would really compete with AFD: Civil War, Don't Cry, You Could Be Mine, Estranged and November Rain. So, AFD would still be the best GnR album and it seems it will remain like that. Anyway back to our topic, in the 80's AFD beats SWW and NJ, in the 90's KTF beats UYI I, but UYI II beats KTF (my opinion), TD beats TSI and in the 2000's Jovi win. End of story.

Don't Cry, November Rain, Live And Let Die, Coma vs Bed Of Roses, Dry County and Keep The Faith? I'd give it to UYI I.. But I'd agree TSI is the worst out of all of them, besides I don't even consider it a full record it was just a bunch of stupid covers.. In the 80s and early 90s, GnR win.. 2000s, Jovi win..

@Mordor6121512 @CalThAl AFD sold more than the rest cuz all song were amazing and the band sounded like a band. then their second release, lies, was just an double ep, being the first one alredy released before AFD without the quality of it, and half of it were covers. the second one was 1 day acoust jam, being one of the songs already released on AFD and one written as a joke. the Illusions didn't sell as much because the band wasn't a gang anymore (slash called them their "White Album").
