  • I'm a Scot,so why do I regard Lancashire and Yorkshire people as bloody brilliant? Quite simply- because they are.

    RIP Fred. You are missed.

  • 2 words is all is needed to describe Fred....

  • I admire the man for his nerve of heights, but just dont like him for his inability to understand his kids. For him his family seem to come second? I guess its a northen way of life ?

  • @alexdoong

It is not a "Northen way of life;" I care about my children, so keep tha mouth shut in future!!

I've met Lynda, and she'd soon stop yer in yer tracks!!

    Me.

  • @Kittielips "tha's met linda".. do message me more jennie.

  • @alanfromdarwen

I had a row with her on Ashton market.....She deliberately wound me up so I had a go back, and when I realised who she was, I almost fainted! We ended up having a good laugh. John's a proper dapper chap; he used to walk up Bow Street too.

  • I'm from Yorkshire, but it almost makes me want to be lanky seeing Fred! RIP you legend!

  • thats a great statement you made , Lancs and yorkies great northern folk .

  • @MR7526 Not a very loyal Yorkshireman then are you? Yorkshire and Lancashire historically have done and still do hate each others.

Fred Dibs was a legend though.

  • Wish there were more like Fred, natural engineers.

  • I smile everytime I see Fred, cos he was such a smiler. I think theres abit of Fred in everyone, especially Lancastrians ;-). RIP Fred.

  • What a nice tribute to Fred thanks for posting

  • I was building stands at the Classic Bike Show at the old Belle Vue Exhibition hall a few days before it opened, and after me & the guys had finished work we rolled a ball of brown tape & bubble wrap into a football & started a kickabout. Fred was there because he knew the event organiser and proceeded to run into the melee, kicking the ball in any and every direction like a madman. Eventually we made him sit down because he'd gone a disturbing shade of purple & we thought he was going to die.

  • do you know i can just see that happening in my mind that was Fred .

  • my mam likes fred dibnah

  • what a beautiful tribute to grate man.

One of my mum's friends knew Fred very well, and my nan met him loads of times, he was a real hero from the day he was born to the day he died he never gave up even in his fight against cancer.

We can all learn from Fred he was a good teacher as well as a fantastic steeplejack.

    R.I.P god bless him.

  • a brilliant Lancashire bloke still admired now as he was when alive his tv shows are priceless .

  • Met Fred in 1997,such a loss, really. We all should have learned a lot from "The Man of Construction"

  • I never met the man person but the way he came over on the tele makes me proud to be from Lancashire .

  • We miss you Fred.

  • i agree , true characters like Fred dont come along to often he was a gradly Lancashire Mon in every sense .

  • "It's going, it's going!" "The wole world!" Ol' Lancashire! Can't beat it! Oh and ther best Lancashire sayin "Wanna brew?"

  • "Did you like that?"

  • A fitting tribute for a local hero (yes, I'm a Bolton lad too, in fact I was in the same year at Canon Slade as Fred's daughter Jane). He is very sadly missed. He had a unique talent to bring his enthusiasm about all things engineering across on the screen without being patronising or boring. We shall never see his like again.....
