I only played a bit of SO1 and now SO4. I think SO4 is more entertaining in the end, I get bored slower but Tales allows more epic fights. Abyssion in ToS and the 3 God-Generals at once in TotA for instance. Andi t has multiplayer.

One musn't forget that Star Ocean's team is the original Tales of Phantasia team. ;)

I LOVE the tales of series battles systems, and i'll agree that the AI on tales is better than star ocean's, BUT, I find the star ocean battles to be more fun, lol.

That's simple. Star Ocean's battles are more fun because your default movement is free-run, and the target is always the closest enemy to you when you hit the attack button.

Tales, on the other hand, restricts you to a sort of 'fencing strip' movement scheme, unless you hold down a certain button, in which case, your target still stays the same no matter where you go.

I love both series, don't get me wrong, and each has their depths and different awesomeness... I just find the battles in Star Ocean to be more fun, because they've got more adrenaline and less time spent worrying about combos and different Artes being arcane or not :p

gets the blood boiling again for battle!!!!! although, it would be nice if star ocean was online. they could have a customizing option in the game, where you could customize a blank fighter you can make through the machinery specialty! and customize the fighter's fighting style, and weapon, hair, clothes, ect., to fight online against others.... at least that would be interesting at least.
