I just love this tune, your banjo playing rocks! I play this in a medley with "Seneca Square Dance" & "Possum's Tail is Bare" on the fiddle, of course.
@guywolff Hi, I'm in Bristol and my friend Janet & I run and OT Jam in Berlin, CT the first Tuesday each month. Maybe it's time to start a gathering in western CT!
@SueH99 Great website. That Senica tune or Waiting for the Federals was used on Ry Cooders "The Long Riders". Love it .Can you send me a tune list to learn before the Feb 7 th jam & can I come ? You guys are just what Ive been looking for. Most jams dont need ten clawhammer banjo players . Nice to see my old friend Dave Kiphuth mentioned here. I remember when it was Dave, Bob Carlin at the summer camp in New Milford and me playing clawhammer in CT, ( Oh and Dave Howard in Oakville) ..
@SueH99 Sue is that the Bristol OLd Time Fiddle gathering ??? I am in Litchfield . Someone told me they didn't need a lot of accompaniment instruments (Like BAnjo ) .
I always forget to ask, Guy, but ´there seems to be many versions of (cold)Frosty morn(ing). I learned my version from Ken Perlman's clawhammer book and I have never heard anyone else playing it. I guess it is like tunes in Ireland or any other folk music, that they change and differ due to region etc?
Exactly correct. Have a look at Tom Collins known as FretlessFury for some conversation on roundpeak and the followers of Dwight Diller say goundhogpeggy for the Kentuky clawhammer style .. I am not very educated in this and have gotten myself in trouble sometimes because of it .. More below
This tune was worked up following banjo players here on YT . This would have been quite different if I was following a fiddle player . Great Fiddle playing informs the banjo and vica versa . I think Ken Perman is known for "Melodic Clawhamer"Is that correct ?? If so his version would have a very different flavore . All the best , Guy
Wow! Even better this time. I must say I prefer this order better too. I got to try and practice the triplet more as It sounds really great when you use them in tunes like this.
Yes I like this order better as well . Also since I had done Cold Frosty Morning before I wanted to put Pretty Little Dog on the title first !!! Funny . Its really fun playing these tunes off you Anders ..Im afraid I over do the triplet thing .I need to add more slurs and pulloff things . All the best , Guy
