I guess I view this song a little differently. I listened to it each and everyday my husband was in iraq. We dont have kids, but the message of staying strong while he was away is what this song gave me. It reminded me that even if he never came home I would have him in my heart forever. I am fortunate that he did come home and wont be going back but i still love this song and listen to it often.

I wish i could have had someone tell me that my daddy was a good man. Only thing i know about my father is that we look and act alike. My father has no ideal im alive, im 30 now. My mother told him she was pregnant she had already had a one year old and didnt need another kid, she told him she was going to get rid of it. He didnt agree and told her no, but soon after, she left the state and made the choice to keep me. lost contact....SAD!! My daddy was or is a good man, he wanted to keep me.

And of course since his children was young he want them to know that he's a good man and he didn't leave them because he wanted to. you should focuse on the lyrics its so blunt how can you not see that :D

Her father which was my moms brother, my favorite uncle....died September 12, 2010 ....heartatttack, she was his only daughter. This song is so beautiful. My teacher showed it to my class one day for a Plot paper and I fell in love with it. It brings me to tears. I guess it's for all those kids who have grown up without a father because he passed for some reason. My boyfriend hasn't had a father figure since he was 11 years old. Maybe this is why it brings me to tears - for him. He watched his father die at just 11 and there was no one to tell him his father was a good man.
