  • Why did you shoot those people? Because i dont like mondays :)

    What a classic

  • Who does?

  • nobody xaxaxaxaxa

  • i found out what this song was about this morning so sad....but the some is sooo catchy haha

  • Jerry Seinfeld? A *little* bit. For a much closer resemblance, check out Richard E. Grant in Withnail & I.

  • And EVERYBODY: For the love of Mankind, if you're having a bad day, if you're hopped up on meth, if you just had a psychotic break, please do not try to handle it by shooting up those of us just minding our own business. That will NOT help you in any way.

  • Then pick who you think would be cool to hang out with and play them the Ramones. If you dig the Ramones and they've never heard of them you're obviously the coolest one there, and if they're cool too then they'll want to hang out with you! Start with Blitzkrieg Bop. If they don't like it, play Beat on the Brat and dismiss them as unworthy of your love. YOU, my friend, HAVE the coolness.

  • Progessivedotcom?..What the Hell is up with that? ShitAss

  • Chuck Norris originally wrote this song about the day of the week he didn't like. They had to change it to "Monday" after he side-kicked that day off the calender.

  • I love the piano in the beginning. :]

Great song... despite it's depressing inner meaning... :o

  • lead singer looks like Jerry Siendfelt

  • uh, it's bob geldof.

  • I guess Seinfeld bears a resemblance. This is Sir Robert Frederick Zenon "Bob" Geldof, singer, songwriter, humanitarian, political activist, philanthropist, and actor (played Pink, the lead in Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' movie). This video is in '79, 3 years before that movie came out in '82. Four years after that in '86 he received honorary knighthood as Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth II. Just a tad bit of cool trivia for you. :-)

  • The Dude from The Wall....

  • oh well idt anyone not knowing who they r would result in no friends, but im sure ull find some

  • o thts fine n dandy. just sayin not everyone knws things u know

    :)

  • dont be rude if someone dsnt know something tht u know even if ur younger than tht person

  • lol I was ironic but no problem dude

  • wow you're a beast to know that lol

  • Its funny, that this is the song they got most known for.

  • She actually said, "I don't like Mondays, this brightens up the day." The Boomtown Rats were doing a radio interview when the story came over the AP wire and Bob Geldof went back to the room and got the idea for the song.

  • why the hell is everyone talking about wars??

    great song though

  • This doesn't have to do with any soviet people, it has to do with a massacre in a school. When they asked the kid why he did it, he replied "I don't like Mondays."

  • it was a girl, actually. Brenda Ann Spencer. The attack happened in 1979 in San Diego. She was 16 years old at the time. She is still in prison.

  • i think it was a chick dude in america and it wasnt a massicare i think only one person died or none.

  • more like 8 died and 12 injured

  • 12 people died and that is bull sh!t that she did that :(

  • Yeah, seriously, what a dick thing to do, shoot someone with a hunting rifle... She should definitely go apologize.

  • 2 dead, nine injured

  • bhcanaswp --The Soviets did the dying in that war, the British just got carpet bombed if the British lost as many soldiers as the Soviets there would be no British left, fool so stop spouting shit and yes America takes undeserved credit for winning that war when we were just the money men. Sorry

  • The British did win the war,the U.S joined at the arse end of it to claim the glory..everyone knows that.

  • the english did not win the war russia and the u.s.a. intervention superior military won ww2.read history dont listen to idiot british propaganda.meanwhile brits occupy part of our country northern ireland.yet bring down the berlin wall shit lately.u.s.a brits full of hypocricy

  • bob geldof is a scumbag who made millions out of others misery.why dont he give away to worlds poor his money.he cant sing dosent talk or look like us irish.what a prick

  • *****How do you know if your sister is on her period? Your dad's cock tastes funny.*****

  • This is the best school shooting rampage song ever.

  • agreed!

  • And you would know this how?

  • SKOTTT!!

  • Yes?

  • Heyyy!!!

    :]

  • I'm pretty sure she was up for parole this year but missed out for another ten.

  • Spencer's crime, her perceived lack of remorse, and lack of a serious explanation for her actions when she was captured, inspired the song "I Don't Like Mondays" by the Irish band The Boomtown Rats, written by Bob Geldof.

  • The song has to do with Brenda Spencer

Who went on a Shooting spree in 1979

When she was 16 years old When asked why she went on her rampage, she shrugged and replied, "I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day."

  • Am I the only one who thinks bob geldof was hot..?

  • I miss the 80's soooooooooooo much. Thats when music was reallly good like This..................

  • That song has nothing to do with World War II,what the hell?

  • Er, what did I miss about the war references. This has not a damn thing to do with kicking Nazis' asses or anything. How do the lyrics relate to WWII?

  • How the heck does this have anything to do with this song ? look we blew up those natzi bastards what else do you want ?

  • I love the piano! o0 <3 xd Jesus, I really love itttt !xd

  • Yes, sick story. What's more sick is the kind of background she came from. There were allegations (by neighbours) of sexual abuse by her father. When she was sent to a juvenile centre, her father married her room-mate once she was of age. Later, a parent of a child that was killed in the shooting actually spoke up for on the girl's behalf, knowing what kind of horror she had had to live with. This poignant, empathetic and sardonic track is a brilliant capture of a terrible story.

  • Actually, this song has nothing to do with Hitler, or WWII. It's about a young, 16-year-old girl who sniped out students in her local school-yard with a rifle. When she was asked why she did it, she responded with the sadistic comment, "I don't like Mondays."

Sick story, I know, but the Boomtown Rats did a great job of publicizing this event. Great song.

  • I do believe you are correct.

  • I love this song...Bob Geldoff was so hot in his day...

  • britain beat germany because they had this new invention, maybe youve heard of it,its called RADAR,the battle between britain and germany was all airborne considering the body of water between them, when hitler lost that air duel he got pissed and attacked russia but couldnt handle there large forces although they lacked in firepower, america was mostly dueling with japan for a majority of the war,i mean they did bomb us,so we mainy focused our attack on japan to get back at them.

  • hitler thought more highly of the british than the russians as a race. that is why he chose to not go through with operation sea lion and through with operation barbarossa.

  • the operation was canceled before the battle was over....

  • also, don't assume, it just makes an ass out of you

  • i always heard:

"don't assume because you will make an ass out of "u" and "me."

    isn't that right?

"u" and "me" are in "assume"

  • well you're right, but i'm not being an ass

  • Clearly you're a poorly educated yank. I'd agree with you to a point if you could you know, spell simple words like colour properly. unless of course you're Irish, then all i can say is "wheres ur taters at?"

  • Hey i'm Irish!! Haha

  • What's with the Hitler discussion?

    Good song.

  • Why is everything taking about WW2?????? Dicks... Great song!

  • What a bizarre set of comments here!

Personally, the American intervention was very welcome in WW2. Otherwise, my nan won't have married a G.I. and I wouldn't be here!

  • How about everyone just take a deep breath and step away from the keyboard.

But also this is a great song, love it.

  • and i meant won instead of one

  • He is right. The free french forces one more than one occasion .They were in the commandos, they helped liberate their homeland, and they showed they're not cowards. And without them in WW1 we wouldnt be able to even talk about ww2

  • Wow guys this video takes the cake for unrelated wikipedia article reciting in an aggressive, competitive format. I feel like I need to add something here.

"Oh boohoo you couldn't have saved us from WWII if we didn't exist to get rolled over in less than 2 months by the German armies."

To be fair though your countries are all so very very small that I'm sure it only takes a half-hour for a tank to drive from one side to the other anyways.

    (PS: maginot line)

  • quit fucking fighting and enjoy the video

  • So I don't completely flame this thread. Great song, and Bob Geldof is awesome. He organized Band Aid and Live Aid. Geldof is more of a humanitarian than Bono will ever be.

  • I don't understand how people could possibly bash each other over something that happened 70 years, and especially when non of you even experienced any of it. the only thing you can do is learn from it.

  • this was the first song of the band that i heard.

  • I'd like to learn this song on the piano.

  • me too

  • omg

    those guys look soooo crazy

  • "No wonder Bob Geldof is such an expert on world famine. Especially as he has been living off 'I don't like Mondays' for the past 30 years" - Russell Brand.

  • Geldof wrote the song after reading a telex report at Georgia State University's campus radio station, WRAS, on the shooting spree of 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer, who fired at children playing in a school playground across the street from her home in San Diego, California. She killed two adults and injured eight children and one police officer. Spencer showed no remorse for her crime, and her full explanation for her actions was "I don't like Mondays; this livens up the day."[

  • i hate mondays... the only good thing about 'em is when you come home :P

  • LOL

In Israel we start learn again on sunday so we call it DEPRESSED SUNDAY

  • I hate bloody Mondays, I feel shagged all day and don't recover til Friday.

  • Realy Good...!

  • this is YOUTUBE! if you're going to argue politically, argue on a video that has something to do with the topic. Jesus it's the boomtown rats, not the fucking history channel!

  • ''if it wasnt for the europeans americans would still be communicating by smoke signal''

  • I don't think the intro fits in w/ the song. It sounds too good.

  • I was gonna comment on the song, but reading some of these other comments I am intensely pissed off.

America: You didn't win the fucking second world war. Your contributions to the western front were an integral part of the overall victory, but this illusion you've created for yourself that you single-handedly defeated the Nazis just sickens me. It's self-deluded. There were over 200 divisions in the German army. You know how many were on the Western front? 1. All the others went into Russia.

  • I'm American and I agree with you totally.

  • @meticulator well i think there was a pacific front too but who am i to quote facts. I'm not trying to play the role of arrogant american but I'm relatively certain the Allies would have gotten their asses handed to them without our material and military aid. I;m not saying we won. In fact, America got off quite easily but don't attack us just because were proud of our involvement. The Allies won it may not have happened without American support. End of story. everyones even.

  • @TheQuietOne02

Russia drew the short straw but shouldn't have sided with Nazi Germany. This isn't directed at meticulator. He was right just stating facts

  • You'll have to forgive him, see, here in England we aren't allowed to be publicly proud of our involvement because it may offend minorities.

  • Hey I won't argue with you. FDR was pretty harsh in treating Churchill, telling him to give up your empire.

  • Riiiiiiiiight!

    Really we didn't win it?

If we didn't enter the war you would all be Goose stepping Nazis.

  • I prefer a Nazi then an american...

(thats not totaly treu, but I want to be clear...)

  • Holy...how did this song end up in a WWII tirade?

America, you didn't give a fuck about anything until Pearl Harbor. Maybe if you'd gave a shit you wouldn't have had to resort to dropping atomic bombs on Japan. And the only nation to have ever used nuclear weapons, I might add.

Does anyone wonder why the rest of the world hates Americans? If the U.S. was so integral to the resolution of WWII, why is it that Canada is praised on Remembrance Day?

  • fuck tha gooks if there gunna use gorilla warfare why cant we ps i know i didnt use the correct spelling for the word gorilla

  • if your going to say that you might has well f your mom you jerk >:( > :(

  • Your an idiot. Maybe if Great Britain hadn't stuck their head in the sand, and the French hadn't just caved in right off. WW II would have turned out different.

We only saved the world for the second time. Not even going to get into the Marshall Plan and the rebuilding of Europe. With people like you running around makes me wish we hadn't.

  • "Great Britain hadn't stuck their heads in the sand," Fuck you, the commonwealth stood for an entire year on our own, without backing down. You "saved the world for the second time" Yeah right, you only came into the Great War in 1917 because of American interests (and even then, you barely contributed a thing, unlike the Commonwealth and French forces), the same can be said for the second world war, american interests again with Pearl Harbour. without Europe america wouldn't be here today.

  • why are you arguing about this via youtube comments its so pointless go and have a hot bath.

  • Neville Chamberlain was an incompetent toad who let Hitler role over Europe without doing a fucking thing. Maybe if he had some balls Britain wouldn't have had to withstand being bombed to shit by the Nazis. Your asses would have lost WW I without us, late comers or not. You definitely would have been born a German citizen without us if we hadn't come in and saved you in WW II also. Hard apple to swallow, but all true you prick.

  • Fuck off. while i will fully accept that Chamberlain was an idiot, do you realise that without the Commonwealth and French forces in The Great War you wouldn't have even had a chance of "saving us in WWII,"? Which, by the way, you overestimate yourself doing anyway. We, the Commonwealth, and Free French forces destroyed just as much of the German war machine as you in WWII, if not more so. As you say, hard apple to swallow, but all true, prick.

  • Sorry if I sound rude here... but could you please fuck off and enjoy the video instead of bitching over WWII?

  • Bullshit one of the only reasons that Britain even made it through was Germany's arrogance. Germany had Britain at Dunkirk but someone stopped thinking for a second and let the German airforce try and eliminate them which didn't work. I'll give it to Britian for taking the bombing they took and for thier command of the skies but without America it is possible to say Europe would have been lost. Britain and America both saved France's ass however. Well them and Canada at D-Day.

  • @ECWExtremeist

Well, actually, the wwII was lost when Stalin invaded Germany, D-Day was pretty pointless, it only shortend the war, but the Germans was still Doomed.

  • Yeah in the seance of ending the war but had France by completely taken who knows they might have been able to take Britain which would give Germany a better chance to beat Russia.

  • Hm, Germany had the whole France, but failed to take Britain because Hitler was bad at planning the attack. I don't say that D-Day was bad, it was good because it ended the war, but the war would have ended the same way still. On the other hand, the things US did in the Pacific was verry good, the stopped the imperial forces from taking the entire ocean and brought democracy to Japan, and that was a verry good thing.

  • Guys, just stop arguing,we all know world be a better place if Hitled had won over USA and Britain, the jewish held lands... Rotshield has a direct link to english queen, nothing more doesnt need to be said...

  • yes brave americans do you think that us english helped out a little o no i forgot american won the war all on there own

  • Matty is only able to call Americans fat in English instead of German because a bunch of fat Americans died so he could.

    You're welcome, you little ingrate.

  • Fine by me - I remember the incident, though never heard the song before since it was banned in the US. Sic, sic sic

  • I'm with Kissinger. Depopulate the globe.

    Go team USA!

  • thx!!!

  • This is what all the lads from work sing to me all the time! do know why tho :P

  • It's kind of sad that people forget great songs like this ^_^

  • the beggining looks like Kamelot's Love you to death..

LOL i love this song i saw it yesterday i just love it

  • he video is very English for a song about yet one more American psycho with a gun, isnt it?

They should have gotten some obese kids for hte video and swapped the boaters for a few McDonalds tshirts. That would have been more realistic and explained that the reason Brenda managed to shoot so many is becasue they are so much bigger targets than brit kids.

  • except that at this time people werent as huge as they are today. honestly, im kind of embarrassed for my country because of all the gluttony.. but anyway, this song is amazing.

  • well yeah, fair point, Reedtarded, i was just taking the piss anyway. :)

That said, i'm surprised the bloated yet oh so sensitive (presumably american) wankers who gave me neg rep could reach the mouse button without hyperventilating. Impressive.

Well done you 2, was that your exercise for the week? Go and have a Big Mac to reward yourselves. Go on. You know you want to.

  • you're confused, i take it you haven't actually been here. you may be talking about some states i haven't been to. the us is a diverse country, matty. i'm in california, fit as a fiddle, looking around me and i see a health conscious population.

  • Have you ever thought that this song doesn't have to have any meanings? It's just a song ffs....

  • Errmm.....it is about the 16 years old girl shooting school kids, it's no secret.

  • lol you made me laugh XDD your so right. i...kinda like the song, its catchy X3 its kinda taking it to the extreme shootng people because she didnt like mondays...weird o.o

  • ive heard 3 different explanations for this song. 15 year old goes nuts and shoots classmates, elementry teacher shoots students on the playground, and 16 year old shoots from bedroom. which is it for hells sake?!

  • its the 3rd one i think.

  • the 3rd, 16 year old girl shoots from her bedroom on a playground from elementary school and when they asked her why she did it she said: i don't like mondays, this livens up the day

  • when a 16 yearold girl shot her principal and others from her bedroom window across the road into a school she went too. when police came, her explanation was, i dont like mondays, this livens up the days, she got a 25 year scentence, she has done the 25 years and is applying for parole right now

  • Comment removed

  • She was denied, wont' be eligible for 10 years now.

  • this was the first single I bought in 1979!

  • Bucky and Big are correct. This song was not banned and was actually a pretty big hit for them. I remember listening to it. The story behind it was known back then.

  • doctorwhofan747, better check your facts mate - what makes you think this (or any) song is "banned in america"?

  • i'm just saying what my drama teacher told me. i'm so sorry i didn't get it perfect for you.

  • we have to discuss what happened in our drama lessons and basically what happened is: a 16 year old girl in america shot 10 people from her bedroom window and when she was asked why she did it, she just replied "I don't like Monday's" and nobody knows why she did it and this song is actually banned in america.

  • This song was never banned the the USA

  • sorry.

  • If I recall correctly, the actual shooting took place in somewhere in Southern California. San Diego, I think. ( ? ) I think we expect, if not accept that a very small percentage of disturbed boys will be violent little monsters. But NOT 16 year old girls. This incident shook up most of the U.S. and Europe. I disagree that Geldof was trying to exploit the incident. I think it really disturbed him as much as it did the rest of us. Unfortunately, the video conveys none of that.

  • I'm in the disagree category that this is an exploitation of the tradgedy as well. As to the video, the song was written by Bob Geldof, performed by The Boomtown Rats and the video director was Philip Neil Wainman who has the most to do with the feel of the video. Any intentions by Mr Geldof are pretty much null by the time we get to the video. That's why I don't think this video is an accurate representation of his intentions.

  • This song is an exploitation of tragedy (at least the lyrics are). I would hope the profits that have accrued to UMG and Mr. Geldof from the song are being put to good use.

  • I disagree. Although this video seems to have little connection to the subject matter of the song, the song was not written to exploit the actual shooting that occured. I think Geldof was truly disturbed, as most of us were, by the real incident in 1979. It is shocking to have a 16 old GIRL pick up a high powered rifle and just start shoting at kids in the playground. The explaination of why she did it was simply bizarre and disturbed folks up as much as the incident itself. Just senseless.

  • xixijh: Bob was making a social statement on the incident. There is nothing wrong in that. Thats what art in its true form does.

  • I thought the whole episode happed in London, England. "But whatever"! Anyhoot: My Insight is...

Does the Media influence Copy-Cat'ers as a result?

  • man he was cute

  • if this song is from 1979 why is it categorized as an 80s song instead of a 70s song? I have the same question for Video Killed the Radio Star.

  • yeah, technically it's 70s, but it was New Wave and still close enough to the 80s MTV era to have videos and be influencial. There were other songs that sucessfully bridged the decade, such as "Psycho Killer" (Talking Heads), "Rock Lobster" (B-52s), "Heart of Glass" (Blonde), "Pump it Up" (Elvis Costello), "Just What I needed" (Cars), "My Sharona" (The Knack), "Cars" (Gary Numan), "Roxanne" (Police) and "Is She Really Going out with Him?" (Joe Jackson).

  • LOVE IT

  • I used to watch this on a free video my dad got off McEwans Lager, anyone else have that and it had loads of cracking music on it? It had INXS Need you tonight and Goldy and Creme Cry? I loved it

  • pomóż chłopcu o balonowej głowie odnalesc swoich przyjaciol i obronic krolestwo przed gigantycznymi zabami.

  • great irish band

  • May I remind folks that people have done worse crimes than this and walking free now the Jamie bulger case 2 evil children kidnapped him and mutilated his body and left him to die on a train track hoping to hide what they done are now walking free with protected identities nows thats sick

  • Respectfully, the boys who killed James Bulger were ten years old when they did it. TEN. I'm not saying that ten-year-olds are too young for punishment and incarceration, but I have no problem opining that a life sentence for a ten year old child would be cruel.

  • soz but i dont get what you mean what does it have to do with the song.i dont really get the song!

  • The Song Is After An Episode In The United States. A 16 Year Old Brenda Ann Spencer Fired At Children Playing In The School Playground With A Big Gun.

When The Police Afterwoods Asked Her, Why She Did It, She Just Answered: 'I Don't Like Mondays'. It Was Based On A True Story It Happened In On January 29, 1979

  • They mention it in an episode of The West Wing; Twenty Hours In America, I think it was. Josh says "It's Monday", for some reason, and Donna starts talking about the song and the story behind it. Later in the episode, they play a cover of the song underneath a segment about a bombing at a school.

  • A big gun? Wow so many details..

  • and then 20 years later we got Columbine and 28 year later VA Tech

  • shoulder pads : )

This is a great song, but can we please remember that "Saint Bob" Is just a rockstar. He's not Jesus, he's Bob Geldof.

  • sure the man has done some dodgy sh*t but name any rockstar that hasnt the main thing is he is trying to make a difference in the world....plus the man was FRIKKEN AWESOME IN THE WALL

  • jawesome

  • :D I LOVE THIS SONG!

  • You arses make me sick and its Sir Bob he has helped so many starving people who cant help themselves lets go have more babies so they can starve too its stupid we do care but had enough who helps uk no one

  • I'm sorry. I just thought the joke was funny. I in no way meant to imply that Bob Geldolf is not a true humanitarian. To be honest I don't know a huge amount about him other than his connection to Live Aid, and this song. Please excuse me. I'm an American girl and wasn't yet born when he was at his peak popularity! Sorry:)

  • Okies at the end of the day Brenda was a child I agree no guns but having instability is not right too but why should she be in prison for the rest of her life not right

  • i have a link with bob geldof

  • Brenda Spencer. Nice girl. Opened fired with rifle on a bunch of innocent school children. She was 16 years old. And still in prison over 30 years later. What a waste.

  • she was properly taking drugs,

  • very good song

  • Comment removed

  • sad story behinds

  • so dark and creepy.

  • Great song. Sad story behind it. Know wonder Geldoff knows so much about famine. His lived off this song for the last 20 years.

  • Sorry, accidentally clicked on this, since it was on my favorites, and I have to say that was funny as all hell! Hats off:)

  • I bet his part in The Wall helped him survive more-so.

Your statement about famine is stolen and misquoted....

In 2006 while presenting the NME Awards, Russell Brand made the joke, "Really, it's no surprise he's (Geldof) such an expert on famine, he has after all been dining out on 'I Don't Like Mondays' for thirty years". This was a response to Geldof calling him a "cunt"

  • a very catchy, crazy cool song. but the story behind it is very disturbing!!

    Google: Brenda Ann Spencer

  • Finaly someone who gets it =]
