I have just began ENT-B. I have been a FR for four months. You haven't even scratched the surface yet. Knowing the body and fiction will help a lot. Terminology, proper procedures, law, and advanced treatments will carry you further than FR. I love it. It's hard, but with it. Good luck.
Alright, so I'm going into emt training soon, and I have a question that anyone who has emt training could probably answer. I've been a lifeguard for about 4 years (started when I was around 15/16 and I'm 20 now) But anyway I am a certified first responder because of this and I was just wondering if this gives me any kind of head-start? and is there anyone out there nice enough to take the time to give me an I idea of what I should already know before going into it?
Interesting to see in the comments that people are saying the classes are stressful. I haven't taken the classes yet (will be next month though!) but I heard from pre-med forums that the training isn't too bad (actually easy). I don't know what to expect now.
After i graduate from high school in under two weeks i'm taking a National Registry course for EMT 1-B training at Orange Coast College, a community college here in southern California, and then i can take the national registry after i pass the course. I'm stoked and a little nervous but i'm glad this information is available! Thank you
@hetnerd - it depends on the school you go to. for mine, i paid a little over $1,500 for all four classes and all of the uniforms and equipment that was required. But at my school, you go through the classes for 1 semester and as long as you pass then you get to take the national registry exam (which is another $70 for me) and if you pass that then you get to be licensed in whatever state you are in. but in the end, im sure saving peoples lives is so worth the stress you endured in the classes.
I have been on and off (going to through a different major now in college) as an EMT-B for about 3 years. I loved doing what I did and still do! To be able to save someones life when you see them at their worst or best is an unmatched, unparalleled feeling that never stops amazing me! In knowing that I have saved someone who could one day be of great importance to the USA then I am all for it and encourage people out there to take a CPR class of sorts so you can be prepared. You never know!!
FYI for anyone taking the EMT basic written exam thru PSIexams.com they are'nt state affiliated. also do not reimburse you if you cancell a test or miss a test.So you could pay $55.00 for every test taken. You only get 3 chances and then you have to take another emt course again.I missed test because of my job demands they counted that as one of my test attempts. So I only have 2 shots left. They were rude as hell on the phone 2 me and I spoke to 3 diffrent operators.Be warned register by phone
Here there are colleges that offer the EMT course which takes a semester or two, not fully certain. There is also private companies that offer EMT courses. I'm lucky where I am, EMS service here has a EMT-B course that is only 4 weeks long, fastest one I have seen.
@Dragill Yeah, that was months ago when I made that comment. I was fascinated by technology at that time. I've changed my way of thinking since then. I agree with what you said. You need to be hands-on and find out exactly what is going on. Well, until something like the Star Trek tricorder gets invented.
A good way to get respirations on an alert patient is to take their pulse and then fold the arm across their chest. The patient will think you are taking their pulse and breath normally. Then after 30 seconds when you get the pulse you can use the other 30 to feel the chest rise and fall.
haha pick another job choice... i am a emt-P..... its a wastse of life.... working 50-65 hours a week... most of the calls are bullshit.. Then you have the nasty ones that keep you up at night... and you become sucidal.... I still cant get over me letting that 8 year old girl die.. i tried my best but failed.. things like that are horrible... So get a desk job a wife and never go thourgh that... why couldnt that girl live
@anthony21222 Well im about to go school for becoming a EMT and i see some of the things you have said. Not thats it going to stop me but U say you have seen some of the nasty ones, can u explain? And did u get help from seeing that 8 yr old girl die?
@anthony21222 calm down man dont go off discouraging people from doing something they want just because you couldnt handle certain situations you went through as an emt-p
@43FIRERESCUE43 what is recommended for someone before they take the emt b class? because im a junior in hs if i dnt go to college this is mi second choice
do whatever you want to do in life, but still go to college! if you dont go to college itll be a big mistake! be the best at whatever your passionate about, and the only way to do that is to get a degree! they offer degrees in fire sciences and paramedicine, look into it..
@lordice123 I didn't say that did i? i don't know where u r from but out here only colleges offer EMT training. No u don't get an AS or BA degree but u get a certification and then u apply for the EMT license.
@winnryautomail you said "technically you have to go to college to be an EMT" I concurred and said BUT it is not the same value as getting a BA or an AS in something, even if it is still within EMS, and I am from california.
@lordice123 Just because you take a course in college does not mean you are gonna get ANY type of degree -__- So don't assume just because I said you have to go to college to be an EMT that you will automatically get a BA OR AS. And no duh its not the same as a BA or AS, I didn't even say it was. So stop jumping to conclusions to make yourself appear smart, cause its not working.
Thanks..It was kinda boring, but VERY imformative.. I plan on hitting up an EMT-Basic class as soon as I turn 16 in September! Message me for any tips or anything please!!! Im very shy when it comes to learning new things..I need a smuch heads-ups as you can give.
Why do egos colide when it comes to things like this ...I am amazed to see such unprofessional comments on an item like this...whats wrong with this world. WELL DONE and thank you for sharing this valuable video... You others shold be ashamed.!
oh iv done it... also when i was putting on a Ked i have told them "my baby looks hot tonight" one of the many saying i was taught to remember what order to do up the straps... you get some pretty funny looks for saying that...

See, the Firefighters told me you classify responsiveness in numbers.
Since this video is kinda old, I'll assume that what they told me is correct.
Still, it's nice having information like this available.

@DVDluvr123 you should count the pulse anyway, otherwise you'll have no idea about the rhythm and character.
