  • Guys I have to say,I'm a MASSIVE Dan fan & that was THE BEST I've come across on YOUTUBE of ANY band covering a DAN song. That was just FANTASTIC.....Well done;-)

  • I loved the original but I totally love this version !

    Absolutely Fantastic !

  • I love your version of Haitian Divorce. I am a huge Steely Dan fan, and I like the way you guys play this song better than Donald and Walter (please no offense to the SD geniuses!)

  • Fantastic

  • Very good my friend! Well done!

  • Incredibly good guitar player.

  • Liked the voice box and arrangments, very impressive but the strength and beauty of it is diluted by those weak inane vocals . Donald Fagan's phrasing on this track is what gives it it's bite and the music compliments this. Here it serves to highlight how inadequate the vocals actually are ! Shame to go to all that trouble to cover this and nearly get it right and not nail it !

  • absolutely correct

  • brilliant!

  • Congratulations.....Great Job on the cover....It ranks with the original....Love the talk box work that Hank does on this number....Thanx for the post.....

  • omg, awesome cover band but the 80's were painful still!!!

  • I LOVE that song, great cover!

  • first 30 seconds i thought it's just fake and lip synced. absolutely perfect!

  • Excellent !!!

  • WoW! This a very great & close version of one of the greatest songs ever

    The guitar is AWESOME!

  • An amazing cover especially Hank... The vocal is a little soft for my taste, needs a bit more attitude and less prettiness.

  • is that Anna Nicole Smith?

  • Exceptional cover! Talkbox is perfect! Thanks!

  • WOW..... great. loved it. I know this song all the way. and you sounded perfect. Great singing and guitar. loved it. Great band! True professions

  • I have owned a voice box for many years (longer than I can remember actually!) and have always wanted to learn this particular song but never got around to it. My claim to fame was using it for Peter Frampton's Show me the way. Having watched this, it's given me some inspiration to brush off the cobwebs and go for it. You are great band and the guitarist does you credit. Where's your gig/tour guide?

  • You guys are great. How did you get Kirstie Alley to sing lead for you?

  • I didn't realize Kirstie Allie sang in a band. sounds nice.

  • What a tight band, the best Steeley Dan cover ever.

  • Superb!!!!!

  • Spot on! One of the best covers I've seen on YouTube. Nice job with the guitar work...even a very similar tone.

  • Awesome just like the recording!

  • Damn what an amazing cover...I wish I was in this band

  • Just when you think that it could make you weep, knowing that you will never find a video clip of Larry Carlton playing that solo with the talkbox... then what better to find this. This is superb. It baffles me how Don and Walter haven't drafted Hank Easton in. Love the bit in the closing solo where he gives the band a shout with the "Do you like The Damned?" Tremendous. Thank you Hank.

  • Love it!

  • Bravo!

  • excellent version tasty guitar work very close to original damn good singer but shite hair style !!!

  • I love it...but those pants are scarrrrrry!

  • Yeah, these are are near flawless performing.

  • wow, what a great performance. i would have loved to have seen this live, but i wasn't even in high school yet. the guitarist, lead singer, and horns got the song exactly right.

  • Nice.... I'll bet Dean Parks would approve.

  • u are KILLIN on this!!!!!!!!: last night or a few nghts, steely dan did hatian divorse w/o the talkbox- jon harrington bs'd his way thru it w/ a wah-wah-pedal-effect.... PS: i prob. was AT this concert!!!!!

  • F & B should ship this guy in for this track, their recent live renditions of which seem only to have disappointed (and worse) the Dan officionados

  • This is very cool!

    Thanks for posting hank!

    Rg

  • Wow...Blast from the past! I remember that night clearly...shoulda moved aside for Hanks mastery!...I love you too lowflyers ; )

  • better than the original? get the fuck out of here its good, dont get me wrong but not better

  • Comment removed

  • Club band!

Great strings and good rythm section.

    Bag? Hurts my teeth!

    Thanks for this post.

  • Bon Marche' ! I like it very much!!!!

  • Boy George sings Steely Dan! lol The band nailed it.

  • And Farah Fawcett is back!

  • I thought it was Kim Basinger

  • looked just like her lol

  • I love you Angel O'Brien

  • lol..!!! that was so Goooooooooooood!

  • better than the original ,i mean ,i was a bit pissed when i wrote that!

  • stop and think b4 u start to act

  • better the the original!!!

  • Yeah, you guys make it look easy...it ain't easy!

  • Loved it!! You nailed it completely!!

  • Starry Night Blues Band loves The STEELY DAMNED .... wow, fabulous !!!

  • Not too bad, the beginning was spot on.

  • hank you're really an inspiration

  • fuckin dead on that begining , i couldnt tell the diff bravo

  • Excellent treatment of one of Steely Dan's finest (and weirdest) compositions. I would imagine it's a tough one to sing with its unconventional melodic line, abrupt key changes and Steely Dan's famously jazz-informed chords, not to mention the talk box and other effects. You're a very tight band with truckloads of chops all around.

    Peace,

    Toby

  • they're actually pretty good.

  • I've been playing SD on guitar for 30 years and always thought I did a great job...until now. Hats off to you Hank. This is the best SD cover band hands down. If Jon Herington gives up his spot you should be prepared for a phone call from Don and Walter.

  • Lead guitarist is gifted but band layout is all wrong. Backing singers should be in the background or to the side. Lead should be out front and centre. Band is tight though.

  • what a critic

  • they were smart put the hottie up front and the talented guy in the back

  • Simply grand! All the way around, such wonderful nuance and detail on everyone's part.

But I agree with h.b.; as a guitar player I kept wishing the blonde singer would have moved aside - at least for the solo. Her head happened to be in the way for all the important licks. Or was that to trade your guitarists trade secrets? ;o)

Yall do Only a Fool Would say that or Dr. Wu?

  • Very nice! I think the lead should be stage front the dolly birds in back.

    Thanks for this.

  • LOL! Thank you!!

  • WOW! Great job! What a hard band to cover, too. Steely Damned, never would've thought of it, nice.

  • Fantastic ! better than the original imho !!!!

  • Nice.

  • What a great rendition of this awesome song! you guys nailed it perfectly! Great job..

  • Fantastic guitaring! Note perfect!!

  • Easton nailed it! Great band and awesome rendition!

  • This is SO AWESOME!!! Actually my favorite video on YouTube. Hank studied, practiced, and worked hard to be able to work his kind of magic.

Peter Frampton, eat your heart out!

  • That is some of my favorite guitar work ever, and Hank nailed it. I think Donald will be calling you if Jon Herington can't make the next tour!

  • I keep coming back to this video, rather than listen to the original album version. You guys totally nailed it. Bob's vocals are just great; he even gets the little rasp in the line "the band was hot so." He must have worked at that. The horns and backing vox are perfectly supporting and beautifully mixed. Hank's playing and control of the talk box are just awesome, and the coda brings the song over the top. Absolutely spot on.

  • Amazing Guitar!! Seriously hot chick on the left... WOW!!

  • My favorite Steely Dan song sung by my old friend Bob Tedde! You rock!

  • Fantastic - what a fabulous band and cover. The guitarist is amazing. Wonderful control and superb playing and voice box technique. Just wish I had half that talent. Congratulations to the whole band on a magical performance. Thank you for the video.

  • That was totally spectacular. My favourite Steely Dan song. I even thought you were just playing the actual song over the video at first. Great cover, flawless!

  • Been a diehard Dan fan since '72, but I doubt they ever played this song live as well as this band. Just curious, Hank, how much stamina does it take to make it through this song from beginning to end?

  • absolutely unbelievable performance!!!! i hate to be sacriligious toward the the Dan but

your performance arguably sounds as good or better the the studio version. one of the best covers i have ever heard. keep up the good work. thanks.

  • Absolutely spot on Hank. You have to play the UK

  • The guitarist actually adds to the song. I have NEVER heard anyone that could actually add value to any Steely Dan song. Even Don and Walt goes through countless guitarists to make their music sound right (even on a single song). You're a great live guitarist. Rock on!!!!

  • Ejoyed ... great cover

  • No way Hank... I recently started playing some of my old Steely Dan... and as it turns out Haitian Divorce is my absolute favorite. This is one of the best covers of S. Dan I've heard... very disciplined band. Btw, I've got the Ibanez version of 335 too... great workhorse... consistent and versatile.

  • very nice, sound coulda been better but overall damn good, guys

  • thats anna nichole in the band

  • Ok - I'll put it down to an old guy's delusion!!! Please apologise to her for my indescretion!! Now- its all about the music - I listened to some of your other stuff as well the band is bloody good - The guitarist has a great feel and sound - the Girls and other singers terriffic (not just beautiful!!! ) Are you getting the sound off the desk? Are you getting it remixed before putting it on You Tube - I look forward to seeing and hearing more !!!! Cheers from Blasty from OZ

  • This clip was 2 track off the board. I've got the whole night on DVD but most of the guitar is not loud enough because of my stage volume. The other clips were from 2 mic's in the house. Glad you like them. Thanks, Hank

  • I gotta know ---Is Angel O'Brien a nom de plume for Erika Elniak !!???

  • No as far as I know she is an has always been Angel O'Brien

  • A brilliant rendition - I reckon you guys eclipse Sydneys "Bodacious cowboys" !!! hey is your back up singer Erika Elniak ???? she sure looks like her - but I couldn't be sure cos shes got clothes on !! Good looking thats for sure !!! Cheers Blasty

  • congratulations! excellent! version.

  • yeah dean parks did the solo and walter becker added the talkbox effect later on in mixing!

  • i think dean parks added the talkbox effect at the mixing stage on the original song...that must have took a lot of work hank!..well done..

  • hank, SPEACHLESS !!!!!

  • Damn, that is so......Steely!

  • Awesome cover! This a difficult Dan tune to cover properly and you nailed it. Soooooo many chord changes! Oh BTW, I just fell in love with your blonde (female) vocalist.

  • Great vocal and band performance.

Peter Frampton had that talkbox sound on his SHOW ME THE WAY hit - copy on youtube.

  • Love it! Love it! Love it!

Can some bright spark explain to me how that guitar sound is produced?

    Thx

  • You take a speaker motor the part that makes the paper cone vibrate and you stuff a tube in it so the sound travels up the tube and into the guitarists mouth. So the guitar now becomes his vocal chords and he uses his mouth to make all the vowel sound AAhhhhhhhhhhh, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, oooooooooooooo etc. He has to play into a micro phone and through the P.A. This guy really nails it. Spot on. Note for note. Even nails the tone. Pretty impressive.

  • So talented man !

  • excellent!

  • that was freaking amazing hank. ive got to head over the mountain to see you guys soon...

  • Infreakincredible ,great all around. Im a huge steely dan fan and that was awesome. LOVED IT.

  • They haven't played the Cat in several years by my reckoning. Hank, any info on the date of this clip?

  • 1995. That room is now a day spa!

  • great vid! great talkbox guitar, so like the album version, why the outfit though haha

  • Hank. You were right. Your pants were really something. I think I was at this gig at the Cannibal Bar.

  • ....then you might remember one of the funniest lines ever spoken from a musician to a sound engineer....."Can you please pull down Hank's pants in my monitor!"

(I was the engineer) It was said by Mark, the keyboard player.
