100% correct, this is the real deal. My stiletto fighting system "San Michele" is a dueling system. He is talking about an knife "Attack" and there is a BIG difference. A total all out savage knife attack is almost impossible to defend against. Kudos for a reality based teaching.
@scrambiano In fact studies have shown that in 98% of instances knife attacks are done from the side or behind, without the victim knowing about it..and often they know the attacker. Again studies and the resultant stats show that if an attacker takes you face on and holds a knife out in threatening manner, he is most likely not going to use it. Perhaps knife defence training is relevant but chances are you'll only get to efectively use it in 2% of cases. Not very good odds.
@LCStreetPhotographer Where r the #s coming from? They sound high, unless they are compiled from a prison.
In all my courses, I focus a lot on situational awareness as the 1st line of self defense. If your #s are accurate, then 98% of attacks could be defended by just looking @ the threat.
I agree that when a knife is displayed to a victim by a threat that it's usually a threat display. Problem is when an overconfident, poorly trained guy gets cocky & provokes an attack.
This is the realist ish I've seen so far. These vids with a dude showing some move against some guy whos barely moving, then submits when the instructor does the technique are a joke. That ish will get you killed for real! Nice work sir! Thanks.
fantastic explanation of the reality of a knife attack, and no, i'm no expert. but i do have students and i teach them that if a blade is involved they will mostly likely never see it, and if they do it's coming in hard as can be over hand with a kitchen knife or screwdriver if they are lucky or its "pop pop pop " prison style to the gut. its a no win scenario but there are ways to increase survival and they involve listening to folks like this who know what it's like. run run run..
Of the multitudes of video that I have watched on you tube of people meeting their end on video none have made me flinch as much as this guy conveying the reality of a knife fight and how scary that would be to meet your end that in a fit of fear, panic, and rage.
I like how Bae fully and intently describes the realistic philosophy of a knife fight. I appreciate the fact that he Doesn't just-show-moves to demonstrate things that you "can" do like the billions of other knife videos on youtube. He gives it clean and clear that you will get cut, but at least evokes the path of minimal resistance. Two thumbs up....
this is about the only video on the whole of youtube that's realistic about knife defense. Hey, there are still reasonable people out there! Good to know
I have posted this to freinds and on Facebook. I have freinds with martial arts training and those with concealed carry permits.they couldn't stop this attack let alone if from behind! pepper spray in hand would be better than a holstered weapon.I stay away from bad places having grown up in one and dealing with punks my whole life.some people don't have a choice.bad can be anywhere! not every threat looks like one! (Ted Bundy) sad we live in that world but be suspicious! trust can kill you!
In all of my 39 yrs. in over 11 different martial art styles this is one of the few true representations of what a knife fight is all about. In my class this is just the way I teach it. A real knife fight seldom if ever occurs. Generally its not a FIGHT, it's an ASSASINATION. Thanks for posting some reality for a change and keep up the great work.
This guy is perfect. He's hardcore for a hardcore situation. Some idiots might think he looks silly but in my opinion his enthusiasm conveys the intensity of a life and death fight better than a guy speaking in monotone
There are too many people teaching self defense that does NOT work in real situations. This guy swears alot to re-create the setting of a fight. It's savage and nasty, and quick. All those moves practiced in the gym are out of your head when somebody is raging and in your shit like a fast moving train out of nowhere. This guy is trying to teach reality situations, where people use bad language as they are killing you and your loved ones. PAY ATTENTION!
I've been doing this sort of training for years, I have to say this guy's video is one of the best I have seen, real skill in a realistic situation, its very good to see the dangerous myths dispelled. "Do this and it always disarms" style bullshit....he is right no one technique works in a real situation.
He does appear to be passionate about self defense! I think all the cussing really imparts the violence and brutality of a knife fight, its not pretty, its not zen, its not art its the oldest game in town; survival.
@Enjoi7865 He speaks like he does because he has a HUGE passion for what he is teaching, BUT he needs the verbal obscenity skills that can only be mastered while serving in the Marines, Navy SEALS or Army Ranger units ;-D As a member of these services we will teach you to use all of your obscenities as all eight parts of speech. The real pro's can even use a single obsenity as an adjunct phase.
-some cool stuff here.
