wheeling is wheeling, any 4x4 can be good in the hands of a good driver. granted some do have more potential than others, and some are better from the factory, but the old yotas are great project trucks, there are some crazy yota builds out there, just cuz they're jap doesnt mean they suck. and a duramax would be terrible in the mud, too big, too heavy, too long a wheel base.
I don't see why people think toyotas are so great. His tires were barely even in the sand and his truck couldn't even spin the tires he had to put it in 4wd. My stock chevy made it out fine with regular street tires in 2wd.

hummers are junk they are to heavy and cant go anywhere. i have a 2010 tacoma off road edition with the lockers and i garuntee i can go farther than any hummer or jeep. the only thing i wish toyota would do with the tacomas now a days is put a sas in them.(SOLID FRONT AXLE). @loku8507 Ok, I am biased, I have a 1984 4runner. I like them because they have a stout drivetrain right from the factory pre 1985 models are solid axle truks, and if you get a land cruiser everything up to the FJ80s are too. Some of the guys in my club have killer 80's and they are getting cheeper.
The pickups and 4runners are narrow and can follow a jeep anywhere, and have a longer wheelbase for better stability when climbing. Aftermarket for toyota stuff is good too. Google marlin crawler
I dont understand why people buy toyotas. Just get an ATV, they have more power then the toyotas, are more capable, faster, and get better milage. its not like you can tow or haul in a toyota 4cyl truck anyway. WTF
@DJMaxatax, i would think it would be much more pleasnt to tow the ATV,s to a wheeling spot in a nice real truck, then use the more capable ATV's to play. I would rather drive an ATV on the road then a toyota anyway, much more fun.
@123abcpa Sorry to say that ATVs are not that capable. I had to pull one out that broke trying follow me in my mildly modified Yota. I have had an ATV flip over backwards trying to follow me up a ledge due to its short wheel base...

@meithkiller, i belive that ATVs are more capable. at least at most thing, such as winding trails, sand, loose rock, STREET AND FREEWAY DRIVING. most ATVs are faster than toyota trucks and much more fun and economical too. The ATV has more advantages then diadvantages over a toyota pickup. ATVs probley tow more too.

I agree there are advantages in favor of the ATV off-road but if you go wheeling in an organized off-road park the most difficult trails are marked for OHVs such as Toyota trucks, Jeeps and others but ATVs are banned from these trails.

@meithkiller, i haven been wheeling in a while, here a list of trucks iv owend in the past 6 years, Ford Bronco full size 1989, ford Bronco2 1989 4x4, Toyota 4Runner 1989(least favorite so far),Toyota pickup 1979 4x4(well built truck but boaring as hell), Chevy suburban 1988 4x4, Nissan Pathfinder1993 XE 5speed 4x4(my favorite so far) Ford expedition Sport, 2003 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 5speed 4x4. The toyotas are well built but god thay are boaring and cant tow shit, low reange for a 2000lb trailer
@meithkiller,ididnt wheel the expedition, just for people hauling. got rid of it because it was kinda crappy on gas and i didnt care for the 5.4 power. it towed good but wasnt very spirited otherwise. My Pathfinder was my favorite, it strange because my 4runner had the 3.0 V6 150HP and the Pathfinder was a 3.0 155HPbut the nissan felt sooo much better. another friend of mine had a1992 4runner with the same 3.0 and it sucked on power too. my 79 yota had the 20R couldnt get out of its own way.
@123abcpa Dude! You got stuck with the 3. slow Yota motor and I will admit that even though the 22R is bullet proof it does lack power. Gearing will make up for lack of power off-road but the newer Yota motors fix the power problem and the drivetrain is still very strong with plenty of gearing options to boot. Good to know your opinions come from actual experience rather than keyboard wheeling...
@meithkiller, when i had my 79 yota i thought about putting a chev 350 in it but never found the time. a toyota with a real moter would be fun, plus the only toyota trucks i like the looks of is the 79 to 83. the new ones with the 4.0 have good power but seem to me to be much cheaper build quality then the older ones.

hummers are junk they are to heavy and cant go anywhere. i have a 2010 tacoma off road edition with the lockers and i garuntee i can go farther than any hummer or jeep. the only thing i wish toyota would do with the tacomas now a days is put a sas in them.(SOLID FRONT AXLE). I used to have a 78 ford with 9 inches of suspension lift with a 514 big block and positive traction in all four and my tacoma would walk all over that thing anyday . deff toyota FTMFW

@loku8507 Ok, I am biased, I have a 1984 4runner. I like them because they have a stout drivetrain right from the factory pre 1985 models are solid axle truks, and if you get a land cruiser everything up to the FJ80s are too. Some of the guys in my club have killer 80's and they are getting cheeper.
The pickups and 4runners are narrow and can follow a jeep anywhere, and have a longer wheelbase for better stability when climbing. Aftermarket for toyota stuff is good too. Google marlin crawler

@meithkiller, i belive that ATVs are more capable. at least at most thing, such as winding trails, sand, loose rock, STREET AND FREEWAY DRIVING. most ATVs are faster than toyota trucks and much more fun and economical too. The ATV has more advantages then diadvantages over a toyota pickup. ATVs probley tow more too.

I agree there are advantages in favor of the ATV off-road but if you go wheeling in an organized off-road park the most difficult trails are marked for OHVs such as Toyota trucks, Jeeps and others but ATVs are banned from these trails.

@meithkiller, i haven been wheeling in a while, here a list of trucks iv owend in the past 6 years, Ford Bronco full size 1989, ford Bronco2 1989 4x4, Toyota 4Runner 1989(least favorite so far),Toyota pickup 1979 4x4(well built truck but boaring as hell), Chevy suburban 1988 4x4, Nissan Pathfinder1993 XE 5speed 4x4(my favorite so far) Ford expedition Sport, 2003 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 5speed 4x4. The toyotas are well built but god thay are boaring and cant tow shit, low reange for a 2000lb trailer

@meithkiller,ididnt wheel the expedition, just for people hauling. got rid of it because it was kinda crappy on gas and i didnt care for the 5.4 power. it towed good but wasnt very spirited otherwise. My Pathfinder was my favorite, it strange because my 4runner had the 3.0 V6 150HP and the Pathfinder was a 3.0 155HPbut the nissan felt sooo much better. another friend of mine had a1992 4runner with the same 3.0 and it sucked on power too. my 79 yota had the 20R couldnt get out of its own way.

@123abcpa Dude! You got stuck with the 3. slow Yota motor and I will admit that even though the 22R is bullet proof it does lack power. Gearing will make up for lack of power off-road but the newer Yota motors fix the power problem and the drivetrain is still very strong with plenty of gearing options to boot. Good to know your opinions come from actual experience rather than keyboard wheeling...

@meithkiller, when i had my 79 yota i thought about putting a chev 350 in it but never found the time. a toyota with a real moter would be fun, plus the only toyota trucks i like the looks of is the 79 to 83. the new ones with the 4.0 have good power but seem to me to be much cheaper build quality then the older ones.
