In the New England area, Route 44 is said to have paranormal activity, but that is the more famous one as there are several others said to have spectres.
@Spookypalooza There may have been other ( now obliterated ) tracks in the area, but the path of the Roman road runs on the west side of the bypass, while this video is taken on Tillingdown Lane on the east side, not far from the secret location of the derelict haunted cottages - oops!
I have driven the A22 from Purley to Polgate for 20 years,Day & night and have never seen any Paranormal event,same goes for the A21,A23,A29 A259 and nearly every road between the A3-A21 from the coast to the south circ (A205) in London... This also includes UFOs or any event that can not be explained .
I must say - I saw it on holiday once. No idea what it was until I got to a wi-fi point. creepy.

That was fun! I'm on Google Earth looking at where you were. Old roman road near there which may have been the path you were on.
