Ok you just show us how much fun this can be after mapping and configuring Traktor Pro and the APC40. Now, where is the step by step video to make all of this happen? How mapping is done? where do you go to set this up? How do you assign the buttons to do do what do you want them to do? The Traktor/APC-40 needs to be configure further? Do we need one of those Audio dj interfaces from NI? Everybody like to show their dj mixing skills but only a hand full show how this is really accomplish.
@DudasMiska: Very good question, the buttons in the APC-40 are very crappy. Is all made of hard plastic. They should of spend a little bit more and throw in some more rubber in there. The nubs are plastic but the square ones are rubber with a good feel. The fader is very loose, is plastic, and feels very cheap.
Yea, vinyl is great, nothing compares to the feeling of having two records blend together perfectly, but u can get a lot more creative digitally. Just got the S4

great vid man, im guessin ur mixer has midi and tht works fine but can traktor be controlled with the apc40 alone so use the bottom faders for each track etc?? bcos i dont think my djm600 will do what ur mixer does an would b great to know if the 40 can do more than ableton b4 i buy. cheers
As u can see, its integrates fine. probably better that it did a year ago when i did this. Just gotta spend a day programming it to to ur liking. Get Traktor, VDJ is a toy
hi & thanks for the 'tutorial' and .tsi file on NI forum. I am experiencing a strange and annoying problem with apc40. i am actually used your tsi. the buttons assigned for fx unit 2 and some other buttons mapped by myself - lose the mapping during me playing live. ANY idea what this is? all the best!

great job... did you patch with max/msp, max4live or other? im looking to map my apc as a general midi controller for traktor, cubase, reason, walking the dog, lol... looking at using a max or pd patch running to interpret apc's fixed cc's, hopefully wont have to go under the hood to do it in code.
question i kinda got the hang of the zero4 my question is for some reason in traktor say i load up one track both channel A and B for some reason B is noticeably louder and like i know the master usually louder but even when A is Master B still as loud or louder not sure if its the settings in preferences or the mixer settings. I've tried myself any suggestions?
I have a question im trying to mapp it right now and im getting no where with the faders i got the cross faders working and mapped but when you go to map the other 2 faders there's no name for vertical faders. Any suggestions?
Great job! I was planning to buy a Kontrol X1 but I see the APC 40 would allow me more control. Do you think a set up with both would be exagerated? There are also some other set ups like maschine + ap40 or maschine + x1. What is your opinion always considering the use with traktor pro cheers from Brazil
Thanx, I think the APC40 and an external mixer is good enough for what i wanted to do. But its up to u and your needs. But remember, the more gear u have, the more shit u have to midi- program, hence the more controls u have to remember. The best is to try to have all the controls on the screen programmed to one controller.
Yes I agree with you! But remember the X1 is ready to go with traktor. My idea is to control 2 decks with the X1 and 1 deck with the APC but I guess I will first develop the right digital mixing skills as well as the adequate music production techniques before moving the complete set up. In the meanwhile just the X1 controller plus mixer effects will be great! Thanks for the reply!
Honestly I wouldnt get the X1. U can get the Xone 1D for 100$ more. Which has way more controls. The APC can control 4 Decks if u want. As long as youre using and external mixer
Thanks for your opinion. The 1D is a very nice controller but I've chosen the X1 because of many aspects like it being NI and designed for Traktor Pro. In my set up I want to use timecode cds too because I like the beat matching process and the feel as well as an external mixer. The APC I will leave for later. Cheers from Brazil!
Hi dluxx303, really great job. I have the Duo. In these days i was going to take the Kontrol X1 and the APC 20, one for traktor the other for ableton (I thought easy already mapped). But after I thought that if I used the x1 i probably need a mixer, that i have but i don't want to be slave. So my question is, Can I use only the apc 40 to use traktor? Without a mixer! Just with audio signal just out from my apogge or my motu ultralite? Thanks in advance man.
hey dluxx303, nice use of apc. quick question, do you know to remap the apc so that a button will stay active as you hold your finger on it and it will deactivate when you lift your finger?
u have to select "hold" in the drop down menu, when u "learn" the button, I believe. Its in the midi map screen in the options in traktor. Just play around in there, u'll find it.
Bro there is the Program called Midi Pipe that lets u set up your midi so that when u press a botton the light will stay on and how ever u want to set it up.
you can find it at the robelmusic page linked in the description of this video. But you better off mapping it yourself so it will be suited to your needs. Thanx for the kind words
Rules? I dont know...U cant map the middle row of buttons. Those change the channel I think. Basically just map it to the way u wanna play. I like to have control over 4 decks of loops and cues, that my number one priority
you must know the bpm or if you don't know you can tap in 8live at the top button [bpm] to the beat running in traktor and it's automaticly sincroniesed
you can midi sync ableton and traktor both ways. your better to have ableton as the master though. if you dont have midi loopback software like midiyoke, your going to plug a midi cable from the out to the in.
Since when is this about respect? Isn't it about rocking a crowd? I don't give a sh*t what the dj is using. If you are looking at what the dj is using you are missing the point. Beatmatching isn't that hard so giving someone respect for doing it is pointless.
I've djed for years, from vinyl upwards. I think if you're going to utilise mp3s and buttons then the sets should really be something special... as dluxx is saying, and as I'm discovering, there are new possibilities now.. and as metachemical says, it is about rocking a crowd. I think it is about the right music at the right time, and having the musical/technical skill and empathy with the audience.. I write in ableton, put play vinyl/cd... and Iam slowly merging it all into one...
Nice vid, dont you have trouble keeping some of your tracks in sync? Some of my tracks traktor doesnt analyze the beat grid properly and it keeps going out of sync, or just sounds like a trainwreck to start off with. How do you deal with this? thanks
yea I just want to use many samples at once, like a beat and highat say on deck C, a bassdrum on deck D and at the same time mess around on decks A and B, cause I love mixing by ear (thats one of the beauties of mixing and being a dj), its just that I want to do complex sampling which can get really difficult
wow i was very inspired....nice setup..i was searching all over youtube glad i found this post. i currently am using a vestax vci-100 se edition with traktor pro and audio dj8 which i just purchased yesterday.. but looking at ur set up im thinking about switching looks like that controller is all i need...can i usethe volume faders 4 decks 1-4? and wats the unit on the right with the faders and led lights and faders ...i'm very old school and looking to find the right digital set up..thanks
I always though the vci-s and all those dj controllers dont have enough controls. i need to have controll over a lot of stuff, and they just do have it. The unit on the right is a mixer called Korg Zero4. So the APC is set up for use with an external mixer, so I dont need volume faders on it, but u can set it up however u like.
ok i've got it yesterday, started mapping it last night, looks it going to work quite well. have you figured out how to make the rotary encoder's leds to respond to traktor? (yeah i know, maybe it's not even possible!) not much infos out there about it..
I would get the APC40 if u want to have more control over the 4 decks. If u look at what I'm doing in the beginning, I'm triggering cue-points and loops on deck one which is top row of horizontal buttons. well, I got the whole matrix programed to Decks ABCD loop & cue points respectively with modifiers and all that. Imagine doing that with 4 decks, u basicaly make a new track on the fly. and u can lose the timecodes, they'll slow u down.
Wasnt really aiming at selection as much as seeing how everything worked together. I like it the sound though. Thought maybe u had something better, so I checked out the tracks on ur page...meh...kinda gay IMO =]
