  • THIS is opeth to me, not that lame new album!

  • I love all opeth, even the new stuff. but this is my favorite track, fucking flawless!

  • Poets of the Fall are better than this shitty band.

  • @xkhuongdox Ok fair enough. Good to hear you're opinion :D

  • @xkhuongdox Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

  • @xkhuongdox

At least this band brought something new to its respective style, Poets of the Fall is a meaningless band with a mainstream sound that has been done over and over.

  • Opeth is one of the best bands I have ever heard. They bring a bit of something for everyone, Classical, Jazz, Folk, Rock Metal, Badassness. The first 5 albums were my favorites, although the newest album Heritage was rated as their best ever, but I havn't heard it yet.

Plus, Toki Wartooth was made in likeness to Mikael Åkerfeldt... and thats awesome.

  • no matter what people say Opeth is still making music and doing what they love to do,or shall i say what mikael loves to do hahah ! and i respect them for that !

  • opeth=opeth look at any band really they all change throughout the course of their history, and its still godly orgasmic.

  • These were the best years of Opeth. Deliverance was the last brilliant album by them, IMO.

  • NEED MOOR OF THIS!

  • Some of these riffs are way harder than how they sound holy shit

  • I fucking love this song. It's beautiful and powerful at the same time.

  • The ending is fucking epic.

  • those first 2 minutes are the best part of the song

  • Brutal

  • opeths the best to listen to when your high

  • This is one of my favourite Opeth songs. It blew me away when I first heard it. It's one of the best examples of their use of light and shade, in the same song. The heavy parts are brutal, and the melodic parts beautiful

  • HEAVY FUCKING METAL BITCHS

  • I'd just like to say that anyone who says Death Metal is ridiculous noise and dickheads screaming into a microphone has clearly only heard the Deathcore horsepiss their Emo friend listens to and has no idea about Opeth. Show them Opeth, show them It's not just noise, 'cause I am sick of this stereotype

  • @WeedKrop While I agree, no one said it was, so don't try starting flame wars >.>

  • @sofailed9k Everyone says it is. And I like Flame Wars.

  • The songs on still life have such awesome drum compositions! Me like. Relatively simple, but powerful and fitting the music

  • It's about Kevin Moore.

  • I remeber the first time I heard his songs that change from acustic to distorted at 00:39 kicked my ass harder than my drunk godfather.

  • The Moor the merrier.

  • opeth are the greatest band to ever cum in my ear pussies.

  • Ok.. for all u idiots.. this is called progressive... sure.. they have different things here and there.. jazz. beats folk ect.. but so does cryptopsy.. they have a lot of jazz.. dont mean they are jazz... nevermind me...

  • I think its hilarious that the ad that popped up for this song was for a christian dating site. Im guessing because theres a cross in the picture. If only they had any clue...

  • @jordankmanier tldr

  • @jordankmanier That is pretty ironic...

  • @jordankmanier LOL

  • 8.29 minutes :O

  • good god I miss the old opeth

  • @cNightmar3 theres no such thing as old opeth. theres just opeth

  • Way too much arguing over what the music is genre wise, not enough talking about the awesomeness of the music. Heck stop arguing over it and just listen to the goddamn music.

  • Comment removed

  • Why'd they edit out the into? I love that intro.

  • "ArseTang" nobody gives a flying fuck, just listen to the music and shut up.

  • @element252 You don't care because you're 14 years old and don't realise what music is yet. It's okay, that'll change when you grow up. You'll stop listening to Blink-182 and Slipknot. That's when you become a human being.

  • @ArseTang 15 close enough, and why would I be on this video if I liked Blink-182? They are completely different types of music. I'm not one of those people who listens to music I hate just to leave shit comments, I like the music so I listen to it. Maybe you should move on with your life instead of arguing with a teenager via Youtube.

  • @element252 Maybe you should let the big boys talk.

  • I would like to give my opinion but I'm too ignorant.

  • Come on he's right... Opeth is awesome, but nowhere near jazz, does anyone know Charlie Parker?

  • @CugnoTheSwiss Are you seriously arguing if a saxophonist can be an impact on a Progressive metal band? How about some jazz guitarists and bassists that Opeth are very obviously influenced by. Django Reinhardt and Jaco Pastorius spring to mind. I don't think you've listened to very much jazz if you think jazz has to be brass or woodwind.

  • @ArseTang

I'm not sure where you're getting the jazz influence in Opeth. I mean, I don't really listen to much jazz, but still....

  • love the way this song kicks in!

  • @IoumaTROM i did and they are like 20 bucks a piece!

  • @yooooooooooooog

    ok thx man

  • Should have never cut the intro...

And @Shifty,got to the website to check it

  • @jezza09187

oh thx...would you happen to know the price of them?

  • where the hell can i get opeths first 3 albums??? they arent on itunes and ive never seen them at cd stores! someone please help

  • @ShiftyStealthy amazon

  • @ShiftyStealthy Check out eMusic. Awesome sight for underground/unknown music. Excellent quality, cheaper than everywhere else, and they usually have some deals running (google free trial eMusic).

  • @yooooooooooooog lol in my language, french, we use the english word ''cheap'' to talk about bad quality, so I was confused by your comment a little bit XD

  • @ShiftyStealthy eBay

  • Epic song

  • Probably their best tune... Really hard to decide though :D

  • I moved it's likes to 666. Brilliant band...

  • Now, my friends, I think we are all extremely privileged that we can listen to something as beautiful and epic as 7:13 to the end of the song. Praise Arkerfeldt, Praise Lindgren, Praise Mendez and Praise Lopez. They are some of the greatest musicians of our time.

  • im not really a metalfan (this IS metal right? dont want to cause a shitstorm) but I think its good music. Never got my head around the whole grunting thing, to me the song got really enjoyable only after the grunting stoped and the normal chorus started.

  • @Enothrae

Yes, it's progressive metal. I also recommend Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Angelwitch, Saxon, Megadeth, Devin Townsend Project, Ghost, Mercyful Fate, Megadeth, (early) Metallica, Children Of Bodom, Sonata Arctica, Venom, Korpiklaani, Electric Wizard, Bathory and Judas Priest; this list is by no means comprehensive but should give you a pretty good overview of the genre (Metal in general I mean not just Prog Metal).

  • @YorkshireMinor I've had a peroid of listening to metal and I kinda liked Iron maiden especially. but I thinkI gre out of it. I know about half of these bands from friends ect. , but ive listened children of bodom once and I was not really impressed.. I think its a kind of music you have to like nad get used to, and i have another taste and ive never really foten in to metal ( I tried I guess) I remember liking a song by Iced earth a lot, a thousand strong or something of that order.

  • @Enothrae

Concerning Children Of Bodom, you should to try their early stuff (espescially from the album "Somthing Wild").

I do agree with you on some of your points "you have to get used to it".

Oh and try some folk metal..... :D

  • @Enothrae I think the contrast between the growl's and the soft chorus is brilliant and they accentuate each other.

  • 7:13 marks the beginning of my favourite Opeth passage. There's nothing more moving than this song -3

  • @pyurmassacur hell yeah. fucking beautiful right!

  • - What dose the counter say about the viewers of this video?

    - It's over 9000!!!!!

    - 9000? No way that can be right! It should be even more!

  • 3:05 is my favorite part in the song

  • Lol how the hell did the conversation end up talking about jazz influence...

  • uperoxo komati !

  • There is very little jazz influence in opeth. Sorry. I have listened and played jazz for many years longer than I've listened to opeth. There are some chords here and there and a little influence in the drums with the occasional mode used in a solo, but out of 9 albums, very very little. Opeth is amazing but they really aren't jazzy. More blues, folk, metal, prog and classic rock.

  • @jimbobanalbeats

that's because in progressive metal there's a small eclectic influence, that's because of jazzy rhythm

  • @GrazFlow Tool is also labeled as prog. There is no hint of jazz. Stop attempting to define prog. It isnt really a genre in the same sense as jazz.

  • @jimbobanalbeats >Says Opeth aren't very Jazzy

    >proceeds to compare them to progressive music

    >mfw ಠ_ಠ

  • @ArseTang Are you confused? Prog is not jazz. You have no idea what you are talking about.

  • @jimbobanalbeats

.I have no idea what I'm on about man? Every Progressive Rock band ever has been inspired by classical and jazz. You've blatantly never heard progressive rock before man. Listen to King Crimson please, then realise how stupid seem on the Internet. I don't know what I'm on about? What a hilarious human being you are

  • Every single one of them? Inspired by classical and jazz? Every one of them right? You are blatantly making broad generalizations. At any rate, being inspired by jazz and being jazzy are too entirely different things. Opeth is not jazzy, which was my original point. Dont bother replying again I blocked you. Stupid fuck. Try and comprehend what you read.

  • @jimbobanalbeats Feels good being right. Jazz fusion bands aren't inspired by jazz bands. STOP MAKING SUCH BROAD GENERALISATIONS!

  • They are also inspired by abba. I wouldnt call them swedish poppy. Prog is a much broader and far more loosely defined genre then jazz fusion.

  • @jimbobanalbeats There are a lot of artists influenced by The Beatles. They don't have to be a British Invasion artist. It's funny though, of course it's a more broad genre. You realise what progressive means don't you? I really don't know why I'm arguing about this with you. You obviously have no idea about music, which is a let down considering you've "listened to and played jazz for many years". Side note: Listen to Get Yoursef a Man by Comus, they're Opeth's biggest influence.

Side note: Listen to Get Yourself a Man by Comus, they're Opeth's biggest influence.

  • @ArseTang I know of Comus. They are not jazzy either, so I dont see how they are relevant to this topic. At any rate, this has veered far off from my original point which was that Opeth is really not jazzy. Which they werent, prior to the fusion elements in their new album. Were they influenced by jazz and jazz fusion groups in their previous albums? Im sure, but that wasnt the point. That comment was posted 2 months ago, prior to the release of heritage.

  • @jimbobanalbeats Get Yourself a Man isn't jazzy? You have heard the saxophone solo by Didier Malherbe right? Point is It's pretty fucking obvious that there is a very large jazz influence in their music. From My Arms, Your Hearse onwards. Same complex time signatures, similar timbre, common jazz chords and progressions. You're wrong man. If you can tell me the solo in Porcelain Heart isn't heavily (inf act is) influenced by jazz, you're oblivious to what jazz is.

  • @ArseTang If the blues infused solo of porcelein heart is your best example in their music prior to heritage of a jazzy sounding solo, then you are the one that is oblivious. Listen to some wes montgomery or charlie christian if you want to hear jazz guitar playing. Ive enjoyed the mutual flexing of the epeen we have been doing, but I feel like you care a lot more then I do. Of all the words that could be used to describe Opeth, Jazz is one of the weakest. Listen to some jazz sometime.

  • @jimbobanalbeats Now you're comparing Opeth to blues? You ever heard that breakcore section in Baying of the hounds? You're stupid man, really stupid. I find it funny that you're telling me to listen to possibly the two most contemporary jazz guitarists of all time. You're actually going to try and argue music with me when the only jazz guitarists you can muster are those two? ಠ_ಠ

Listen to some Django Reinhardt, Herb Ellis, Kenny Burrell and George Barnes spring to mind. Move on.

  • @ArseTang No, I said the solo was bluesy. Porcelein heart doesnt have a bit of jazziness. It is a terrible example if you are trying to prove a point. Neither does the comus song you referenced aside from perhaps a 7th chord or two. As impressed as I am by your name dropping, your examples to prove to me that opeth is jazzy are.. not jazzy. Sorry dude. I named 2 guitarists that I thought you might be unaware of as the only example you gave to prove opeths jazziness was a folky prog group.

  • @jimbobanalbeats

Feels good being right. You enjoy 15 year olds thumbsing up a comment they can't understand. Bye!

  • @ArseTang It does. I am glad that disagreement aside, we both share an appreciation for the awesome that is Opeth. <3

  • @jimbobanalbeats What a decent resolution. I fucking love Opeth.

  • @ArseTang At any rate. It has been a great deal of fun. I have no intention of replying to you any further as you are incredibly obnoxious and generally rude. Really it was fun. I hope many more people read my top comment and propel it to the top in agreement. Happy listening friend!

  • @jimbobanalbeats listen to heritage...and they are very fusion...opeth are influenced by not only prog bands like camel...but a subset of prog/fusion...i believe its called the canterbuty sound...most do not know this

  • @jimbobanalbeats

Wait, how could anyone possibly think that Opeth has jazz influence? lol...

  • @TheBoomstickhero Read the entire comment. That isnt what I said.

  • @TheBoomstickhero They do, though. The funky section in The Lotus Eaters, or Nepenthe, for example

  • @jimbobanalbeats where did you get folk? Progressive, okay, metal, definitely, classic rock definitely, blues kind of, but FOLK? man you trippin

  • @thiscitysamess You are kidding right?

  • @thiscitysamess I think there is a folk influence in Opeth's style. It's definitely there. Especially on the last two albums. I hear everything in their sound, from metal, to progressive, to classic rock, to classical music (The Apostle in Triumph, Madrigal), to folk (Folklore, the mellow segments in Heir Apparent), to jazz (Nepenthe) to Middle Eastern rhythms (Closure, Bleak) to funk (Lotus Eaters). That's what makes them such an amazing band. They just blend in elements of so many styles.

  • @jimbobanalbeats You haven't listened to Heritage, have you?

  • @FormerlyMrBean667 This message was posted before heritage was released.

  • @jimbobanalbeats that doesnt matter dude they have a HUGE folk influemce they have for a very long time

  • @toasterjoe70 Yeah. I said that.

  • @jimbobanalbeats oh geez fail....i responded to the wrong person haha

  • @jimbobanalbeats Yeah, I just realised that after I posted. But I do see where you're coming from. What many call Opeth's 'jazz' influence is closer to blues and folk more than anything.

  • There is not word for this masterpiece.. My mind is in another universe.

  • @ryder and jhonny... Pointless!! Let's enjoy this masterpiece

  • 11 people dislike this? Kill yourselves.....all 11 of you.

  • opeth is such a remarkable band, they could be playing at a huge metal festival to thousands of metal heads one day and the next be playing in some underground jazz club to a completly opposite group of people and both mediums would be satisfied

  • @vikingthrone345 no they couldn't, shut the fuck up

  • @ryder187mac I see you there, troll.

  • @johnnymfapplecore Okay, I'll elaborate. Opeth would never be able to play in a jazz club to a jazz audience because their music has nothing to do with jazz, or what a jazz club audience would want to see.

    Alright?

  • @ryder187mac Well obviously after the release of Heritage, they will have some jazzy stuff they'll be able to add to their setlist.

  • @Niamorg1007 Well, Heritage isn't out yet, and the music still has little to do with jazz. "Jazzy" doesn't cut it.

  • @ryder187mac You got a point.

  • @ryder187mac I see your point, but there are copious jazz elements in Opeth's music, i.e. Face Of Melinda. And while a jazz club may not like the metal side to their music, they'd appreciate the jazz elements, especially in their calmer songs.

  • @johnnymfapplecore Brush drums and double bass in a single song don't make for "copious" jazz elements. I knew you'd mention Face of Melinda, but still, Opeth would never play in a jazz club.

  • The new album is called Heritage and will come out in September apparently

  • @Interioroutbreak69 it will leak before september bro

  • acustic parts are fantastic...one of my favorite opeth's song

  • Opeth, never cease to create musical genius.

  • Why don't we just flag the comments that these unoriginal assholes post? "one m0:00re time and I hope my neighbors like this song". I'm kind of sick of seeing them.

  • @Necryte why dont you just stop bitchin an listen to the music

  • @Myxotruck666 What am I supposed to do while I'm listening to the music though? Play with my dick? Obviously you read comments too while listening to music instead of "just listening". Hypocrite. Also, I actually enjoy reading comments, and I know other people don't like seeing this unoriginal shit, so I gave them an idea. So, my "bitching" is justifiable. BTW nice name, fag. 666? What are you, three?

  • @Necryte I completely agree, people just post stupid shite like that to get thumbs up on a video, it's stupid.

  • I had a dream about a metal band called "Moor" and this made me youtube the name. The band dont exist as far as I'm aware, but I stumbled upon this as the top result. FREAKING AMAZING.

  • @Joshy471 You were destined to listen to this song... that is a really cool way to discover this band!

  • @Joshy471 that band exist my friend and they are good :D search The Moor in google

  • @3:07 reminds me of ABBA

  • lol the only time I've ever actually wanted to listen to the intro, I happen to click on this video. Great song with or without it though!

  • Forever my favorite Opeth song. Incredible intro,incredible... everything.

  • Comment removed

  • Blythe and pig.. would you please just STFU or just GTFO of here... I can't here the epic music for your bitching

  • Comment removed

  • You don't know what the hell you're talking about. There's more musicial genius in michael's (The lead singer and guitarist's) little finger than in most people in the world. Open your mind, listen to more Opeth! You won't regret it.

  • Comment removed

  • @LuisBlythe666 Sorry you don't like it, kid. But, clearly if you're listing to Voivod and Watchtower, this kind of musical quality and talent escapes your scope of understanding.

Furthermore, if you're going to talk about music you should know about music. Pick up a book about theory and you'll realize that there's no "random" in this. These guy's really know how to construct music. Talk to a musician who knows something.

This guy's vocal range is vast. Calling it sissy makes you look ignorant.

  • Comment removed

  • @LuisBlythe666 Uh oh... I guess you're right. I'll try to deal with your opinions. In the meantime, why don't you try to come to grips with the difference between expressing an opinion and the unwarranted bashing of musical genius you don't understand.

  • Comment removed

  • @LuisBlythe666 This is that unwarranted bashing I mentioned earlier.

  • Comment removed

  • @LuisBlythe666 Sure.

  • @LuisBlythe666 fuck you

  • Comment removed

  • @LuisBlythe666 I know, right? Now, I love Metal, and try to listen to all forms of it. But I've never found this band to be as good as people say. Believe me I've tried, I have listened to a lot of their songs. I prefer Melodeath and Folk Metal to this. And I know what you meant by "sissy clean vocals"... 7:53. smh

  • Comment removed

  • @SycamoreHill14 Have you tried: Opeth - Morningrise

  • @LuisBlythe666 @LuisBlythe666 Opeth is very diverse for a metal band, just keep listening to their music, bound to be something you like. Or figure out you don't actually like metal, because thanks to you I listened to Voivod. Terrible and they're more punk than metal.

  • @LuisBlythe666 See ya

  • Comment removed

  • This is one of my absolute favorite Opeth songs. It is hands down the best song from Still Life.

  • thank you opeth, honestly, thank you for existing <3

  • Wow, I just read the comments... I'm suprised how many fucking idiots listen to such good music.

  • Opeth's music is jus lyk mixin all ta trippy drugs n shootin them up!!!

  • @aku121000 Opeth's music is like dying?

Seriously though, that comment leads me to believe that you haven't done very many drugs.

  • @aku121000 troll
