  • to me this is the best anime opening ever, i allways get tired of openings after the 2nd or 3rd time and start skipping them but i watched shigurui five times already an im still watching and enjoying the op, it has the same intensity as the anime and the music and red color just amplifies the themes of life,passion,death... its amazing

  • the music is perfect for practicing kenjutsu, especially in a sparring

  • This intro makes me shit my pants everytime.. I swear it hits me right in the soul .

  • Manga is a masterpiece, so is the anime. Will always be one of my favorites.

  • amo este opening alstima que prohibieron la segunda temporada U.U

  • the show wont continue ..that's fucking bad ..I mean one of the best animes I've seen

  • i watched the whole series, but when did Fujiki Gennosuke lose his arm?

  • at first i thought it was too gory but then i just wanted to keep watching

  • plz help i cant find volume 15 im just stuck in the episode 77 i cant find anything on google :(

  • finally a perfect op for a perfect samurai anime

  • soul

  • I had watched the anime of this series a few months back and was astounded by the artwork, theme, the time period, sound... not to much but overall it was excellent. I was wondering if anyone could recommend an anime set in medieval Japan but none of the mainstream ones like Samurai Champloo, Rurouni Kenshin, Basilisk, Afro Samurai because I've seen them and frankly they bored me except Rurouni that was awesome. So yeah if someone could set in Medieval Japan recommend one I'd appreciate it =)

  • @IIIZ3ROIII

    Amatsuki.

  • better than gantz?... mmm...

  • @MrTheChompiras Yeah ...is better than Gantz but watch your self

  • IM glad i ran into this anime.....It just draws you in... im up to episode 9 and im betting ill watch it all over again.

  • This was my experience with Shigurui:

1st watchthrough: Hmmmm, this is a bit too much, they're just being violent for the sake of it. It's kind of slow too. HOLY FUCK THAT ENDING WAS AWESOME GODDAMN!

2nd watchtough: I don't know how I didn't realize it the first time, but these characters have incredible depth. The atmosphere is incredible too, I feel almost like I'm being consumed by the dread.

3rd watchthrough: This anime is a fucking masterpiece, in all aspects of the word.

  • im watching it right now for the 1st time and yes, it is a masterpiece, and the art is great. really amazing piece of animation. great comment.

  • the anime is nothing compared to the manga, these 2 guys are still fighting & it's 13 volumes in...& the manga is only the first story of a novel!!

  • I am upto my 3rd time watching this series and there is always something new to learn.

  • @impyshmimpy hell yeah & the manga is friggin awesome wish they'd make more cuz the story leadin to the fight is goin tight gennosuke is a demon

  • Syoukinite Taigyou Narazu

    Busido Wa Sigurui Nari

  • Well i was told that the anime was a master piece, this opening is not really helping it shows nothing

Ill just go for the manga xD

  • That coupled with the fact that, relative to the previously mentioned series, the pacing in the anime can be sort of slow at times, I think is enough to put off the casual viewer. This is definitely a smart anime, and maybe people will understand it better when the manga, or even the original novel becomes translated.

  • shigurui is probably one of the best manga out there.(well, for my likings anyway.) the anime is not as deep nor as painstakingly precise, but still an awesome piece of work. (too short, and believe it or not, nowhere near as gorey as the manga.. that might really put people off from an awesome story and artwork, wich is a shame..)

  • i really don't understand why so many don't want to understand the difference of the violence in shigurui and the one of ordinal manga-movies...it's another meaning, and it's always elegant in its scene.....reminds kurosawa movie in a darker and splatter mode....anyway awsome!

  • Agreed, Shigurui is BY FAR the most underated anime/manga EVER. Everyone's gone soft by watching Bleach, and Naruto with their made up magical corny attack, and their child heroes. (a rediculous anime cliche btw.) This is as close to the Edo period we're ever going to get as far as realism goes, yet people still bitch, and talk about how corn ball anime like Sword of a Stranger, Samurai Deeper Kyo, and Kenshin are better. It's utter bs.

  • you're right...but i advise you not to consider negative excellent works as bleach and naruto...they're not at this level, but they're really good, and more complicate than you think. i particularly appreciate naruto for his well thinked story and the characterization of characters, and bleach and one piece are good in design. anyway shigurui, vagabond and most of all berserk are totally in another superior level!

  • Naruto is not bad, I just think really if you look at the story arcs, they're like wash, rinse and repeat. It's always let's introduce bad guy, Naruto, and crew beats bad, now let's make you feel sorry for bad guy. They even try and make people emphasize with Orochimaru for christs' sake! Anyone that has seen Shippuden knows what I mean.

  • The manga isn't finished yet for all the people bitching about the ending.

  • バジャダヨ

  • I THINK YOU ARE SHIT

    peachkino

  • How is Shiguri pointless? Yes I applaud the animation, but even the animation could not save this if the story wasn't good. It's a revenge story and a look into old Japanese society. Granted there's some bits where it's clearly exaggerated, it touches on everything it should without being something it shouldn't ( Kenshin ). Men were "men", women were treated like shit and honor and formality were at their peak in that society. Personally I loved it.

  • you just can't see its elegance...ninja scroll is a joke confronted with this.....how do you support your opinion?...do you really know japan history and culture?...it's obviously exaggerated, but it's a very realistic story...and what it says aboun tadanaga is true...and the "voice" deals perfectly with the chronicles of edo jidai

  • Go stick with Samurai Deeper Kyo then, that seems like it's more your type of realism.

  • Yeah, whatever stay with Pokeman, or whatever maybe Sailor Moon is more for you then.

  • Are you kidding me? Shigurui is the realist, or atleast closest to real asyou're going to get when it comes to Edo Japan being depicted in an anime. And yes I''m even mentioning the sword fights, and Samurai abilities with that. I mean, come on is Samurai Deeper Kyo more realistic? Um no, face it man when it comes to historic Japan anime samurai are too romanticized in most of them, Shigurui was accuarate as can be women were treated like shit and people put eachother through hell. Do the math.

  • I love Shigurui because it presents the details of Japanese social system and value in the 17th century. I will not blame anyone who dislike it which is too dark for most of anime fans. However, I will highly recommend this anime to anyone who is interested in Japanese culture and history

  • One of the fucking baddest animes in history.

  • SAY WORD SON!

    SAY WORD

  • Okay, word.

  • Mad House need to start changing a little bit original stories in order to keep their place as kings of anime...

  • i love mad house and i agree, but it seems that gainex is comming up fast aswell

  • "Yeah, the story was difficult, hard to understand so it sucked! Also, why was the main character not in orange jumpsuit and why were they not using magic? And all the grey and black and red is not funny, why not using more colors?! Naruto is waaaaaaaaaaay better!..."

    ...

    Jeez, people are stupid

  • you ar a stupid teenager who needs to stfu and go watch bleach special episodes where there is only his little sister and kon cause that is very cute andfor you, fuck off you little pussy that wants more colors and magic and yellow jumpsuits

  • I think 19911014 was being sarcastic.

  • Oh you forgot there's too many one kill atacks!!! Wich is another stupid criticism this anime gets often. I know, let's get a motivated killer that's highly skilled with a sword and have him swing it at them, and see how many hits it take for them to die.

  • the manga isnt finished either, youd be happier with some retarded fake ending like with Gantz?

  • Just watched the entire episodes. It's too dark for my taste but artistically definitely a masterpiece. For mature audience only.

  • By mature you mean because of the violence/sex or mature like in "open mind" and stuff?

  • anyone know any sites where i can watch this series? All of em that i know of are blocked...

  • Did you ever find out where to watch/download Shigurui?

  • check OuroborosInfinity's channel

  • check OuroborosInfinity's channel

  • i wonder, why is shigurui's name written in katakana, when shi and gurui are both native japanese words ?

  • Kata-kana is native japanese words too.

Both Hira-gana and Kata-kana formed from kanji.

"Shi" means death. "gurui" means insanity.

    Sorry about my cheap engrish.

  • i know it is, of course it is :)

I meant that katakana is used for the words that came in japanese from other languages etc. english,french... and for jap words ,they usually use hiragana and kanji(except for example when people reserve tables in restaurants and such stuff, they write their names in katakana ,no idea why though) that's why i was wondering.

  • Don't know how to explain but let me give a try. I think "shigurui" expressed in katakana was intentionally done here because it really suits the feel--kind of modern feel--of this series. It's kind of unexpected and fresh in that way. If I see "shigurui" expressed in kanji, it's too ordinary & dead serious. On the other hand, if "shigurui" expressed in hiragana, then that would be a joke. It's not appropriate here. Hope this is helpful.

  • @AliProjectUberAlles Understand. The use of the character does not have the standard originally.

  • It means "Crazy for Death"

  • best anime in 2007

  • shi(死) = Death

    gurui(狂い) = Mania

  • This anime and manga own I love this series

  • Thanks for uploading the opening and ending ^^

I'm adding the first episode but I had to cut it in two parts and without the OP and ED.. felt really bad people wouldn't be able to see them.

  • So its finally here.... yes!
