@ClickOnIt1 It's a higher quality bar. Many of the bars used in Olympic Lifting (what this guy does) and power lifter (this guy also does this) re manufactured of higher quality steel and tension strength than a standard commercial bar.
A couple things..... He does not train bench press like he does a lot of the other lifts. He is just getting into powerlifting and used to mainly just do Olympic weightlifting.... his form is bad... and that's what makes this even more amazing. He will increase his bench within the next coule years no doubt.
the most impressive part of this is misha is a olimpic lifter and pro strong man and neither of those styles focus on bench press very much at all. fucken gorilla strength!!
@AndriuhaTM А вообще штангисты всегда жали лёжа именно таким хватом. Стоит посмотреть кадры, как Юрий Власов жал 180 на наклонной на 2-3 раза, хват как раз такой
@Manstopper90 So I guess you didn't see my point. My point was that his bench is not impressive. His other lifts are irrelevant, we are talking bench, nothing else. This is a video on a bench press right? Thought so. Btw Arnold did hit 540, read his biography, and the kid from my school, well he was all natural. So continue to say whatever floats your boat, I'm glad you at least know how to argue on YouTube :)
It's really not that much. A kid who graduated from my high school a few years ago could do well over 400 lbs and that's in high school. Arnold could do 540lbs during his pinnacle and he was made for looks not strength. Obviously with all those looks he was quite strong but you get the point.
@Unsafekiwi Yea, so what? Another juiced up kid who got up to 400+, but you don't know how much more he managed to progress, he probably reached his limit. And how much can that kid clean and jerk, snatch and deadlift, squat? How well would he do in a strongman competition? Perhaps Misha doesn't have a very impressive bench press compared to his other lifts, but that's because he doesn't need it as much as other lifts. Arnold never could press 540, the most he ever got was about 425.
@kutansky No niestety Burneika po pierwsze jest kulturystą a nie sztangistą i strongmenem jak Koklajew. Po drugie spójrz na technikę wyciskania leżąc. Misza dotyka klatę piersiową i potem wyprostowuje ramiona. Na zasugerowanym przez Ciebie wideo Robert tego nie robi. Gość jest naprawdę sympatyczny, ale za przeproszeniem jego wyciskanie leżąc jest gówno warte i nie porównuj go z Miszą. Dziękuję.
@jaska05 Why would they need to? Same for strongmen. Some say the bench is the best test of upper body strength. Others say the overhead pressing is. It all depends on your sport. Strongmen and weightlifters dont think much of the bench since it doesnt add much for their sport. It can also tighten up the chest and surrounding areas when squatting. I do strongman training and the only benching i do is CGBP for tricep lockout to help with the overhead pressing.
@AmusingYeti I was thinking about the balance. I thought that they/you do the incline bench press for the front delts at least. And if you look at the top strongmen, they all have enormous chest. Check out Magnus Samuelson's 2 reps with 600 lbs on the bench. (I guess you already have.)
@jaska05 Dont forget overhead pressing works the chest as well. Think of it as a very steep incline bench! When im doing log pressing you are actually leaning back slightly and then push from off the chest. Some strongmen do the bench press (a few of my training partners do) however its not going to have much of a carry over to a competition. Koklyaev came 3rd in WSM without training the bench. There arent any bench events in strongman. Same for oly lifting. Got to train around the sport.
That looked the same as an average 200 lbs man goes to gym for the first time in his life and bench presses 135 lbs with no technique whatsoever. :) He could easily bench 600 lbs if he used his pecs also.
That was horrible form (its a compliment, just wait haha), but he still almost pressed 500, from what it looked like, fairly easily, his foot even came off the ground at the end. He is a monster.

@bretchet23 Look up his 330kg squat video,he only used medical sleeves there,i think you need to get your facts straight. Also,KK doesnt even use a belt for deadlift sometimes and he doesnt use anything when he does bench press, including wrist wraps or any of those things. He is just made from pure russian power like misha.

then go and do 505 for 1 and 565 of a 3 board for 2 reps. I wouldn't even be so pissed off at them if they didn't look down on me with a shit eating grin like they're stronger than me and actually have the nerve to chuckle as I bench press 315 for 3 sets of 3, part of my routine, i wasn't going heavy that day. What is with American Lifters and their big ego anyway, like lifting more weight in some astronaut suit is stronger than a lift done raw, i'll make a trip to moon and bench 10000 lbs lol.
If he set up his bench like the guys at westside barbell do he'd have a stronger bench for sure. He even lets his feet off the ground which shows he has no leg drive and a weak base off of which to bench.
@rolfeder westside and those guys are a joke, fuck powerlifting its all about strongman, REAL STRENGTH, not fake strength, those so called 800 lb shirt benchers couldn't even deadlift the back of my Toyota 96' corolla, a feat powerlifters minus the bullshit gear back in the late 80's could do without hardly breaking a sweat.
you know i wouldn't even think that of those guys if they didn't look down on real lifters through their jealousy and spite. They know deep down inside that raw weightlifters like Zydrunas Savickas, Misha, Bill Kazmier, and Paul Anderson are far stronger than them in REAL LIFE, so they created these 3ply equipment junk so that they can feel stronger than the real strong lifters and FOOL the audience at the Arnold Classic, I am so glad there is no money in geared Powerlifting only strongman!
@TrrOtaku He did the clean and press (when that was still an Olympic lift) in the Olympics and yes that was real. But the crap about him being able to squat 1200 raw was utter bs and his claims have been proven on numerous occasions. You should learn to read more carefully, I said MOST of his claims were bs.
@TrrOtaku He had a vegas show act where he would squat two safes filled with money and the weight was claimed two total 1165 lbs. Many years later they actually bothered to weigh the safes on a cattle scale to see what the weight really amounted to (rather than just estimating it) and it was actually only a little over 600 lbs. An impressive feat of strength yes but nowhere near what they claimed he could do. He also was later known for using aluminum weights at his exhibitions.
@TrrOtaku Paul Anderson was strong but people wanted to make him out to be god-like, which he simply wasn't. There have been both strongman and Olympic lifters/ powerlifters, etc. that have surpassed him and the people who publicized him just don't want people to know that. He had many claimed feats of strength become disproven and as well as most of his theories on building strength (there are entire articles and a tv special that talk about his fraudulence) Nobody has squatted or deadlifted
@Fir3fly798 im not calling you a liar but another Olympian said he saw him squatting 700 for reps to warm up for an event. i think the truth is probably somewhere in the middle of what is talked about
@TrrOtaku And I can believe that. It's not even all his fault it was mostly people making exaggerations for him. He just wouldn't deny them. It's like the morons that said Mark Henry could squat and dead like 800 each in high school while barely training, or the people that said (old-time strongman) Arthur Saxon could lift 448 lbs to arms length over his head with one arm. (So basically he was capable of a 448 one arm snatch? okaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy). =P I just don't like misleading people that's all
@TrrOtaku He did the clean and press (when that was still an Olympic lift) in the Olympics and yes that was real. But the crap about him being able to squat 1200 raw was utter bs and his claims have been diproven on numerous occasions. You should learn to read more carefully, I said MOST of his claims were bs.
Misha is the man. He can do everything, weightlifting, powerlifting and strongman. Now maybe the next step would be fight Mariusz in MMA haha. (joking?)
It may seem quite strange that his bench is so close to his push press, but then again, olympic lifters are explosive and get leg drive like crazy in a push press.
This is what he can do without training the lift. He's an overhead lifter. If he trained BP he could get to 650 or better in a year. Most everyone finds they can jerk less than they can BP, it's obvious this is what he can do without serious training.
He snatched 97% of world record 216.5kg his 210 seemed good for more. Serge Reding benched something like 485 also with NO training. The 650 is realistic and in ratio to his deadlifts. Voevoda the hokey player/arm wrestler weighs 270 at 6'4" and BP'd 595.
dude overhead pressing helps your bench like crazy. he wouldnt shoot up just because he starts benching. he would get stronger but not THAT stronger. he already trains his shoulders and has extreme tricep strength which is the most important thing in benching.
@skirts365 i couldn't agree more. youll be surpised how much carry over the overhead press has onto the bench. funny enough, a good bench press does not translate into a good overhead press lol
Exactly. Just like most Oly lifters he doesn't train the bench press. I recall Ken Patera (back when he was still an Oly lifter that is) being able to bench about 500lbs even though he could C&P about the same. It's very impressive that these guys can bench more than most average powerlifters even though they don't even train the lift. True strength right there.
haha that would be impressive except for the fact that all our genetic freaks play football or baseball in order to make millions so thats really not hurtful. especially when derek poundstone is going to dominate the worlds strongest man this year.
@lbz91 Pat Mendez is 20 fucking years in old and will now rape any Eastern European in the clean and jerk. Or any lift for that matter. This is not just an exaggeration, if you don't believe me look him up here on youtube. He's American and he's a beast. Maybe you shouldn't generalize so much hmm?
@krakistophales My point was that that guy was being an arrogant douchebag, and one should never generalize an entire nation like he did. And for the record Pat Mendez has in fact done some official lifts.
@Feon2 that wasn't quite the point. Shirt or not, it takes strength to do that; and I don't think American powerlifters just have better shirts than all the rest.
Few Americans can jerk close to what they can bench. Because we value bench here and not so much a jerk. It only shows all strength is very specific to the training.
yea I can tell by the way he moved his legs in the middle of the bench he doesn't bench a whole lot. Much of that arm strengh / overhead strength from o-lifting transfers over to the bench. you need really strong arms to lockout 240kg over head ;-)
grip width simply determines which muscles groups are targeted more... he obviously favours using his delts and tris to move the bar since those are the muscle groups he uses a lot more for olympic lifting. i doubt he has that much bench press experience at all, he just has insane cross-over strength.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
wow dude, id like to see how much you could do if you actually did a powerlifting style bench, arched back and the like. do you reckon you could deadlift 1000lbs raw? from what ive seen, it seems doable for a guy like you

@kabfik Say what you want about their overall strength, but they know how to bench.

Not hating but this is clearly his weakest lift. After all he's more of a strongman/olympic lifter where bench doesn't matter that much...

im 44 yrs old and i can do that with no problem RAW with ou taking any roids!!! My best bench RAW is 620lbs.and I just did it in Nov 2009.

remember its close grip(by powerlifting standards) with no suit.
acehead0987 2 years ago
Misha is the man. He can do everything, weightlifting, powerlifting and strongman. Now maybe the next step would be fight Mariusz in MMA haha. (joking?)
JaktFibaz 2 years ago
It may seem quite strange that his bench is so close to his push press, but then again, olympic lifters are explosive and get leg drive like crazy in a push press.
slauge 2 years ago
This is what he can do without training the lift. He's an overhead lifter. If he trained BP he could get to 650 or better in a year. Most everyone finds they can jerk less than they can BP, it's obvious this is what he can do without serious training.
skirts365 2 years ago 58
100% your truth.
koklyaevmisha 2 years ago 50
650 or better in a year? HAHAHAHA.
phatneazy 2 years ago 2
He snatched 97% of world record 216.5kg his 210 seemed good for more. Serge Reding benched something like 485 also with NO training. The 650 is realistic and in ratio to his deadlifts. Voevoda the hokey player/arm wrestler weighs 270 at 6'4" and BP'd 595.
skirts365 2 years ago
dude overhead pressing helps your bench like crazy. he wouldnt shoot up just because he starts benching. he would get stronger but not THAT stronger. he already trains his shoulders and has extreme tricep strength which is the most important thing in benching.
phatneazy 2 years ago
I think it's more the other way around. Benching (close grip atleast) helps your overhead press.
Apjooz 2 years ago
@skirts365 i couldn't agree more. youll be surpised how much carry over the overhead press has onto the bench. funny enough, a good bench press does not translate into a good overhead press lol
SacredOreo 1 year ago
@skirts365
Yup. His left foot also slips. That usually never happens with people who train bench consistently. (No disrespect, in fact, more respect for that!)
zhangmaster12 1 year ago
@skirts365

No, he won't.

Fir3fly798 1 year ago
Let's see him do something in an official arena, despite what we've seen on youtube.
Likewise, one american beating a whole continent of European champions doesn't really even the odds, does it?
krakistophales 1 year ago
@krakistophales My point was that that guy was being an arrogant douchebag, and one should never generalize an entire nation like he did. And for the record Pat Mendez has in fact done some official lifts.
Fir3fly798 1 year ago
Yet he has to come close to his training maxes in an official competition ... @Fir3fly798

@lbz91 Nobody has benched 1000lbs except Americans. And there are 3 of them btw.
ChapmanManly 1 year ago
@ChapmanManly well... I think it's safer to say that no one benched 1000 lbs ever. Because those damn shirts helps way too much.
Feon2 1 year ago
@Feon2 that wasn't quite the point. Shirt or not, it takes strength to do that; and I don't think American powerlifters just have better shirts than all the rest.

what the fuck is deadlift shirt anyway?
agvares 2 years ago
Few Americans can jerk close to what they can bench. Because we value bench here and not so much a jerk. It only shows all strength is very specific to the training.
skirts365 2 years ago 9
that sucks because being able to jerk a lot of weight is way more impressive than being able to bench alot.
m1kasd 2 years ago 25
@m1kasd ur mother jerks alot of weight

I am working on getting my clean and jerk higher than my bench. i like that lift a lot better than bench, and it is so much more useful too.

jschrank534 2 years ago
yea I can tell by the way he moved his legs in the middle of the bench he doesn't bench a whole lot. Much of that arm strengh / overhead strength from o-lifting transfers over to the bench. you need really strong arms to lockout 240kg over head ;-)

wow!! Very narrow grip for a man of his width- almost a close grip!
lutonmale1983 3 years ago
Otherwise known as a proper working grip to actually build strength with the movement. Fantastic work!
entwisenva 2 years ago
grip width simply determines which muscles groups are targeted more... he obviously favours using his delts and tris to move the bar since those are the muscle groups he uses a lot more for olympic lifting. i doubt he has that much bench press experience at all, he just has insane cross-over strength.

wow dude, id like to see how much you could do if you actually did a powerlifting style bench, arched back and the like. do you reckon you could deadlift 1000lbs raw? from what ive seen, it seems doable for a guy like you
