@heyaanimerocksheya malwarebytes isnt an anti-virus. you have to have an anti-virus AND malwarebytes. not just malwarebytes. and yes its free. malwarebytes is meant for scanning after you get infected or think you could be infected just to make sure you dont have any viruses leftover that your antivirus missed or didnt fully remove.
I've been uding the Free version for a week, the Web protection sometimes makes online videos VERY jerky so you wanna turn that option off if you got problems.
@SuperFreezeTV Yes you should upgrade immediately. Its safe, free, and you register in the program for FREE :D its 100% free unless you buy the paid-for versions. Avast even said themselves that Avast 5 is 2x faster and more reliable than 4.8 and has tons of new features too.
avast is the best free antivirus. it is weak on the right click-scan files feature though. for that use mbam, hitman pro or upload files to kapersky, virus total or dr. web. but for a real time free AV avast is THE BEST!
How did you get malware bytes to "work in the background"???? My malware bytes that I downloaded works like Ccleaner, open, use, close. How did you get yours to run like an antivirus, in the background? Please reply!!!!!!!
@MBP6705 I agree for the most part but not every single virus writer is a loser. The people who write viruses to test their own programs or to further their knowledge in the virus world are not losers because if they are smart they will know how to keep it on their PC and not spread it. People who purposely spread harmful viruses are absolute assholes.
@coley1555 Yeah, I meant the dicks who spread them around are fucking loosers. My dad got this rouge antivirus program on his. It won't let him open any exe. It also blocks all pages in IE. I've run a few anti malware programs in safe mode. They found a few things, but the rouge "anti virus" is still there. I've been trying everything I can for the last few hours. I might just restore Windows soon. It's called Antivirus Action. Have you ever heard of it, or better yet know how to remove it?
@MBP6705 If you havent already, find a way to get Malwarebytes on the computer and update it and run a full scan. it should find your problem. If it doesnt or if you tried this and made sure it was updated then i dont have much advice for you. all you can really do is search for ways to manually remove Antivirus Action.
@144bulldog That was when i took the video off pause. My screen recorder has a preview box of your screen so it shows my screen inside my screen inside my screen inside my screen and so on... lol
@sroRAGE are you saying it doesnt block stuff? because it does very well. Malwarebytes still finds things that Avast left behind because its 100% impossible for every threat to be completely blocked by an antivirus. 90% of the threats that Avast blocks and Malwarebytes still finds are just scraps and harmless files from the original virus.
@Rodger614 99% of the time yes. There are viruses specifically designed to be able to transfer from the Windows XP environment onto your actual environment (wether its windows 7 or Vista). But the population and danger of these viruses is very low because its a very low percentage of people who will actually contract this virus so the virus maker doesnt get much of a benefit from his hard work and time on that complicated virus.
i have mcafee antivirus plus 2010 configured to highiest settings on firewall and malware protection and scan and update daily with mcafee and malwarebytes free antivirus ,i also check for updates and update when needed with windowws daily, check for updates daily with my internet browser am i protected from malware efficiently?
@Pokemaniac701 If you actually do exactly what you are saying then you are about 85% protected (very good because most users are less than 60%). The reason you are 85% and not 90% or higher though is still the fact that your using McAfee. It is decent but not nearly as good as other AV's. You shouldnt be worried if you scan with Malwarebytes every week for insurance. If you want 90% or better protection then go with Avast 5 Internet Security or Kaspersky Internet Security or Avira Premium.
well i own mcafee antivirus plus 2010 ant despite othere peoples experiences it is very light (only uses 300kilobytes to 3megabytes of ram when idle,13mb to 20mb when scanning) and ive had no problems. is avast free lighter and better?
@Pokemaniac701 Avast is a lot lighter and your reading your numbers wrong because Task Manager uses 2.5MB. McAfee uses around 50-150MB. Also you meant 3000KB not 300.
@Randomvideo123456789 Search 'VMLite' on google and download that and then search 'Windows XP Mode for VMLite' again and you should find the right stuff. The Microsoft site gives out Windows XP Mode for VMLite for free. It asks you what Windows 7 you have and it only lets you download it if you say you have Ultamite (you dont actually need Ultamite you can just say you do. I have Home Premium and told it i have Ultamite).
#1 eset nod32 v4 is not far better at all, it is good but not better.
#2 free antiviruses are not a waste of time because free AV's like Avast 5 and Avira 10 are better than about 40% of the paid AV's. That means that you can either pay a lot (in most cases) to get 99% protection or you could get a free AV for about 85-90% protection. Paid AV's are only necessary when you are a user who downloads music, video, or other software at least 3 days a week. Most people dont do this.
@coley1555 Also, those 40% paid AV's only give you about 75-80% protection and thats why many free AV's are better then them. Please think about what your saying, read about it, think again, then post. This will help to avoid ignorance.
@coley1555 I run Avast Free, Malwarbytes, SAS, ZoneAlarm Firewall, Chrome and UnChrome, WinPatrol, SnoopFree, and Garlic (kidding). I am considering adding KeyScrambler. Is this too much? Would you recommend a sandbox? If so, which one or anything else to add? I installed GeSwall and it crashed my laptop. Had to Safe Mode to uninstall it. I read afterward that it doesn't play well w/WinPatrol. I have XP/SP3. Which PAID Antivirus is the best, thus THE best, in your opinion? Thanks :)
both are good,i think superantispyware has a much detectable rate than malware bytes,it's best to use them both to scan from time to time in case the av is missing something.
@coley1555 I had Avira for a long time, before Avast, and it hardly ever detected anything and it slowed my system down quite a bit. Since using Avast, it has caught numerous nasties. Avast is awesome!!!!!
I am uploading an Avira video right now and it is good. The reason a 'bugged update' crashed your computer was most likely because it was auto-matically restarting it because you failed to do so after numerous updates. I know this because it happened to my other PC lots of times. The nag screen is able to be disabled if you search google and dont try and advertise on my video. Your comment will be removed after i think you have read this reply.

Avast! Free AntiVirus - COMODO Firewall - Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - SUPERAntiSpyware
A lot of freewares can actually do the job if you wanna do something about it..
For a paying AntiVirus i would use Kaspersky because i like details about the threat and Kaspersky delivers professional statistics imo.
