@BreedsColbys I WOULD REBUKE THE CHEERING CROWD BY SHOUTING IN A LOUD VOICE WITH THE MICROPHONE TURNED UP AT FULL VOLUME: "SHUT UP YOU IDOLRATERS!!!! GET ON YOUR KNEES AND REPENT!!!!'' Thats what i would do to them! Here's the definition of Applause...''(Noun) showing PRAISE by clapping''...SEE THAT? ''PRAISE''! WE PRAISE JESUS NOT JACK HYLES!!!!
I swear the students's reaction to Jack Hyles is 99% the same as the ''Price Is Right'' audience's reaction to Bob Barker!!! Good Greif! To treat their preacher like BOB BARKER?!?!?!?!! My goodness the only diffrence here is the crowd is waving bibles in the air while screaming and applauding plus no 'announcer to announce Hyles's entrance plus organ music playing in the background instead of ''The Price Is Right'' theme. Other than that, this LOOKS so simular to the opening of 'Price is Right'!
ME (imating Rod Roddy): And here's your host of ''The Price is Right''-Oops! i mean Hyles-anderson college....JAAAAAAAAAAAAACK HYLES!
(Jack Hyles walks on stage while all of the hyles-anderson students stand, scream and applaud like crazy just like ''Price Is Right'' audience screams & applauds for Bob Barker)
"Every cult of personality that emphasizes the distinguished qualities, virtues, and talents of another person, even though these be of an altogether spiritual nature, is worldly and has no place in the Christian community; indeed, it poisons the Christian community. @larrypetree YOUR WRONG. If you watch "Jack Hyles - A Vote For The Blood - Part 1 of 5" at the very begining of church service...The church gave him THE EXACT SAME CHEERING AND APPLAUSE PRAISE BEFORE HYLES BEGAN HIS SERMON! WATCH IT YOURSELF AND YOU WILL SEE THE AUDIENCE AT THE BEGINING CHEERS FOR HYLES!!!! THE FIRST BAPTIST CROWD ACTS LIKE ROMAN CATHOLICS CHEERING FOR THEIR POPE!!!!
WOW!! How can you say this is not worship of a man?! I mean the organ plays, the door swings open, a man walks in, and we all start yelling like we are at a football game! I think it is great to get excited in church, but come on shouldn't we get excited about worshipping the Lord of Lords and King of Kings?! Not the preacher! Let's get real hear folks, Jesus died on the cross for us, let's give Him ALL the Glory!
And Im suprised YHWH and Jesus didnt send a Tornado to kill all those cheering idol worshippers and jack hyles since Hyle-Anderson College is in Chicagoland which is a major tornado hotspot.
THIS IS NOT A TRUE CHURCH SERVICE. THIS A MIXTURE OF PENTECOSTALISM, IDOLATRY, AND A FOOTBALL GAME COMBINED!!!!! ITS TRAGIC THAT HYLES AND THE CHEERING CROWD FELL VICTIM TO SATAN'S TRAP. IF APOSTLE PAUL WAS THERE HE GET A MICROPHONE AND SCREAM AT THAT CROWD TO SHUT UP AND REPENT FOR WHAT THEY DID AND HE WOULD ALSO SAY THE DOCTRINES OF ETERNAL SECURITY AND EASY BELIVISM ARE SATAN'S LULLABY!!! If there's any baptist that comes close to being right..its the lordship salvantionist like Ray Confort.
can u say pentecostalism plus idolatry?? the crowd cheering, whistling, clapping, jack hyles reseemble a word faith church cheering and worshipping Oarl Roberts!!!
I went to the cult-college and attended fbc. I may have even been in that numb-brained crowd. I've heard Hyles speak hundreds of times. What a truly gifted speaker he was. Too bad he turned out to be such a disappointment to the gullible, young fool that I was. I'm glad I finally saw through him. It was the genuine lack of kindness in Hyles that finally made it clear to me. Then it got easier when I noticed he twisted the bible like a twizler. R.I.P. Hyles. Glad you now know the REAL Jesus.
yeah, i know it's not easy hearing you're part of a cult, but ya are blanche, ya are! this looks like a britney spears concert with a lot more clothes and bibles. it's absurdity, absolute stupidity! it's jim jones creepy--take it from an outsider--it's freakin' creepy!!
yeah, i know it's not easy hearing you're part of a cult, but ya are blanche, ya are! this looks like a britney spears concert with a lot more clothes and bibles. it's absurdity, absolute stupidity! it's jim jones creepy--take it from an outsider--it's freakin' creepy!!
@RayRayluvsEarth YES THEY ARE!!! THEY SHOULD CHEER FOR JESUS NOT MEN!!! These sinful so-called "easy belivism baptists" reseemble roman catholics cheering for the pope and a pentecostal church combined!!!
Dr. Hyles were filled with his pride and boast. He thinks he's world's best pastor than all pastors. He claims that his church on a single Sunday morning service, about 15,400 people got saved. I don't buy it. That was "Easy Believism". Guess what? How did he died in 2001? Died by HEART ATTACK!!! so quickly. Why? Because of his pride.
@DeafPistons and im afraid he along with all his followers that cheered for him like roman catholics do for the pope, acted VERY pentecostal like (notice how the idolatrous cheering crowd and Dr. Hyles LIFT THEIR ARMS IN THE AIR LIKE PENTECOSTALS AND WORD FAITH BELIVERS AT THE 0:13 MARK?) at his sermons and worshipped him like a god every service at the Hyles-Anderson college/FBCH are going to burn in hell if not already. Now im NOT judging Im going by the bible: "By their FRUITS you will know"
That seems to be the Hyles way. I know many HAC graduates, and many come out of that college with a very worrying veiws on God. Of course people should talk about things that worry or upset them, perticularly when this relates to the only subject that is of value, our Lord and Savior. What worries me is the crowds reatcion to the man that walked through the door. No man should be raised up like that. Honour God not man, Hylander! Please feel free to mail me and discuss this issue.
Living outside of society (a la "biblical seperation")? Check.
Sounds like a cult to me.
Of course, I'm a bit biased because all Christianity (or religion for that matter) sounds like a cult to me. But the facts are there. Hammond was/is a cult.
the princeton website gives several definitions for the word cult. here are just a couple of those definitions:
"an interest followed with exaggerated zeal", "followers of an unorthodox, extremist, or false religion or sect who often live outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader", "a religion or sect that is generally considered to be unorthodox, extremist, or false".
I don't know whats up with you guys. Dr. Jack Hyles was an awesome guy. There was no "idol worship" they were simply cheering and praising their pastor. If you don't encourage your pastor(If you even go to church) then I pity him. He's gotta be one of the most miserable preachers out there. There is nothing wrong with this. Dr. Jack Hyles was an amazing man.
Encouraging is good, but do you think this goes a little far? In an effort to be fair, after reading your comment, I'm trying to see their side of it. Maybe the audience just really, really liked him. Still, at least in this clip, it comes off looking kind of strange, especially since you can't understand the words they're saying in unison at the end.
Thank you for trying to see it from that side. And they repeated after Jack Hyles when he said, "that's not nice.." and then "You're mocking me.." It was all meant for the spirit.
I remember saying/repeating "That's not nice" "You're mocking me" after Dr. Hyles said that. We always looked forward to seeing our Preacher at chapel time.
From someone that has been a student at HAC for four years before Prearcher passed-I can understand why some people would say that we "worshiped" our "Preacher" since it LOOKED or SEEMED like we worshiped him, and not God. We did not worship Dr. Hyles-we loved him due to who he was. A man after God's own heart. Kama-you have it right. We are encouraging our pastor.
@sandbar3000 encouraging your pastor? TO TREAT HIM LIKE HE'S BOB BARKER IS ENCOURAGING? I guess ''Price Is Right'' crowd ENCOURAGED Bob Barker or Roman Catholics are ENCOURAGING false images of Jesus, images of Mary and The Pope when they also cheer and scream in reaction to their presence!
"Cheering and praising their pastor"? Only God is worthy of praise, not the egomaniac who spawned the pervert named David. This man did much more to hurt the cause of Christ than he ever did to help it. How did they help his widow grieve? They used church tithes to get her a 2002 JAGUAR. Apparently a mid-priced mid-sized car wasn't good enough. How does she look at her "flock" knowing they're giving money for her to live far better than any of them. Hypocrites in the worst sense at HAC and FBC!
Even if it was meant well, it evidently appears cultish to enough people that perhaps Hyles or his staff should have questioned themselves, "Hey, how's this coming off to the people we're trying to reach?"
That literally can't ever happen at FBC or HAC - rational thought or logic is not promoted and there is no debating anything. How it came off to anyone outside their community would never pop into anyone's mind. What went on there (and goes on there) straddles that gray line on the edge of a cult. Hard to call...
My point is that, while I think members were/are nuts to put up with the nonsense, he (Hyles) was genuinely a good guy and meant well for everyone - his approach was out of touch.
javieraaron29: Quite happy and living in Atlanta now - very content in a non-fundamentalist church environment. Perhaps you'd like to tell us about your experiences there during the build-out in the 60-70's when we went to the Hammond Civic Center for months while the Sibley church was being built. You can't because you weren't there. I was and I saw what went on in that place.
It was wrong then. It's wrong now. Just walk away - I will guarantee you a better life. I wish you the best.
For all of yall that made these stupid comments instead of criricizing that men of "GOD" why dont yall go soulwinnig i bet everybody who made the criticiting comments r either out of church or u r living an unhappy live
@javieraaron29 keep believing your mind effed bull crap--people who don't go to church on sunday go to brunch and drink mimosas--that's awesome, bet you never had a mimosa--and, if you did, have some more--gets rid of the edge!! and, baby, you got an edge!!
Good one! I actually drink mimosas on Sunday mornings once in awhile with my lady friend. I grew up in those type of churches and it feels great to be an adult and drink mimosas on Sunday morning instead of being forced to go hear that crap. Although, if I had to go back and listen to that crap I would make sure I drank something stronger than a mimosa before hand.
My friends that I forwarded this to are all asking me similar questions to "Are you kidding me?" and "You grew up with that?". The sad scary part is that the guy actually meant well...in his own convoluted way. "How to become a Mindless Fanatic 101" folks...and people are still buying it all these years later...go figure...
I hadn't seen this one, but I grew up in that church and saw many similar scenes. Yes, it is scary. No, it's not right.
The common theme at that place is that you are never taught to - or for that matter how to - think for yourself. The history that is taught is just plain wrong. The rules and restrictions screw up too many kids. What a mess - I thought that church and college had closed years ago. I was sadly and tragically incorrect...(rubbing my temples)....
The Lord said He did not come to condemn nor judge but to save. You have no ground nor any sense to say He got his reward and that now in heaven he didn't, were you there to witness that? Idiots either way he was the man, who cares about you bunch of envious losers just look at your lives and see reality!
The most important thing that we Bible-believing Christians must acknowledge is truth, is that God does not share the platform with any man, woman, or child. He either gets all of the glory or none. It is not shared. What is sad is that, Dr. Jack Hyles received his reward/praise here on earth and has lost it in Heaven. We should all beware of pride and vain glory and what it can do to us when out of control.
He was loved, respected and, rightfully so!! He played around with those college kids as if he were their father and/or friend. That anyone finds something to criticize in that suggests that they are utterly devoid of any common sense.
Yeah, played around with me. Made me feel like shit if I didn't act like he was GOD!!! Don't tell me I'm devoid of any common sense. I was there. I lived it. I did everything in my power to make those bastards happy and they still treated me like a piece of shit.
you jack hyles fan club members, you better pray that your gu-ru had enough stubling insurance to make it, did he go up or did he go down? check out bruce lackey on repentance, luke 13:3 rev, 20:15
You would have thought Jesus Christ himself walked up on the stage the way those folks were cheering
Luke 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
I see a crowd of young people screaming for their Great Leader and waving their holy books in the air. Reminds me of Mao Tse Tung's cult of personality.
but its ok when people do that at rock concerts, thats not a cult but this is! There are cheering for hime because they like his preaching! read these verses that they posted before "O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph."Psalms 47.1
"Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour." Romans 13.7
How blinded by religion are you people to debate whether a man of God should be applauded or not...Who cares-Just PREACH! This debate is retarded & does nothing for Christ.
Clapping is Biblical and honoring a man of God is Biblical- so wat's the problem?
"O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph."Psalms 47.1
"Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour." Romans 13.7
Pastor Hyles was not hated for his scriptural stands. He was wrong to want and accept the adulation of man. Even our Lord while here on earth did not accept the praise of man and did much in secret. It is wrong to give praise to anyone but God.
Unfortunately you didn't respond to the part of my post about what Jesus Himself would want. How many times did he tell the disciples and people he healed and helped not to say a word to anyone? He even told the disciples not to worry about what others were doing in His name, but to do what he had sent them to do. While there may be some that hate Jesus and love the world that is no reason to elevate a man to a status higher than the shepherd that he was supposed to be.
You are right. That's a big problem in IFB circles. We are following a man, not the God-man. And some of these preachers are good men, godly men. But we need to be careful "lest ye fall." Did Hyles fall? I think it's clear he did, but he got away with it because he's such a big person. He could get anyone to do or say anything he wanted, just because he was Jack Hyles.
It's not my place to judge Jack Hyles or his ministry. All I am pointing out is that IFB have for too long followed men and mega-churches, these same men and mega-churches point out all that is wrong with everyone but them. When they do so they set themselves up for a fall. Pride goeth before destruction and a haught spirit before a fall. That goes for politicians, church goers and preachers
There is a fine line between honour and exhaultation. Furthermore how can you defend that sort of hyper-adulation? Dr. Hyles and many of his sort held themselves to be the self-appointed "fruit inspectors" of many ministries, but did not like the same scrutiny. Read Mark 9 and tell me how Jesus would approve of worrying about what other people are doing in his name. Dr. Hyles was responsible for the people that he was the shepherd over and will be held accountable for his actions.
Wow so this really happened in the name of Christianity. It is really true that Jack Hyles was worshipped. If only Christ could be praised and worshipped instead. If only He alone could be magnified. This is man worship and it is WRONG. This is not biblical - if you think it is read Isa. 2:22. Man is nothing in the sight of God.
from what I remember Dr. Jack Hyles was a kind and gentle man. I was there in the mid 90's and it was a select few people in his audiences that would give him and what we beleive in a bad name.
Context: This is generally the reception he got when he would make his weekly chapel visit to the college. (Wednesdays)
The adoration of Jack Hyles always was mutated with the Bible - such that if you questioned him, you might as well be questioning God himself. This video reminds me of that with the waving of Bibles as a reception of a MAN.. they truly equated Hyles and his words as being as close to God as one could get.
(yet they made fun of the Catholics for the pope... ha!)
bro hyles is me hero and i know george godfrey is a sob, and anyone who has a problem with dr hyles i will meet you anywhere at any time and use your face to clean the sidewalk just let me know what state and city your in and i will be there on the next flight out you dont believe me? just try it
If you're talking to me, I am only vaguely aware of who Godfrey is. I was simply asking if your comments were intended to be a joke, because I don't think Dr. Hyles, if he is truly your hero, would want you to "clean the sidewalk" with someone's face. I just visited your channel also, by the way. So is Dr. Hyles really your hero, or is this a joke? That was my question. Thanks!
you need to reed what some of the stuff there saying, and its not a joke he was my personal friend and im not claiming to be a great christian, any more questions?
Creepy isn't even the start of it. Honestly, these people wouldn't know the definition of "cult" if it bit them right on ...well, I wouldn't want to offend their sensitive ears, eh?
I was there in the early 90's... I wonder if the cult of personality mantle has completely been passed to his son-in-law.
@BreedsColbys I WOULD REBUKE THE CHEERING CROWD BY SHOUTING IN A LOUD VOICE WITH THE MICROPHONE TURNED UP AT FULL VOLUME: "SHUT UP YOU IDOLRATERS!!!! GET ON YOUR KNEES AND REPENT!!!!'' Good one!

I was sadly and tragically incorrect...(rubbing my temples)....
derka6262 3 years ago
The Lord said He did not come to condemn nor judge but to save. You have no ground nor any sense to say He got his reward and that now in heaven he didn't, were you there to witness that? Idiots either way he was the man, who cares about you bunch of envious losers just look at your lives and see reality!

The most important thing that we Bible-believing Christians must acknowledge is truth, is that God does not share the platform with any man, woman, or child. He either gets all of the glory or none. It is not shared. What is sad is that, Dr. Jack Hyles received his reward/praise here on earth and has lost it in Heaven. We should all beware of pride and vain glory and what it can do to us when out of control.
jasperjacko 3 years ago
He was loved, respected and, rightfully so!! He played around with those college kids as if he were their father and/or friend. That anyone finds something to criticize in that suggests that they are utterly devoid of any common sense.
neaipe 3 years ago
Yeah, played around with me. Made me feel like shit if I didn't act like he was GOD!!! Don't tell me I'm devoid of any common sense. I was there. I lived it. I did everything in my power to make those bastards happy and they still treated me like a piece of shit.

You would have thought Jesus Christ himself walked up on the stage the way those folks were cheering
Luke 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

If you care about people getting saved, then
Jack Hyles is a Pastor you would applaud and
thank God for.
DRbiohazard 4 years ago
but its ok when people do that at rock concerts, thats not a cult but this is!

I'm not going to defend everything Pastor Hyles did or any other Pastor, for that matter.
What I have noticed is that the most vocal cri
tics of Jack Hyles and other IFB Pastors tend
to have zero concern about winning people to
Christ. This is the number one thing that drew
me toward Independent Fundamental Baptists.
I've always been burdened over lost loved ones
and I never could understand the apathy many
professed Christians have regarding evangelism
DRbiohazard 4 years ago
Neither side acts very "Christian" like. Didn't the Bible say love your enemy...???
ChugachChick 4 years ago
Better to cheer a man who stands for Jesus Christ and His Word than an NFL football team
or rock band. I think most of these Christians
were showing support and approval for their
Pastor whom they knew was widely hated for his
scriptural stands. Pastor Hyles was under emense pressure during his ministry. I loved
Pastor Hyles but, I did'nt worship him.
DRbiohazard 4 years ago
Pastor Hyles was not hated for his scriptural stands. He was wrong to want and accept the adulation of man. Even our Lord while here on earth did not accept the praise of man and did much in secret. It is wrong to give praise to anyone but God.
jcinrs 4 years ago
I've wittnessed first hand the hostility that
many Christians have for not only Jack Hyles,
but other Fundamental Baptist Pastors. They
oppose door to door evangelism, love the sec-
ular musicians who hate Jesus Christ, and love
hollywood(another despiser of Christ).
I am not for man worship one iota, however most
people hate to hear sin preached against.
There is also a differance between honoring
someone and worshipping them.
DRbiohazard 4 years ago
Unfortunately you didn't respond to the part of my post about what Jesus Himself would want. How many times did he tell the disciples and people he healed and helped not to say a word to anyone? He even told the disciples not to worry about what others were doing in His name, but to do what he had sent them to do. While there may be some that hate Jesus and love the world that is no reason to elevate a man to a status higher than the shepherd that he was supposed to be.
jcinrs 4 years ago
You are right. That's a big problem in IFB circles. We are following a man, not the God-man. And some of these preachers are good men, godly men. But we need to be careful "lest ye fall." Did Hyles fall? I think it's clear he did, but he got away with it because he's such a big person. He could get anyone to do or say anything he wanted, just because he was Jack Hyles.
trueedge2097 3 years ago
It's not my place to judge Jack Hyles or his ministry. All I am pointing out is that IFB have for too long followed men and mega-churches, these same men and mega-churches point out all that is wrong with everyone but them. When they do so they set themselves up for a fall. Pride goeth before destruction and a haught spirit before a fall. That goes for politicians, church goers and preachers
jcinrs 3 years ago

Hyles actually encouraged this adoration and it was desperate wickedness on his part.

from what I remember Dr. Jack Hyles was a kind and gentle man. I was there in the mid 90's and it was a select few people in his audiences that would give him and what we beleive in a bad name.
deadbang1 4 years ago
Is there any more context to this to explain this video? If so, I would be interested in seeing it. If not, I find it rather disturbing.
patrioticcamerican 4 years ago
Context: This is generally the reception he got when he would make his weekly chapel visit to the college. (Wednesdays)
The adoration of Jack Hyles always was mutated with the Bible - such that if you questioned him, you might as well be questioning God himself. This video reminds me of that with the waving of Bibles as a reception of a MAN.. they truly equated Hyles and his words as being as close to God as one could get.
(yet they made fun of the Catholics for the pope... ha!)

Thanks!
