  • This song is amazing and so is the way you play it! I wish I could play like this!!

  • technique PLUS heart in the music- a fantastic combination!

  • right on. very well done.

  • Excellent technique; no heart; horrid recording.

This young man has incredible potential, but he needs to put some passion into has performance.

  • awesome!!!!!!!

  • This is defiantly the best version i could find.

  • This is great! I've listened to it at least 10 times! What an inspiration.

  • Nice job! I'm playing the same arrangement of this piece in my piano recital tomorrow. It's a very difficult piece, but lots of fun to play. Thanks for uploading!

  • @tenniscrazy2 How did it go?

  • @dhfeld It went great! I didn't play it as well as you though ;)

  • How long time u learn it? :-O :) because this is amazing :)

  • Brilliance! My favorite thus far.

  • That was awesome! I'm 43 years old, and hadn't touched a piano in over 30 years. I started back taking lessons in February because I wanted to motivate my 8 year old daughter with her piano (I don't think my efforts made too much of a difference though). I was given this piece by my instructor to learn, It's the most difficult piece Ive been given to date,( but I WAS always that kid who took a dare.). Wish me luck, because I'm going to need it

  • I've never commented on youtube before but I just wanted to let you know that I think your rendition of Malaguena is simply superb. Great technique, great expression. You've really captured the spanish spirit. I've played piano 8 years and I can't play this piece. Not to be mean, but to those who are asking for a tutorial: if you need a tutorial you are not ready for this piece. This is not easy.

  • I really WISH someone would make a tutorial for this.. There NONE on youtube

  • Brilliant. You do Lecuona proud.

  • I don't know, but it sounded 100% to me.

    Nice job.

  • Extraordinary. Please don't pay attention to those who think otherwise. I have been hearing this composition for 65 years and I can tell. You are great. Keep up the good work.

  • hi, You are the best piano player on this site, this piece is very well interpreted, and You got the good technics, Thank,s for Your nice music, friendly Jacques.

  • Неправильная посадка, кривые руки:) Безобразная игра левой

  • Неправильная посадка, кривые руки:) Безобразная ира левой

  • Brilliant my young friend

  • maravilloso !! muy talentoso este niño!! por momentos le falta un poco de caribe, de vida, y hasta suena ajena, pero es increible que tenga este talento interpretativo...!!!!

  • you are my inspiration. im learning this same piece.. one of my favorites. you play this so beautifully. I hope I will be able to play this song as well as you do. I am 14.. about the same age you were when you played this. You have fantastic skill, amazing performance!

  • good

  • he sits really hunched over and close to the piano doesn't he?

  • Anthony Feldman you play piano like the older masters. A fantastic performance. I think that you hit all the right notes with the timing that Lecuona wanted them played. Congratulations on a superb performance.

  • on page four, don't put your hadn down on your lap, from 1:33 to 2:25

  • Great performance - I love this song!

  • Well I think this case of Anthony is not related at all to any inspiration from the Holy Ghost (as in Spanish we would say). I suspect that probably he had the luck of listening the performance of somebody or a group that has the PROPER EXPRESION, besides most probably he is being very sensible. For instance, you find 1 in a thousand the case of somebody that speaks other language WITHOUT ANY ACCENT. This statistics risens even more in higher proportions as the person is youngest. So in . . .

  • Right, that is why I gave him 95% and not 100%, but still for a 13 Y.O. kid that probably never went to Spain, this is remarkable!!

  • Dad here. No, he has never been to Spain or Cuba, or Miami for that matter. He's 16 now. I would be curious to see how he would handle the piece at his current age, given his much better technical facility. It's a great showpiece and performance encore.

  • Not bad, although it did kind of lack expression in parts.

  • . . . melody. I went through 50 or more playings including the most professionals or virtuosos and Anthonys was the best. In contraposition if you are curious you can visit {Liberace play Malaguena}, where you can see that virtuosism by itself doesnt help you at all (I left a note there too). I hope Anthony keeps playing his music in the same fashion: With plenty of spirit!!

  • . . . a bunch times with their music and go perhaps to the bullrings to hear the salero expressed in abundance in those pasodobles played in those occasions. Well, I said that there is few exceptions to the generalization that I made. This is one. Anthonys musical expression is full of Spanish flavor (at least in a 95%). There is plenty of expression. I wanted to give the recording of a very well played Malagueña to a friend, so that he could understand the proper expression for this . . .

  • . . . that music with its proper expression. The notes are there, THE SPIRIT IS NOT. Malagueña for instance played by the best USA or european orchestras or soloists, I find out always are lack of flavor, lack of salero ([salt] as the Spanish themselves would say); while any simple Spanish or Mexican band or orchestra (or soloist) will play it with plenty of it (salero). Other example: I admire Pavarotti, but I detest his singing of Granada for instance. He needed to go to Spain and party . . .

  • I had discovered that for playing properly the music of a given culture, you have to be from that culture, so you have the feelings and the expression that your growing up in that culture creates in your soul and spirit. There are few exceptions to this. For instance, talking about Spanish music in general and this melody in particular, If I hear the most famous orchestra or soloist playing/singing a given piece (or this), in 99% of the cases the foreigners are incapable of expressing . . .

  • Excellent playing by that young man. Pacing was superb. Thank you very much indeed.

  • Bravo!!! Thank you so much for sharing this video with us. Keep up the good work. I'd love to hear you play Siboney, also by Lecuona. Thanks again. Never stop!!!

  • Bravo!Of all the pieces to master you chose the one that touches ones heart and soul," for its unpredictable rhythms, notes spanning every octave to represent every emotion, and sporadically placed crescendos amount to an unparalleled masterpiece."To be honest, the above critique was plagiarized by me, I incorporated her words from an email. Her? She's a very beautiful fan of yours, If I possessed your talents Anthony, the girl would be mine. Peace.

  • wow you sound really great you did a great job very musical!

  • very good..Anthony

  • WIN!!!

  • Wonderful!

  • This is one of my favorite pieces and it's a joy to listen and watch you play it. Bravo.

  • Excellent performance, better than many. By thr way, when Lecuona himself played this he would do some legatos, I guess when the mood moved him. This young fellow does it too, now and then. I wonder if he hear a recording by the Maestro Lecuona. By the way, Lecuona was gay, but of course he never was as flamboyant as Libarace

  • hello, could you tell me the fingering of the accurate arpeggios at approx 2:00 ?

    Kindest regards from France...

  • :O Como tuu faaz issoo? Do you do thiiss?

    Oh My good... *-*

  • BRAVO !!!!!!!!

  • amazing. good job.

  • Supremely wonderful. Thank you for the wonderful 4 minutes.

  • Very nice! I feel like I want to try this piece now. Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks!

  • Anthony, this is fabulous!!!!!!!! 5*****

  • Has great technique, but I don't feel the passion. ~

  • Hi 1spicygypsy.....

ah, but consider his age and accuracy!!! nice, big sound too! The passion will come as he experiences more of life :) That's one good thing about being old!

  • Anthony!!....Just Superb!!!!! If I close my eyes.....there are quite a few instances that the sound and style of Liberace come through!! I can only pray....that in my lifetime....I am able to see someone with the talent and gift of the Great Liberace. Please keep us up-to-date!!

  • wow! Thank you for the beautiful performance. It somehow reminded me of my country, Cuba.

  • Of course, this piece from the greatest Cuban composer of all time: Ernesto Lecuona‼ Saludos de otra cubana. ;)

  • =] you're my new favorite pianist

My mother will always be my mostest(haha) favorite, but you've made my list man! Keep up the hard work, you're doing a great job d:)

  • damn.

  • AWE-SOME!!! I haven't heard it played that well in years!

  • Great listening. Good job!!!

  • How can you be so hypocritical? You completely contradicted when yourself genius. Get a life and go somewhere else with YOUR racist comment, because this isn't the place for it.

  • That was RAW SUN! You got some crazy nice gift there homie! I bet it sounded ridiculous in that room. The fidelity of a Youtube video does not do it justice, you need a Walt Disney Concert Hall...

  • WOo, what a performance!

  • Just WONDERFUL! I'm gonna learn this one!

  • This is beautiful! I'd love to hear you play some of my compositions one day. I have a couple on my youtube page if you wanna give a listen.

  • What program are you using to write your music and to generate the playback? That's very cool.

  • Just Sibelius 5 for notation, and im using the Roland Edirol Orchestral sound pack.

  • This young man has an amazing talent...Trully amazing...Looking forward to listening to more performances by him...

  • What a moving performance

  • great job. keep up the good work. i still play this music once in a while. it's a good piece to stretch and practice. it's not an easy piece though.

  • Great job. keep it up. i still play this once in a while. a good music to stretch one's rusty fingers. and it's not an easy one to play.

  • Anthony, you did an amazing job keeping this very difficult piece under control with tempo and dynamic shaping. A fine job...I hope to hear more of your playing on you tube. i am just starting to learn this peice, you are such an ineration to me and make me very excited and anxious to learn more of this peice! you are an amazing pianist!!! great job!

  • Very nice playing but I suggest you eat a couple sandwiches and get outside for a while in the sun. =)

  • aha ... ha .... ahaahaaha! :-)

  • Odooob0 what a racist comment, lol

  • You're amazing McLovin!!

  • Fuckin awesome, im learning this piece on the trumpet... this is an amazing piece, and you are very good at playing it.

  • Sir this is a 13 yr old. Please do watch your language!!

  • dude, i was 13 once, i got high all the time...

  • wow. i am working on this peice, and i really, really, really hope that sometime in the future i will be able to play this like you! you are simply amazing! :) CRAZILY, INSANELY AMAZING!!!!

  • That was good. How are you going with the chords at bars 95-102 (piu mosso)? E#C#G# quite a stretch or do you arpegiate them? I am trying to figure this out myself. I would also recommend listening to recordings of Thomas Tirino and Cristiana Pegoraro playing this piece. And of course Liberace!

  • Wow... You're REALLY good! My piano teacher just gave this to me and I've yet to work it out... I can't believe you MEMORIZED it! Wow...

  • you've definately inspired me.

    thank you.

    :)

  • Very nice... You seem to have a great fell and touch on piano

  • wow, I learned this song before, but you play it way better

  • Oh! I can't wait to see how you mature as a musician! You have beautifully relaxed hands until you hit the octaves in the right hand and then your entire body stiffens up. If you can learn to relax through all that mess, you'll have a lot more fun - and it will be easier. Please keep posting more music. I love it!

  • o by the way i meant to say insparation*

  • i am just starting to learn this peice, you are such an ineration to me and make me very excited and anxious to learn more of this peice! you are an amazing pianist!!! great job!

  • Lecuona was such a great composer. You should listen to Rapsodia negra (black rhapsody) it is just as powerful as this piece. It really shows how great Cuban music was in the 30's and 40's.

  • Wow, that is impressive

  • how long did it take u to learn this?

  • Anthony, you did an amazing job keeping this very difficult piece under control with tempo and dynamic shaping. A fine job...I hope to hear more of your playing on you tube.

  • impressionnant ! c'est la première fois que j'entends cette musique jouée au piano....

  • Merci ! En fait, Ernesto Lecuona a écrit cette pièce originalement pour le piano.

  • how long did it take you to learn this??

i'm wondering cuz i might do this for fourhand but i'm not sure if i'll have enough time..

    really good btw ;)

  • your amazing yo, I use to listen to my mom play this song 3 or 4 times a week. My grandmother and my mother are both excellent pianist, I cant stand listening to people play the piano unless they really can play, and Ive been listening to you play for a couple hours now, thank you for your hard work...it's much appreciated by me as well as many others! I wish you the best of luck

  • You are an excellent pianist 5 stars from me. Everyone has their own little section/selection on "You Tube"and I am glad I crossed over into yours. My best wished for your future.

  • Just Amazing, Bravo 5*

  • too much pedal, lack of dynamic contrast, rest is fine

  • what model grotrian is that and how big is the room

    exelent playing as well!

  • It is a 192, which is roughly 6' 4". The room is small in square footage, but it has a very tall peaked ceiling (about 17'). It is a very live space, and the microphone in the camcorder probably makes it sound even brighter.

  • I learned to play this when I was a kid at school and haven't played it now for over 50 years. That really took me back. Many thanks

    Rory

  • What fingers did you use when you went down the piano at 1:13? I'm self-teaching myself this and it's not working out, lol.

Btw, you're like a billion times better than me and and I've been playing longer than you. x)

  • Hi, URSublime: my son is away for a few weeks, but I'll ask him to give you the information about fingering when he gets back.

  • i am absolutely amazed i hear this song from my mother and i absolutely adore this wonderful piece you play divinely plz keep posting more classical pieces alos just watch out for speed control when playing the broken prelude chords in this pieces otherwise very good

  • You are great, I love this!

  • i just got goosebumps

  • Awesome job! Sounds great!

  • ouch....

that was amazing. Thank you so much for posting this! I just started playing this song and needed a reference to listen to, and this was the best one I could find. Beautiful.

How long have you been playing? 13 and already music this difficult? I feel so inferior.....

  • I have been playing for about 6 and half years. Thanks for the compliment.

  • Fake!

Haha, I'm kidding. Great job, I love this song!

  • Magistrale interpretazione bravo.

  • Get your hands insured! Awesome! All the best with what must surely be a very bright future!

  • good job!!

i played this when i was your age too.

    but your performance owned mine.

    lol

  • Very close to the original. Excellent!!

  • very good for your age, I played this when I was thirteen too, and it is not easy, musicaly, or techniquely (I know thats not how you spell it, but I'm too lazy to find out the right spelling :) anyway, good job.

  • wow very touching and poetic, creative and as if you are talking thru the piano:) all the hormones of puberty add such a color:)))) enthusiasm and freshness, drama and pazzaz

  • this was great!!!!!

    you have amazing talent!!!

anyways, i was just wondering where you got the sheet music, so if u can message me, that would be awesome!!

  • I bought the whole Andalucia Suite. I don't remember where we got it, but it might have been SheetMusicPlus.

  • thanks!!

  • I love this song. You should play some of the suites of Joaquín Turina; but this Malagueña is fantastic. Congratulations!

  • Just joined youtube to leave a comment for you. My mom played this and while growing up I would always watch her fingers and be amazed at how fast they move. She is no longer here and I watch this at times when I'm really missing her, today was one of those days and I just had to tell you - Thank You!!

  • Wow, thank you, I really appreciate that you feel that way. This is a great piece and I'm happy that it brings back fond memories.

  • Bravo!thank you,from Greece.

  • Wow, we learned this piece at the same age (which was 4 years ago for me) But I have to say you are much better than I was. Great job!!!

  • AWESOME ^^

  • I really enjoyed your interpretation of "La Malagueña". You must continue to play the piano and give us more of your artistic talent.

    Nino from Puerto Rico

  • genialllllllllll...

  • Great job!

  • AWESOME VIDEO!!!! my piano teacher told me to watch this vid..

  • i stopped taking lessons about 10 years ago, right when i got the sheet music for this, your video makes me want to start up again and learn it

  • Much more well-played than when I learned this piece.. and 5 years younger than me too. Very nice!

  • Thanx from Malaga(Andalucia)Spain,I love

  • You're playing the same repertoire I was playing at your age.... You have a great feeling for the instrument. Keep up the good work!

  • I am impressed! There are very few things to nitpick here, but what an unbelievable accomplishment for one at such a tender age! The technical abilities rival those who are professionals! Bravo my friend! Bravo!

    Again I say;

    I am impressed.

    ~Dreamsavvy~

  • Im proud congrats for a well played piece.

  • I LOVE IT Keep Up the good work Your are gifted musician hats off !

  • VERY good... your clarity is impressive.. that's a VERY difficult song to master

  • any1 know where i can get this song for my mp3? Im looking for a version with a trombone solo by a Dick Sheers or someone with a similar name. Please help, im playing this song in marching band and i play trombone!

lol i can play it, but i want to see his style

  • You need more emotion, got skill, but no emotion. MOVE with the music, please.

  • Pharaoh, he is playing piano not dancing. Yes, some people are too technical and lack originality & creativity. But he seems good to me. There are also great composers who don't have orgasms with the piano and are tremendous.

  • :-) :-) After seeing Lang Lang in concert last year he did a creditable imitation for a while. We had some fun with that. BTW, he plays a somewhat different interpretation now, one that is a bit more Cuban-flavored and more rubato.

  • 上手すぎる!!!

  • Such control!

  • great job!

  • So Spanish !! superb playing!!!

  • Awesome, Good job.

  • 上手すぎる!!!

  • Thank you, I think! I think that translates into something like "very skillful."

  • hahah very nice !!!

  • *Stands*Applauds* BRAVO!!!! BRAVO!!!

  • Thank you, folks.

  • Impressive. What a great dad you must have.

  • The best piano ever!

  • Wonderful intonation. Keep it up!

  • Nice excecution! How long have you been playing piano?

  • It'll be six years next September.

  • Excellent! :)

  • Very nice! If I were you, at the place with the single note melody and arpeggios inbetween, marked Lento I think, play with more rubato and expression in the melody and greater dynamic contrast between melody and arpeggio. Other than that, really great!

  • Awesome!
