It's actually not necessary to use a 301k ohm resistance. If you have a potentiometer around you can use any slightly smaller resistance (I used 220k ohm) and just increase it to 301k ohm. Obviously you'll need a multimeter to check the resistance, but anyway it's just another perfectly valid method.

I did this after wasting a whole afternoon going to the city and coming back just to find out they gave me 100ohm and not 100k ohm.

OMG , i used 3 100k resistors at first and tried to connect the copper wires but it sems quite difficult and after an hour of trying i gave up , then i found an old nokia micro usb to usb cable and unskinned it plugged the header and connected the resistors to the ID and ground and my samsung galaxy s2 !! yes s2 went into download mode erasing download counts . THANK YOU! for only 0.99 :P

OMFG IT WORKED!

Took a while, it kept turning on into the boot loop (at&t logo) but I read through the comments and realized it was because i was hitting pins 3+5. Readjusted and managed to get the right pins in under a minute.

I've got a question too... my download mode worked when I tried it for the ifrst time... when I put the mobile device with odin3 on, but nothing happend, I pulled out the usb cable and got the battery out. when I tried to start download mode again, it wouldn't work! just the startup screen appeared!! I´m am so mad about this cause why would the download mode suddenly disappear... I really hope you know the solution!

@1q2w3e4r5t6mm You are one pin off, if you hit pin 3 and 5 it will turn the phone on. Re-adjust your jig and try again. I did it right under a desk lamp to get a good look into the port, but I have also heard people using a magnifying glass as well.

Make sure when you connect your device in download mode, you have odin3 ALREADY open and no other programs running besides maybe your browser. If it fails the first time, unplug your device, close odin3 and re-open it and then reconnect the device.

u guys are retarded ur phone can be bricked and still go into download mode just hold the volume down and power and home until download mode pops up if it dosnt work then try volume up, power and home until download mode comes up.

@laughsideproductions You are correct, but this is the last resort for people who have the 3 button fix disabled on the rom or firmware, or who have somehow managed to kill the boot loader.

I came up with this fix when odin3 froze while reflashing the stock rom and killed my bootloader, I tried EVERY button combo method that had been listed on xda to get the phone into download with no avail, thus this method was born off of the original 301k resistor method of hacking up a usb cord.
