  • Poor Dave. Who's this hack?

  • HE IS MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!

  • HARVEY IS MY GOD!!!

  • Who is this harvey guy and why so weird?

  • Letterman makes me sick.

  • this guy was a punk rocker

  • Letterman always bullies his guests, especially Pekar. I know his joke is to poke fun, and do a humorous back and forth, but he's, at the heart of it, just kind of a bully. And the audience is on his side, which makes it work for him. Whenever Harvey would make a little jab at Letterman, the audience would chuckle. But when Letterman makes a joke at Harvey's expense, the crowd goes wild. Little GE puppet.

  • R.I.P. Harvey. You earned it.

  • I never saw Harvey as being disrespected, the joke was he was a bull in a china shop working schlub that lucked into a little fame and didn’t really belong there (this we pre reality show era). He was in on the joke so you laughed with him not at him. What was Dave supposed to do? Sit and talk jazz lp’s and politics with him? Audience would be asleep inside of 30 seconds. Lay off Dave, he paved the way for more quirky offbeat late night show humor.

  • @zettadom You fucking dunce

  • Anyone paying tax, buying stuff and collecting pay is a cog in the corporate gulag, so is Dave, albeit a highly paid one. We’re all corporate stooges. If Dave made a personal decision to not let Harvey back on I would think less of him but we don’t know if it was his decision. I hope Dave said “I love you on the show but can’t have you calling out my bosses, I could get fired” and maybe Harvey said I can’t do that Dave. Dave, like all of us, can't just do anything he wants.

  • @zettadom That's a fascinating insight into the mind of a broken serf. You've actually internalised the lack of dignity and integrity enforced by the system. You're a victim of Stockholm syndrome, just an uncle Tom workin for de massa, pathetic.

  • @nilbud Where the fuck did I state how I felt about our corporate enslavement? I only commented on the hypocrisy of those complicit with the system condemning others. Note: Look in mirror. You contrived up a critique in order to pose and posture as more radical than me. You're sooo much more anarchistic than me. Yeah, I'm impressed. BTW Where did you get the money to pay for the computer you are using? Unless you're living completely off the grid you're part of the system.

  • @nilbud I understand the inherent contradictions of living in an exploitive system and have come to terms with them. Harvey felt his media participation entitled him an opportunity to express what he felt were more important issues, maybe in a perfect world it does, but the media doesn't allow anyone to do that. I respect Harv for giving it a shot but he, like all of us, goes through life doing what he needs to do to survive. Advice: Try not being a pathetic poseur, life will be better.

  • play him off, keyboard cat

  • Yep that's what big entertainment does, they down play reality for cheap laughs. RIP Harvey, you were the real deal.

  • I never heard of this guy before, but he's friggin awesome!

  • Fuck dave letterman. sheep ass dbag

  • Fuck you, Letterman......Thank you, Harvey. You continue to stick up for people like us. The little guy that gets kicked around, until you came around taught us to kick them right back. Rest well, Harvey.....

  • Pekar was one of his best guests.

  • Wow, this isn't how they portrayed it in the movie, which was a much more intense and confrontational situation than what we see here. Also, Pekar had to be one of the least sympathetic people I've ever seen in a movie that wasn't about a murderer or criminal. Jeez.

  • Reminiscent of Andy Kaufman...

  • folks, you don't understand...harvey pekar was just another character from andy kaufman

  • @tripfontaines86 From off the streets of Cleveland comes Andy Kaufman's American Splendor? :-P

    No I don't think so

  • Letterman is such a fuking douchebag

  • Not gonna lie, I love Pekar and what he does, but all this aggravation is a stunt. He does it for the cameras the same way he does it for his comics. It really works for him, though.

  • @XxXHellbringerXxX The only issue he has with his perception of reality is that it is not impeded by bullshit

  • *THE* Letitia Baldridge?1?

  • Fuck off you idiots. The guys a fucking stoner dick. You dont come onto someones show and be a rude prick. Plus he's a weirdo who clearly has some issues with his perception of reality.

  • @XxXHellbringerXxX "Fuck off you idiots. The guys a fucking stoner dick. You dont come onto someones show and be a rude prick. Plus he's a weirdo who clearly has some issues with his perception of reality."

are you sure hes got the wrong perception? or is he just so open to the truth that he doesnt let shit slide. sure its rude and depressing but hes honest to the CORE with himself and everyone on his views. THATS a quality you wont find in american TV. the Plebs dare not understand him

  • not saying hes 100% right, but hes honestly searching for truth and doesnt care whos toes he steps on. plus he knows how the game works, just look how hes shutting letterman down, he knows the game. mans got balls, the average joe needs more of him. inspiration. just an average dude, trying to live as best he can with his depressing personality

  • yuppie freaks

  • I hate anti-trust laws, they're 4 commies. they want u 2 think corporations r big evil entitities, when in reality they provide society with jobs, goods, and services. 2 quote Craig Ferguson, I look forward 2 ur letters.

  • as odd as harvey may look he seriously is a smart man

he ousted lettermans attempts to make a joke out of him everytime... amazing

he makes letterman look like a childish cunt

  • Harvey Pekar: When you're right, you're right. RIP MR P.

  • The only thing Pekar does wrong here is not speak commandingly and clearly enough. His heart was in the right place, but his head didn't have a plan.

  • I find it astonishing people are even searching for any depth in this series of conversations. Harvey Pekar wrote some comic books and was antidisestablishment and Letterman is a talk show host. Harvey Pekar's attitude is ignorant and very boorish and he delivers nothing of any surprise. Letterman just does his job amicably in the light of an incredibly rude guest. The conversations between Michael Parkinson and Mohamed Ali are of much more rigour, emotion and genuine intellect providing a far

  • @kierenlythgow blah blah blah

  • @kierenlythgow If you were as astute as you think you are, you would know that some comedians are indeed great philosophers. If you would listen more closely instead of trying to sound so "deep and discerning" you might learn something. You come off as ostentatious, I'm only using that word to show you how pretentious you sound. We can learn from ants, children, spilled cups of milk, and yes Harvey Pekar and Letterman. I find it astonishing that you don't know that Oh Wise One.

  • @k2peak360 Yeah yeah yeah

  • harvey pekar was a fucking genius. They should have offered him more money to do a talkshow.

  • "Its a drag going on and doing simple minded bullshit!" I love it.

  • Oh wow, this is exactly 2 years before I was born.

  • Letterman was very respectful, unlike Harvey. The movie completely twisted this. Harvey showed no class.

By the way, G.E. hated Dave. Harvey was barking up the wrong tree.

  • @opennewscast hard to show "class" when you bringing such a message (as harvey did), so i dont think he did anything wrong.

GE hating Dave? no sure about that. he was just another employee.

  • @opennewscast Yea, carson liked letterman, and he was pretty much why letterman was kept around. Dave was more of a tool back then, as oppose to the CBS days, the movie certainly sides with Harvey. NBC should have released it, because, letterman does his job well, and harvey does what he wanted just fine too.

  • Go gettem Harv. I lived an hour away from this man, wish I coulda broke bread withem

  • Letterman deserved every second of this.

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck that cocksucker Letterman, eternal ass suck and house clown to the scumbags who control American society.

  • Harvey said "Number one, they're being sued in Ohio because they sold these bad nuclear reactors..."-

Look at the Fukushima reactors in meltdown 14 years later!

    See fukushima-mark-nuclear-reactor-design-caused-ge-scientist/story

  • @sdtech100 true at Fukushima all six reactors were designed by General Electric, I am guessing the design flaws are common amongst GE nuke plants. I'm glad i saw this video, I could see how Dave was actively trying to protect GE.

  • If I could be at a bar, listening to jazz and drinking away the tears.....I'd want Charles Bukowski on one side of the bar, and Harvey Pekar on the other...

    Two great men.....godbless, gentleman.

*takes a shot of Jack Daniels*

  • A real hero of REALITY television.

  • i bet dave really agrees with harvey now...

  • definitely a man ahead of his time...

  • @cw6983 lol yeah sure ahead of his times pfff

  • @unfortunatebeam harvey exposed letterman for being the sell out jerk off that he is..at a time when most bought into letterman's bullshit I am cool persona

  • good times...

  • a great American, profound and gentle. the closest we have come to anyone telling Letterman what a narcissistic shallow douche-bag he truly is.

  • The appearance in the movie was more of a combination of this one and the next one. This is where he started the GE stuff, but the next (and last for awhile) was the one that Dave really left him have it in the way depicted in the movie.

  • whos GE

  • Funny how it was not much later that Letterman himself would be badmouthing GE.

  • @therling that was in a joking matter though :)

and he did back at NBC as well. He was the host of the program.

Harvey should probably have promoted his stuff instead

  • It's jarring seeing so one so real not schilling anything on tv.

  • I like Harvey but Letterman had the right to be pissed

  • godbless that man......only he'd tell me to take my blessing and shove it up my ass :)

we still love you, harvey....thank you for giving us the truth

  • Harvey was ahead of his time in warning America to beware of GE.

  • harvey pekar is a beacon of truth

  • These things are great because they show just how big of a dick letterman is. Especially the next one where he tells him he'll never be back, and calls him a nerd, and a gnat because he wont be the silly nothing that dances for the stage. Its reminiscent of john stewart on msnbc.

  • @fleanationjo Which one is that? Have you got the date so I could find it.

  • HARVEY IS GHETTO

  • What a great sthick. This guy was a sick puppy. But was always funny as hell.

  • @john9944 He spoke his mind...why does that make him a sick puppy?

  • Pekar trolled the shit out of Dave.

Damn, he died on my birthday. A bad surprise that was :(

  • I don't think that's the interview from the American Splendor film.

  • This segment wasn't nearly as inflammatory as they made it out to be in the American Splendor film.

  • Just watched the American Splendor movie. It's so sad, funny, and uplifting at the same time. I loved it. Wish he was still here.

  • If Pekar and Bill Hicks taugh us anything, it's that Letterman's nothing but a corporate blowhard. Oh well, at least he's better than Leno (but who isn't?).

  • @bwc3821 well said!

  • @bwc3821 Amen, brother . . .

  • @bwc3821 Bill Hicks loved Letterman, anyone in comedy does. He wasn't happy about his set being taken out but he respected and loved the man

  • @AWrulez

Loved Letterman ? ... where did you get that idea from ? Bill went on the show to promote his material.

  • @d33pS3Ad1v3r Interviews on Howard Stern and other shows

  • @AWrulez

interesting! ... they're not on youtube by any chance ?

  • The Dancing Waters!

  • Pekar was an incredible straight man, sooo funny.

  • God I just found out he passed away. On the same shit my doctor had me on. R.I.P.

  • I want to know what they said in the commercial breaks, and what they said when they shook hands afterward.

  • Fuck Letterman. Pekar is king.

  • Pekar seems like such a dick in all his interviews.

  • "Let's go to commercial, then we'll get to some issues."

  • @TMAT09 You have a right to your opinion but Harvey was a smart man and had a lot of valid points to the things he said and despite what you think, Harvey did have happiness but chose not to dwell on that in his comics. He at least was honest and upfront about how he felt about things...particuarly with Letterman.

  • great character

  • To be honest, I do not know Harvey Pekar well enough to make any valid claims about his humanity. From what I've seen, it appears as if he was a really depressed person who felt like life dealt him a crappy hand. If this is true,it's something we could all learn from. Folks, no matter how bad things get in this world, our time in it shouldn't be spent in bitterness and anger and isolation. Otherwise we will all be dead before our bodies are literally put in a grave.

  • @xyPERSON Pekar had more life in him than Letterman ever will.

  • @TMAT09 - Life is bullshit. That is truth. Happiness is an illusion. That is truth. It is a feeling, and feelings come and go. You can sustain this illusion for as long as you can; you should, it's a beautiful illusion, and all it does is cover the truth that life is bullshit. You must endure life, and to do this you must find sanity, not happiness. It's not giving up on yourself, it's giving up the illusion to find something real you can live with.

  • @EaterOfHumanFlesh lol typical emo crap. Grow up. Life is not "bullshit". That's YOU putting YOUR feelings as a label on it. Life is life. You make what you want from it.

  • @Eater Of Human Flesh Partially correct about happiness being a feeling that comes and goes. This is of course relative happiness. A materialistic version of happiness. We all know that matter is finite. Therefore relative happiness becomes fleeting. Material trappings cause it to come and go. To understand that the finite material universe is manifested out from the infinite spiritual universe is to understand that absolute happiness does exist.

  • @TMAT09 I agree with you there! But people think they're such intellectuals for sticking up with him!

  • Pekar was such a bitter man!

  • Letterman- another crass arsehole- and what a braying moronic TV audience- that might tell something about the nature of mass media TV.

  • @TMAT09

That's why he talked about the truth and your a minion for arseholes and you have fuck all of an iner-life. Thats why he's a depressive, because of idiot morons like you- and that's why your a cunt.

  • hes kind of just retarded, which he obviously is to some degree. Fucking child.

  • i like daves big girl laugh quite funny.

  • this reminds of the John Lydon Interview with Tom Snyder.....LOL!

    Letterman was/is such a tool.

  • First time I ever seen Letterman act like an idiot.

  • este tipo era de verdad, we must remember you

  • @wOnderlAnd8697:Like I said before, nobody has to pay attention to LeBron James at all; if you don't want to hear about him, just change the channel when he 's mentioned on TV, or turn it off. But to be using Harvey Pekar's death to malign Lebron James is petty, spiteful, childish, immature, and mostly stupid. And being so wound win you friends, just enemies.

  • @Neville6000 Who the fuck is this Lebron james? I'm guessing he's black with that name?...anyway, never heard of the guy but Harvey Pekar was a genius.

  • @TMAT09 Expressive cunt who had the guts and balls to devour the best and worst of life in its very soulfull trenches of the mundane and extroadinary mad heaven, so go fuck yourself twice over and smell the shit of your life through your fingers and till the time you taste it, go fuck yourself two more times and chew the nails of your fingers.

  • RIP, Harvey

  • In the 80s, Letterman was the most subversive thing on television, but Harvey was the only guest who ever really subverted him and got away with it.

  • david letterman is a douche

  • @esperanza1234 no, he just doesn't kiss his guests asses.

  • Wow, Letterman is a douche.

    R.I.P Harvey

  • I've been reading this man's work for some time. This is the first time I ever saw his appearances. Good stuff. RIP!

  • R.I.P. Harvey

  • just learned he died 2 wks ago, bummer :(

  • this is GOLD!!!

  • miss you harvey.

  • You were the best, Harvey. R.I.P.

  • how totally rude of dave to call harvey impolite!

  • huge huge loss

  • Rest in peace, Harvey. You'll be missed.

  • Like a certain other people in the entertainment Letterman has been a scumbag, he fornicated with his guests, sold his soul for money and pleasure..

perhaps he had a tough childhood.

nevertheless...God is always ready to have mercy upon those who change their heart... :-) In pace requiscat, Mr. Pekar.

  • a hero

  • R.I.P Harvey :(

  • @cha5 Fuck. I didnt know. Shit man, this cant be possible.

  • He's dead?

  • @boru25 yes it was pretty recently. i think late last year.

  • R.I.P

  • Another person who shouldn't have been on David Letterman, going on David Letterman. Why?

He should been on Tom Snyder's show, instead.

  • @Neville6000 Ok, so I think by now everyone gets that you have some issues with Pekar. So how bout we stop trolling and scuttle along to another Letterman vid so the Pekar fans can enjoy posting about him without you ruining their fun. RIP Harvey.

  • RIP Mr. Pekar. You were a great writer and human being.

  • I wonder if Dave realized that Harvey made his point very well about doing a network show where he can't and can't let his guests seriously talk about his moneyed overlords.

  • RIP Harvey

  • Rest in peace, Harvey.

  • To hell with LeBron. Pekar was Cleveland's true native son.

  • @gezelligtexas That's the greatest statement I've read since breakfast.

  • RIP Harry ..we'll miss you sir

  • I never liked Letterman, but Pekar was a good guest.

  • Letterman loves a good controversy on his show and usually can handle it, but he really showed the limits of his sense of humor that night. "Don't make my borderline-criminal bosses look bad, Harvey!"

After this, Harvey could leave the show with a clear conscience. He had done the right thing. He's a modern-day hero.

  • I've seen you here!

    hahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!

David Letterman is a simple minded retard.

The audience he has are all his cousins.

  • I wish when Dave started accusing Harvey of being rude, Harvey would have had the presence of mind to say that corporations killing people with bad policies, products and procedures is not only rude, but criminal, and should be responded to by the government with justice. maybe he did say it and Dave overrode him.

  • Goodbye Harvey - we loved you.

  • Cleveland lost its real hero.

  • @BabylonAGoGo:Get this; to most Cleavelanders (white & black) Le Bron James was a hero-Harvey Pekar is a hero to YOU and other like you-all of whom are in the minority.

  • @Neville6000 Lebron james is boring as fuck. At least Pekar had shit to say.

  • @polkafrenzy666: For white people like you into underground comics, yes. But again, you are in the minority. And using Pekar to beat up on LeBron James is just petty, racist, and uncalled for, plus it won't get you anything but insults. James simply is popular because most people love sports; that's not a negative or a positive, it simply is. And you don't have to pay any attention to him when he's on TV, either.

  • @Neville6000 Racist?! Because someone likes Harvey Peckar more than Lebron he is labelled a racist. Grow up.

  • @AVGP40: Yeah, keep running down that river in Egypt on that one, pal. It's you and all of the fans of Harvey that need to grow up, not me. I just stated what is, is-you can either accept it, or not. But either way, leave James out of it. And don't accuse people of playing 'the race card'-if racism exists, it should be exposed, and that's what I'm doing.

  • @Neville6000 Not true. I really like Lebron, but he really did himself a disservice by the way he left Cleveland. I understand if he wanted to move on, but the really took a low class, f-u approach and rubbed it in the face of a city that loved him and made him very wealthy. All he had to do was forgo the BS and we would have understood. He did it to himself--it was a very immature move and bad advice from his inner circle.

  • They don't make 'em like this anymore. We'll miss ya Harvey.

  • RIP Harvey, one of Lettermans all-time greatest guest.

  • RIP.

  • Harvey, we will miss you.

  • rest in peace, Harvey

  • RIP MR PEKAR

  • WE ALL LOVE YOU HARVEY, RIP.

  • RIP Harvey Pekar !!

  • RIP

  • wow does he ever make Letterman look bad

  • This may have not been 'scripted' but it is still an 'act' he's like Andy Kaufman. People couldn't tell reality from the joke.

  • This is the kind of interview that happens when someone doesn't have a handler telling them what to say or how to act.

  • @TRE1275 Yup and Harvey acted just fine. Letterman is the retard.

  • RIP Harvey!! You were one of a kind, and I love how unimpressed you were with this show--biz phony...

  • RIP Harvey. By the way, General Electric is still an evil corp that needs to be stopped, incase anyone of you idiots is still paying attention!

  • @jnwestray78:Sorry, but nuclear reactors aren't THAT evil, nor is the construction of diesel-electric locomotives, light bulbs (which GE still makes) or medical systems, evil! Find another enemy to bash.

  • @Neville6000 GE is also a major defence contractor, they profit from war. They also defrauded the Pentagon and were fined $69 million by the U.S. government for doing so, in fact they have repeatedly violated the False Claims Act, worst record of any defence contractor.

  • @digimaton: So is Daewoo (when it was around), Samsung, BAE, Bombardier, Thompson/Thales, and a ton of others whose products you probably buy? What's your point, and why don't you live like a hermit in the forest, then?

  • @Neville6000 that's like saying "I dislike Mc Donalds; therefore I hate food." A logical fallacy. Defence technology and war corporatism are not one and the same, despite you attempting to paint such a picture.

  • @digimaton: You have me mixed up with somebody who gives a shit; I don't. GE is just not that biog a deal for me to be getting pissed off about-as I said, they did (and still do) great things as well as the military stuff (so do a lot of other companies mentioned.) If you don't want to use any products by them, go become a hermit. As for Pekar, he shouldn't have been on Letterman in the first place-NPR or maybe Tom Snyder would be more to his liking.

  • @Neville6000 let me clarify; there is no mix up, it was very clear from your initial outpouring that you are someone who does not give a shit. Let me reiterate: to state that one dislikes Mc Donalds does not imply that one hates food. Defence technology and war corporatism are not one and the same.
