Are you using a window manager besides kwin? It seems like you have some sort of tiling going on... is that my imagination, or a new kde4 feature, or did you just turn of window decorations? I'd really like a titiling window manager, but the one's I've seen aren't very easy to use or not very useful, besides, they're not kde, haha.

I have just switched off the decorations because I needed the screen space. I do this very often - especially with Gimp (kWin can remember the decisions about specific window options so for the things you need, you almost have tiling)
