the e46 csl weight about 1260kg, while the regular e46 m3 1470kg.

The new coming csl in 2010 is going to be 470hp(+50) and about 100kg leighter.

If you know the marvels of modern technology, you would know that weight doesn't matter that much anymore. The M3 and RS4 have very athletic chassis, and their suspensions are perfectly equipped to deal with the weight. The RS4 and M3 can easily outhandle the lighter more nimble Stis and Evos... I've driven both.

true. . . and how interesting they accelerate equaly, i say equaly because before the race started, the audi driver was almost 1,5 car lenth ahead of the BMW, so that means 420 HP of Audi is 360 HP of BMW. There is another video here where this Audi RS4 (420hp) goes against his horsepower equal the latest Bmw M3(420hp), well in that video the Audi loses the race seriosly. . . never the less i love Audi as well as the Bmw, they are great cars, realy great automobiles in their unique way.

The difference is because the M3 CSL went through a campaign of weight reduction before it came out. So the BMW is easier than the RS4 and that is why what you said happened. Like this, they could test the new RS6 with the new M5, where the RS6 has 250 more HorsePower, so it would be quite the same.

Yes, the Audi was about a car ahead in the beginning, but I was expecting a harder pull from the Audi, and I'm surprised that the CSL kept up pretty well.

There's inevitable difference in the hp rating, (I believe the csl has around 350-60 and audi has 410ish) so yeah, up top, of course the audi will pull on the csl.

however, i'm sure the CSL is much more exciting to drive on the track.

pretty damn close, B7 is "officially rated 4.8 seconds, and B5 is rated 4.9, both can do 4.3-4.6 with great launches. B5 is 135 pounds lighter, has better power curve, has 8ft/lbs of torque more at 325 to 317 in the b7. And its only 33 peak hp down on the B7, with 387 to 420. chip them and the b5 wins every time.

I wish they would race from 0-250 with every race, then did the rolling start to see the difference. But when they do the rolling start make sure the cars are even. Its hard to catch up to a car if it gets the jump. Especially when these cars are in the same power range. It just doesn't make sense to have these cars race and not be lined up.

The CSL is quick starts when the 50 km / h up because it has little weight, 200 km/h after RS4 is more fast! The other video in summer CSL win because is more fast in low speeds up to 200! After RS4 is a bit faster than CSL

Well, the easiest, most effective way would be to have standing starts, though I can sympathise with the owners of the cars not wanting to have their cars subjected to that abuse, and also I can see the 4WD cars gaining an advantage over the RWD cars and FWD cars. I would say the best way to do it would just be to stay level until the line, not having one car cruising 10 yards ahead of the other.

That's because the RS4 is a saloon with things like a stereo and air conditioning, unlike the bmw. The csl is much lighter than the rs4, which still produces 100 hp/L.

The RS4 1:25.8, M3 CSL 1:28.0 (same time as a Roush Mustang)on the top gear test track. Not only that, but the S4 is over a second quicker than the regular m3 around the track.
