Aplastic anaemia is a rare, potentially life-threatening failure of haemopoiesis characterised by pancytopenia and hypocellular bone marrow.1,2 Aplastic anaemia is defined as pancytopenia with a hypocellular bone marrow in the absence of an abnormal infiltrate and with no increase in reticulin. Most cases are acquired and immune-mediated but there are also inherited forms. Environmental triggers include drugs, viruses and toxins but most cases are idiopathic.
Hey, I was diagnosed with aplastic anemia 3 years ago, treated 2 times with antithymocyte globulin (from rabbit and horse), danazol, filgratim, cyclosporine and everything you could imagine without response. My doctors dismissed fanconi's anemia 'cause I dont have any of physical abnormalities relates in fanconi's anemia, but when im trying to enter in a clinical trial, the test for fanconi's anemia was a requisite and was positive... so probably is a good idea do the test...->
@Danielo202 Hi I was diagnosed back in 1988,they gave me everything that they gave you,the last thing they gave me was the horse drug it seemed to work for me cause it kicked in and i have been fine since.

@sbibian I know the feeling, my mother was one of the first to have it back in 1957, she was also the first ever survivor, it's through her survival that I have hope for my everyday issues
i understand what you and your family are going through. my son was diagnosed at 16 months old. this was back in 1993. he was one of the first patient that was diagnosed with this then. he is now saved by his younger sister. i was pregnant at the time and she was the PERFECT match. the transplant was very successful and he is now cured. stay positive.

It is when the bone marrow fails to reproduce causing all 3 bloodlines to deplete; white cells, red cells & platelets. The only known CURE is a bone marrow transplant.
I was diagnosed with SAA last summer at age 16. Curtis, you are lucky to have a bright spirit - that will help you get through the hard days. Something that has helped greatly for me is called TransferFactor Plus. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Hey Curtis, i was a little younger than you when i was diagnosed with aplastic anemia and I survived. I'm 20 now and haven't had any related problems. Don't lose hope, it will get better. It's gonna be hard at times as I'm sure you already know but stay strong. Good luck buddy, your in my prayers.
My daughter was 9 when she was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia. I know exactly what you are going through. Contact me at keith.m.jackson at gmail dot com if you'd like to know more...
