  • Even in karting Prost shows his tactical thinking: )

  • K1 indoor karting eat your heart out!

  • Senna's go kart couldn't handle the pressure...:)

  • 6 of us don't know what '2-stroke engine' means...

  • This video made me sooo happy

  • I have never seen karting so intense. It just shows the difference between that generation and this. Today, drivers hold the wheel like its a fine delicate object, back then, the wheel looked like it was almost being ripped out of their hands. Its savage and brutal.

  • No team orders, no driving-aids, no big money - pure motorsport

  • Comment removed

  • Man, look at Senna's kart control......SO AMAZING!!! You see the real differences between Senna and Prost in the way they approach this race. Senna wild with corrective oversteer and Prost fast and smooth. I'm really happy i found this video.

  • They need tremember how to tune an air cooled reed engine

  • Simply spectacular! The speed, Senna and Alain...! Spectacular!

  • Hey Ayrtonsennafan you always have a chance! I started racing last year, I'm 14, Prost started racing at 14, get a kart! Get on the track! Anythin is possible! Karting is amazing and you should really push your parents to let you race!

  • what a legend ;)

  • Prost is like an AI player set on 120% strength - you leave some room for him to overtake and he wins the race lapping you twice.

    F1 hero

  • prost's advantage? he weighs 90 pounds lol;

  • @zak4829 LMAO!!!

  • antone know if schumacher and senna raced in go carts or in the same car?

  • @ArtificialRed1083 De Crasheris !!

  • @martyr2005 And secondly how the fuck could someone snipe Senna in the head whilst he's doing 190mph? LMAO not even some crack SAS sniper could do that 1st try.

  • @martyr2005 Are you out of your mind ' a supersonic bullet' LMAO it was a piece of upright that pierced his helmet and his skull, not some government hired assassin, that theory is ludircous. and if someone had shot him where would they be positioned, the grandstand? LOL

  • I'm 14 and I love Ayrton Senna, when I watched he film I cried because its to late to become an F1 driver, I would give up anything to even have a kart and a chance to drive as best as I can :(

  • @AyrtonSennaFan97 What are you talking about? Prost never drove a Kart until he was your age. Jackie Stewart started racing at 21. Bloody hell, Graham Hill never even drove a car of any kind until he was 24!

  • @zuss10r There is hope! I also found out that Piquet only started driving karts when he was 18, he did it away from his parents as they didn't like the idea. But still, the drivers now have a HUGE amount of financial backing, my parents aren't poor but they would rather put their money towards me going to university, pisses me off :(

  • Man, nice pass by Prost at 6:02

  • All the best drivers come from Karting, look at todays F1 line up, Vettel, Alonso, Button, Hamilton...

  • Grande Senna, teve azar

  • I love this video because I am sure Senna and Prost are having a lot of fun! No politics, no money, just pure racing.

  • what is this and why dont they still do it now

  • @nunchuckerz Because Alonso would smoke everyone

  • @jronson22 I agree. If Alonso took part in a karting competition, they-d have to make him do 1 more lap.

Ferrari need to be so thankful to him. I wonder if any other driver in history would have been able to put that Ferrari on the podium 12 times. ^_^

Well, maybe Senna and Prost! And Fangio, imagine Fangio, 80years-old, swiping past everyone XD

  • @jronson22 I think you have your head in the clouds! Alonso would be competetive but he'd struggle with this duo.

  • @nunchuckerz this was an all-start event held every year at Paris-Bercy (the same place where the supercross event is still held). in the same style of this event there was also a supermoto race held in a similar track in the same venue with riders of both supermoto, motocross and GP/Superibkes

btw, if you want to see a kinda similar event, search for "All-stars GP", which will be held at Palau St. Jordi in Barcelona and will have many F1 drivers, legends, rally drivers, motorbike riders...

  • @nunchuckerz

The karts they use now are electric too. One of those wouldn't have let go on Senna like that two stroke did XD

  • @nunchuckerz This EPIC race was back this year with Loeb, Ogier, Grosjean, Vergne, Chandhock, Di Resta, Sutil, Pafett, Bourdais, and many others ;)

  • this is very nice, Prost and Senna were like Batman and Joker, they couldn't live without each other :(

  • lol. They really need to ad go karts to the race of champions. Or have a mandatory karting race for all F1 drivers at the beginning of the year

  • LOL. The commentator jinxed senna. He should have not said anything about senna not winning.

  • I remember watching those races on Eurosport back in the days. Good times!

  • You can feel Senna's character from his driving style! Pushes 105% into corner everytime!

  • SENNA THE BEST EVER, IF HE ALIVE HE WAS 5 TIMES CHAMPION OF F1

SCHUMACHER ONLI WON 7 TIMES BECAUSE SENNA WAS DEAD.

  • @tiokq85 Hell, even if Prost stayed for two more years Schumi wouldn't have been 7 time champion. Schumi only won because of lack of great competition, combined with a good team and car, fused with endless determination, and will. Yes without a doubt Schumi was an amazing driver, that is not to be disputed, but in no way was or is he the greatest.

  • why would someone dislike this video??

  • it was very nice to see senna vs alain in gokarts! thank u for the upload!

  • I love karting such great fun! Even better when you get to watch guys with so much talent doing it!

  • Prost whooped sennas ass

  • @rpby82 Only because Senna's kart broke.

  • @rpby82 No he didn't ! Senna wasn't on the track for half of the race !

  • To c0nv1ct1337 , what about the F1 drivers saying that Ayrton Senna was the best of all ? Even Shumi .

  • Prost always behind Senna!! SENNA THE BEST FOREVER!!!

  • The guy waving the flag is a stupid cunt... What a drive by Prost.

  • I would be extremely grateful if you'd tell me names of these racing events so I can run a search and, if I'm lucky, download them.

    Please, make me happy :)

  • What engines did they used?

  • Alain Prost was the more decorated driver, but Senna was the purest driver there was. All conditions he was was fast in and his heart was the biggest, too.

Both were magnificent drivers, but only one was a true Champion of the World. RIP Ayrton Senna.

thank you for posting this amazing video of the purest racing there is!

  • Aside from driving in rain, I found Proust to be a better driver then Senna.

But of course, because of Top Gear, 80% of the people here saying Senna is the best don't even know who Proust is.... But hey, let jump on the bandwagon and be cool right? (sarcasm)

I'm curious how this would turn out if it was Proust that had Senna's attitude and he died in an F1 accident instead of Sienna. I figure he would be the one hyped up about today.

  • @c0nv1ct1337 It's PROST not Proust

  • @eloria1965

Yea, the spelling of his name is even in the video title haha. I had a brain fart making that comment.

    Nevertheless, my point still stands.

  • @c0nv1ct1337 I agree with what you say and i just want to add just one more thing.Senna had his dark side too, just ask derek warwick whose career took a major hit, when ayrton set the dilemma "me or him" to the team(and of course they chose ayrton!).Also he took out prost at suzuka's first turn.

The fact that he was untimely killed should not blur our judjment and make us forget his "human" side!

  • Who on earth would dislike this video O.O

  • senna SIMPLY THE BEST

  • Brilliant! I had no idea about this race until the article I just read in f1racing magazine, which actually sent me to this video! :-)

  • Thumbs up if you stopped the video after Senna retired :p

  • Fantastic. I remember watching this live on Eurosport.

The vehicles may be a little smaller but the competitive spirit is every bit as strong as it is in the BIG cars !!!!

  • @tonypap1 yes it it, schumacher said that the only race cars you can compare to formula 1 is go karts. because they are so light and directly as f1. Senna also said: if someone can handle a go kart well, he can also handle an f1 car!

  • Prost know save his mechanic. It's his biggest skill. :)

  • When is this kart racing? is it after or before Prost won his 4th titles?

  • and prost wins once more. NUmber 1

  • Can someone tell me what exactly the name of these karting event was ? I think it was a lot more interesting than the Race of Champions today.

  • they should do this instead of "the race of champions" this would be so much more fun.

  • @mgammeren exactly what I was thinking!

  • Senna and Prost, you will never see anything like those 2 Gods racing again.

    Amazing

  • remenber my first race pure battle

  • Go-karts can be adjustable in several ways, working both on the engine carburation and lubrication, and for the chassis, possibilities of setups are numerous, including its overall rigitity. Tyre pression also counts, and Prost was excellent in setting ups and race strategies, all combined to a great driving talent. 51 wins and 33 poles against drivers like Alan Jones, Arnoux, Lauda, Senna, Mansell, Alesi and Hill as teammates, and Piquet, Rosberg, Berger and others in other teams.

  • Here there is the Prost racing repertory: Studying car and race, studying the rivals and than the lead. Soon the flight and then managing car! Impressive stuff!

  • Prost's tactics, just like in F1 : first observing while managing his tires, then attacking and going faster and faster, reaching his "flying mode" (in some GP races he became faster in race than in qualifying !)... Senna appreciates with a smile, but what a shame he retired so soon ! If you are yourself a young kart driver, watch this video every morning for breakfast. Bon appétit !

  • @hoplageis57 I couldn't agree more with that last sentiment.

  • where happened it?

  • @TiagoWakabayashi Bercy stadium in France

  • @hacajaime thx

  • @TiagoWakabayashi france

  • @laser1ish thx man

  • 100cc 2 stroke were king of karts not these new rotax max crap they got today

  • Prost is amazing. Mechanical failure for Senna's car ruined the Senna-Prost battle :(

  • This is freaking awesome !!!

Thanks for uploading the video mate :)

  • Dunno about you guys - but sometimes it makes me angry how good these guys are haha!

  • THIS IS BETTER THAN F1

  • Look at how Prost goes faster and faster throughout the race : he tries out several breaking, turning and exiting lines while keeping in his mind only the better ones. So he progressively starts to accelerate and eventually... begins to fly ! That was His signature -just like in F1- and Senna hated it, so yes : we definitely could have seen something truly great going on here without that stupid mechanical failure...

  • @BarneveldDarts .. And you are an IDIOT !!

  • I guess those two would have raced against each other even if they only had child scooters to ride.

  • these carts are pretty nervous

  • don't you have more movies?

  • I love how the narrator laughs when he sees Senna and Prost battling, just like in F1.

  • Prost was the only driver to take a fight with Senna that show how great he was.

    1.Senna

    2.Prost

    3.Schumacher

    4. Fangio

  • Senna

    Prost

    Fangio

    Alonso

    Hammilton

  • Fuck yeh!

  • Ayrton Senna Will always be #1!!!!!!!

  • OH POOH!!

    =(

  • Senna was better ..

  • Senna was deffinatelly an awesome driver and an exellent person as well :)

  • It is not true that in 90 Senna had the best car for all season. Prost had almost in the middle of season a best car.

Prost was a great driver but Senna was better. Prost had a lot of political strategy that don't make part in the sport ...

  • Prost lost the tittle in 84 for Niki Lauda and win in 85. Senna in his first year with Prost won a championishp.

    In 88-89 Senna 14 x 11 wins ... (with Japain 88 and Monaco and Monza 88): Senna 17 x 11 wins.

In 32 GPs Senna finished 22 and Prost 27.

    These are the numbers ...

  • In 1988, Prost scored 105 points (1st and 2nd in every race other than his 2 retirements at Silverstone and Monza) and Senna scored 94 points and won eight races, but only the 11 best results counted, so Senna had 90 points and Prost 87. That was a stupid system they used back then.

  • @hmdwgf

Probably you didn't live this period. But the drivers adjust their efforts in order to win a championishp with the rules. It is clear. Until Japain Senna win 8 x 6 Prost. Senna make mistake in Monaco 88 and was not blamed by the result of Monza 88. So with this another two wins. Senna reaches 10 x 5 of Prost in 88. This is a great difference.

  • The bottom line is that Senna was fasted in qualifying consistantly. Prost however was the greater tactition and conserved his tyres better throughout the race and was less reckless when passing traffic. In 88 i truely think Prost deserved to win the title which eventually went to Senna on some stupid rule. Furthermore in 90 Prost in the Ferrari had not as good a car as the Mclaren, yet hadnt Senna barged him off the road in Japan he could have won that title also. Prost could have won 6-7 tles

  • @berniemoonbeam : totally agree with your comments, thanks for posting!

  • 1988: Senna - 13 poles, 8 victories; Prost - 2 poles, 7 victories (the last victory in the last race, whit Senna already Champion) and you say that prost deserve it???? Did you watch the races at that time???? Senna was the best in that year, and deserve it. In 1990, even Prost win that race in Japan, Senna will be the Champion finishing the race in second place....And Ferrari had a good car in that year, but not in the next year (1991) and Prost could not fight for the Champ.

  • And another thing: In 1989: Senna - 6 victories(7 if you count the race in japan, that Balestre disqualified Senna), and 13 poles; Prost: 4 victories, 2 poles....Even Balestre, in the end of his life, says that he "give " the Championship to Prost. And the rules are made BEFORE the Championship, not after....Its the same excuse that a Football team finish the group phase in first position, and loses the finals....

  • @TheMazaro

    @haydondres

Perfeclty and Senna in 89 had four consecutive retirement by problems in the car... Prost had a help of Mansell that crash with Senna in Portugal 89 and also the help of Ballestre. Prost was very dirty and unfair in 89 crash his car against Senna and in 90 closing Senna. Why Senna need to freak his car ?

  • i reckon alot of F1 drivers prefer racing karts to f1s

  • The purest form of racing. No aerodynamics, no active suspension, no skirts, no telemetry, no wing adjustments, no fuel mixtures, etc. Just pure skill...

  • You certainly have a point, but on the other hand this is far more easier than driving a car with 900 hp.

  • Well you are right, it's not childs play. I have done it also so I know it:) The pace is indeed faster, F1 circuits are very large and certainly the racing against the other drivers is far more intens. You also have less possibilities of making errors. But let's just talk about the handling, not the battles or the track. A kart is easier to drive, you don't have to be 'easy on the throlle', you can go almost always flat out. You can also countersteering more easly than with a 600kg car:)

  • *throttle

  • "you don't have to be 'easy on the throlle', you can go almost always flat out." Wow! A 250 shifter kart has almost the exact same handling characteristics as a formula one car! Acceleration and deceleration to include G loads... What type of kart have you "raced" ? I'm talking chassis and engine combination...

  • Rotax-Max 125 cc..., and yes indeed, braking is needed, maybe "almost always flat out" wasn't the right expression. Let's say: "far more often flat out than in F1". I never wanted to minimalise karting, all i wanted to say was that F1 is CERTAINLY more difficult.

  • No doubt F1 is way more difficult due to over sophisticated systems and their management.

  • The only kart that can be raced and not need to lift is a 50cc kid kart. ALL OTHER KART RACING ABOVE 50cc REQUIRES TRAIL BRAKING, THRESHOLD BREAKING AND THROTTLE LIFTING IN ORDER TO BE COMPETITIVE BECAUSE OF THE POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO. All of which is used by F1 drivers...

  • @davidsimsjr55 There are wing adjustments, Senna was always talking about the wing during his karting period

  • Other than superkarts I know of no other karts with wings...

  • Thanks for posting, I didn't even know this existed. It was nice to see Senna and Prost racing in the purest form. No aerodynamics, no active suspension, no skirts, no telemetry, no wing adjustments, no fuel mixtures, etc. Pure skill. that was fun to watch.

  • @4JayeP Glad you liked it :) yeah that was an equal conditions race! F1 should be like this

  • @Malarkey555 NO F1 should NOT be like this. Because in F1 equality dosent matters . F1 purpose is technological development of the cars , teams and manufactorers. F1 is one of the biggest car commercial if you want. An equal conditions will make it a drivers battle and thats not interesting and not profitable.

  • @subaruWRCimpreza WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU ON ABOUT!?! A drivers battle is way more exciting it's about the skill of the driver, finding the grip, pushing as hard as possible to find the win! This is still entertaining but is now as much of a battle of strategy and science as it is about driving. Equality would be better.

  • @4JayeP I do believe this kart events were held in Berci until back in the mid 90´s. They exist no more I believe. Much to my sadness :(

  • @4JayeP there is still fuel mixtures high and low jets but as you said, much more competition.

  • Prost won... as usual.

  • are these ICA engines sound amazing ... shame it failed on senna's kart ... this looks an awsome track wish i could of driven it

  • That was a brilliant run from senna! He kept his line to prevent any attempts for other to pass. I'm sure it was his win if the kart woulda hung in there. Congrads to Prost (2nd place) on his win

  • Good vid, I didn't know this existed.

I grew up loving the Senna-Prost duels in many of the races (occasionally Piquet, Mansell & Hill), Senna always got a thrill out of knowing Prost being right around him all the time, and it's pretty clear in this video when he keeps looking behind him.

Philbitu, Senna was best in F1 hands down, had natural talent and skimmed every track and pushed his cars past the limits. The only other person was Grant Hill to ever do this.

  • Not Grant HIll, I meant Jim Clark.

  • Prost winning Senna as in F1 :)

  • Great stuff, not seen this before, didn't even know it happened! Thanks for posting!

  • You're correct paleyellowrainbow2 on several topics. The problems is that Senna "fangirls" always claim a "complot" favouring Prost and against Ayrton. This guy josecho24 shows all his ignorance on the sport, specially in the proper way to rate and understand a driver: He is whining now because Senna lost in France Bercy 1993, due to mechanical failure. Racing is like this. Now, Can you, josecho24 explain why Prost won 6 races in Brazil (and several podiums) when Senna won only twice? COMPLOT?

  • Hi Lucianno buddy, how are you?

  • and remember who was the only driver who insisted year after year on safety issues till the day he passed away.

  • i agree about taking care of the machine, but, i think Prost never had the balls to compete head to head with drivers like Mansell or Senna. He was too "gentleman" to get his suit dirty in a driver fight for the win, and still i think he was one of the best, even better than schumacher. F1 one is a dangerous sport and if you don´t understand you have to risk your life for a win better not to drive anymore. Every winner from Fangio to Senna said it. Remember who said "i can´t do it anymore"??

  • plus... don´t you think its suspicious senna and de cesaris blew the engines in FRANCE, driving against PROST? and then, when Prost was being challenged, Gounon came from nowhere one lap down! and help him. that frenchman always needed help to win races or championships. Remember his GOOD FRIEND Jean Marie Ballestre...????

  • the team favoring senna? do you know what you are talking about? first, it was prost´s team for years. second, prost always accused senna had a better car till one day he said it out loud and one of the engineers said "yes, that´s true. because he was setting his car all day till 11pm while you threw the towel and went watching tv". prost knew how to preserve a car, that paid off at adelaide 86, but what he didn´t know was how to win against all odds with any car (that´s for schumacher too)

  • Damn josecho24, your quotes about Prost are a real disgrace. While Prost used to test and develop a car for the pre-season (3 months), Ayrton used to take his famous 3 month long vacations.... Why? Simply: Prost was there and He would do the work for him.... Until 1989.... Prost never helped Senna from 1989 on....

  • DeCesaris would have won that race if his car didn't break. Very impressive stuff from the F1 crash-master.

  • damn this is almost as fast as F1... obviously not as long, but it's so quick...

  • lol

  • Just looks like it is cause the track and the karts are so small ;)...but ye moderns 125 6speeds go up to 230kmh...the 250s go up to 270 even

  • Although Senna loved go-karts more than any other driver I know, he was never World champion. Well, De Cesaris, one of the all-time worst F1 drivers (simply kept crashing), is a former go-kart World champion. Little interesting some might not know: Senna used to cover the carburetor air intake with his hand while taking corners in order to go faster through.

  • All professional Kartmen do this to enrich the mixture.

  • could u explain why that helps? or do u know any websites that explain it please?

  • It enriches the air/fuel mixture, so you have more fuel/less air in the combustion chamber=more power, but for a short while.

  • ah i see. but normally there is an optimum ratio of air to fuel, so the carburetor should be naturally set up to have that ratio without having to put your hand in front of it.

  • You have to get the poorest mixture possible to have better performances, that means that the engine is not wel lubricated (2 strokes = lubricant mixed with fuel), so they cover the air intake to lubricate the engine, not to go faster... in french, covering the air intake is called "graisser", which means "to grease".

    Cheers.

  • Why someone thumb down lazerpod66's explanation? It's EXACTLY as He describes it!!! You can do it, getting an extra power for some time (like the old turbo boost button). If you enriches the air fuel mixture in a karting all the time, it would be like pressing the boost all the time: the engine would collapse due to fast overheating, or simply a connecting rod, a crankshaft or a valve would blow away......

  • Indeed, if you keep the air restriction for a longer time, the engine would have no air to burn the fuel, and the engine would stop. Conclusion: you can enrich the mxture for a while, having a power gain, and then the engine should "breath" again to keep alive.

  • You know nothing and it shows....

  • True.

  • Love this. Thank you.

  • Good times... I miss you Senna!

  • u can watch the full race on google

  • Thank you for posting this! Too bad the early part of the race is not on there. Jean-Marc Gounon was a treat to watch... REALLY going sideways, kicking out the rear of the kart... t'was fun to watch. :)

  • For one reason or another, you can see here why Senna and Prost were the BEST!

  • avrebbe vinto ayrton...

  • But he didn't...

  • Jesus this is too fast! :O Nice to see Prost win :)

  • Brillaint thanks for uploading!

  • Karting is the crack cocaine of Motorsport, iv been looking for this race for ages, thanks a million for uploading it!

  • look at you people, arguing whos the better driver... its a go-kart race im sure it was all for laughs and not for bragging rights. they both probobly laughed about it the next day and joked about how senna woulda beat him and prost sayin yeah right, dont think so. ahh the good old days.

  • You know not much pal. At the moment, driving the karts, Senna Prost and everybody's competitive and racing juices start flowing and the racer's instinct takes over immediately, they are very competitive nature these top drivers. Sure, they laugh it up AFTER the race, but ontrack, it's a different world. To them racing is racing.

  • during an F1 race, im sure. but here id guess it was all for fun.

  • Competition is Competition to them. It was done for fun, but they drove the karts like the world championship was on the line anyway. While your in the kart it never changes.

  • Typically the only way prost could beat senna is if senna suffers a DNF... it even happened in this race!! the only driver who made a mistake was prost at 45sec he goes wide and loses a position to de chesaris... senna is so briliant he slides the car effortlessly soon as he's out the pits to warm the tyres asap while still staying aheadnever losing time!

  • It is a typical Prost victory but not true that he only beat Senna when he broke down. One of the best racing seasons in my opinion is 1989 where in equal machinery Prost and Senna battled wheel to wheel throughout the season and Prost held his own. I do think
