  • I love when he realizes he's dreaming while talking to that girl....and he's talking about talking about a dream in a dream.....that seems vaguely familiar to me, I think I may have done that before but can't quite remember

  • I first saw this about 3 years ago and thought it was awesome....I then recently watched it again a couple more times in the past few weeks and got more out of it this time around. As my consciousness expands, more of it clicks for me in a deeper way, plus I notice more subtle nuances of the film, little bits of graphics that I may have missed before. Such an awesome movie!!!

  • yes, i know. the movie is great.

you look and sound pretty damn high, btw.

  • I love Guy Forsyth's funny yet sad anecdote about how people trade their waking--and dream--life for minimum wage.

"Did you ever have a job that you hated and worked real hard at? A long, hard day of work. Finally you get to go home, get in bed, close your eyes and immediately you wake up and realize... that the whole day at work had been a dream. It's bad enough that you sell your waking life for minimum wage, but now they get your dreams for free."

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE I WATCH IT LIKE EVERY TIME I CAN REMEMBER. its so much i love the lady who talks about the spiritual communion and words. this whole movie was just great

  • hothothothothot

its refreshing to see such an attractive, intelligent, and articulate girl on youtube

im gunna watch this movie now

  • i know you've heard this before like a million times...but yeah

  • I have to write an essay for this film and compare it with a clip called Deadsy :(

  • the director isn't the one driving the car he's the one in the back seat telling the driver where to drop off the guy

  • i read somewhere that the lady who talks about language actually wrote the script for before sunrise. and yes i meant before sunrise not before sunset. that's the second part.

  • @taliajazel fun fact

  • awesome movie!! awesome concepts!! and awesome yard!!

  • I find you hot, why is that? I question my self. after watching this movie I am high..it's a serious question why you appears to be sexy while I don't find few sexy ..or few may not find you sexy

  • damn, whenever I want to find a clip from that film I end up finding this vid :)

"let my own lack of a voice be heard"

  • it's an amazing film, and i'm glad that you and so many others have enjoyed it as thoroughly as i. :))))

  • your funn

  • this movie was my favorite for awhile and made me think about thoughts and where they go and what they affect. wish we had more movies like this. eye opening and thought provoking. has anyone met up with somebody in a dream?

  • theres other thing in the whole meaning of the movie which was connected to lucid dreaming that was out-of-body experience

  • Will you marry me?

  • This movie is amazing! Definitely a new favorite! I watched this movie while I was on mushrooms... Ho-ly fuck!

  • Er.. Linklater wasnt the one driving the boat car in the beginning he was sitting in the back seat

  • From the comments below, It's shocking that people are only just discovering this movie. Better late than never I always say :). It would be nice to find a forum or irc channel to discuss different people's opinions about it. Send me a message if people are interested.

  • yea, it's my new favorite movie :)

  • where do you live?

  • um, marry me please?

  • watch this high. blows your mind.

  • i cant find a movie that is the same type as waking life.. like a cartoon.. maybe you know what's the name.. the trama is about a veteran who is trying to find out the identity of one of his friends in some war.. he remembers a few situations but he can't remember the face of his friend.. so what he does is go and find everybody who was in his batallion.. maybe its a russian movie or from some part of asia because of the language .. the movie ends with a real film from some war.. do you knowit?

  • that movy is" waltz with Bashir". it takes place during the war btwn liban and Israel, the soldiers are from Israel. "some part of Asia", you american are realy lost when it comes to the rest of the world hu? no offence, I'm glad you appreciated it....

  • @matydrum

i am american but not from united states.. i am from southamerica.. from a country named Argentina.. i see you are from britain.. we have common history in wars.. sadly.. very sadly for us actually.. and its nothing against you but i think you dont know anything about us.. and we know a lot about you..

  • I live in London but I'm french, not british, and sorry for my agressive comment, I just can't get over the lack of concern for the world that most people fom anglo-saxon countries have, most people I met in England and U.S. could bearly find their own country on a world map, they don't even know the capital of the countries next to their own one, and the worst is that they realy don't give a shit, fucking capitalist zombies!!!!..... Sorry......

  • @matydrum, no hay problema man, we all know how most of the yankees only look at themselves..

  • marry me

  • You are Hot-

I want a woman who is AWAKE! Is there anymore out there LOL?

  • @Hail2TheChimp1st of course there are. and thanks :)

  • You are Hot-

  • Meditating, is to dream lucidly.

But requires practice and sacrifices, like the way you feed.

  • I really wish people would pay attention to these types issues. You don't understand how important this information is. Its a revolution of the mind. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION

  • @Doubleshot98 i totally agree. many people are very blind to so many things in the world

  • A lot of people have been calling this movie "mind blowing." They may have felt that way, but for me that isn't really the term that best fits it. Personally, i found this movie consoling that there are others that have thought about many of the things that I have. Throughout the entire movie I would catch myself saying "that's exactly what i was talking about the other day." It also helped me expand on my own ideas which is the goal of an intellectual.

  • @LetsGetWilly it is great for those reasons for sure. it makes you feel like you are not alone in a world that that happens all to often in

  • watched this last night... a really good movie! I've totally had lucid dreams before where I couldn't wake up and it felt like an eternity, just like in this film. Anway, I think you can rationalize happiness (or unhappiness) through philosophical discussions but there are highler planes of consciousness, like the neurosomatic circuit, where you should strive to be. The rational circuit is useful but it can be a trap (or a bad trip). Don't live inside your head ALL the time...

  • @pwillits80 glad you liked it!! i think you can rationalize it for sure, but it takes work. work that a lot of people arent willing to put in

  • I watch this movie at least once every 3 months. It seems to get me back on track when I feel my life is losing meaning.

  • @Kibsterz good call

  • This is my favorite movie ever. I've watched it at least 5 times in the past year, and every time I watch it I learn new things. I just realized I've also never watched it high, which I need to do.

  • @BryanEKS89 it is sooo good. i should watch it again soon for sure

  • @KatharineJovey

    you better do that soon!

  • @KatharineJovey take some LSD and watch it

  • @BryanEKS89 lol watching it high would make your head explode. It's too deep

  • theyre not new concepts... but either way, amazing film. if you wanna open your mnd even more to philosophical ideas etc, try some hallucinogenics. DMT opened my mind to a lot . a lot of philosophy is inspired me hallucinogens

  • One of the most interesting parts of Waking Life for me was that scene when that guy talks in a really boring monotone voice. I didn't really pay attention to him the first two or three times (mostly because it's really hard to) I saw the film but when I did it was pretty shocking. That part of the movie introduces this theory that when we die we sort of become all knowing. Almost as if we are all gods who put ourself into the experience of life to enjoy the thrill of separation and ignorance.

  • my favorite movie ever! richard linklater is awesome

  • @crack809 agreed

  • Such a wonderful and thought-provoking movie. I'll totes have my philosophy club watch it.

  • @possiblymaybenot sweet! do it up!

  • I saw this movie long time ago, i need to watch it again cause it's simply a great movie. i love lucid dreaming i did some research on it after watching inception and i realized you can even control your dreams if you want to. it's just a matter of practice like anything. a guy who talks about it is steve pavlina. google it. Katharine, you're pretty and smart. nice combination.

  • @DavithRedway yea, lucid dreaming is a real thing. and it is fun for sure. but it does take practice for sure. thanks for your comment! ill check that out.

  • hehe the director is Richarld Linklater, and he's not the one driving the boat car, he's the other passenger

  • Saw it in my philosophy class and it was mind blowing. I see your from Toronto too. Do you go to school there?

  • @Kevinkim7 I went to York unfortunately. but im all done there hooray!

  • @KatharineJovey Waking life is one of the most amazing movies ever made; It's profundity is without peer. I owned it on VHS when it was first released and now on dvd. I have watched it many times and those of us lucky enough to have viewed it are part of a great mind collective. Keep on dreaming...

  • very very very well put together and that language part is definately my favorite part of the whole movie. have watch it numerous times and it always seems to hit the spot. i love the way you put this clip together and everything you say flows and makes sense. you have chosen your "words" wisely =P as i watched This clip you've made I was like " Ya! Ya!" so thank you for helping me understand my relation to Waking Life

  • @fightoffyourdemons88 glad you agree with me :) and that you liked the whole flow i had going on.

  • Let's go on a date your approved

  • I'm looking for the chapters so i can watch the whole thing. Where is it? I'm in a script writing class and we are suppose to in small groups watch a film together. This way would be so much easier.

  • @Screamingdk i have no idea where the chapters are sorry, hope you find them

  • @Screamingdk Hey man i think I found what your looking for online

  • ....when i got to see this film the waking of life....the kymatica docimantery....

it was like someone had spy on me and maked my life a movie in both real....and lucid dream worlds...i had experienced once an astral progection out of body experience....whitch it was defenetly The moast dificult thing for me to deside between this two worlds....

As is when sometimes in my dreams i wake and take control of my dream....uctualy i experce another way of realising what is life or the real life...

  • @KatharineJovey well id never be able to stand watching it in segments as you do. Its all one sitting for me, occasionally hitting pause to expand on things as you mentioned. I perfer to have subtitles for this movie due to some of the heavy accents of 2 of the characters but moreover for the fact that every sentence is so informationally dense that I find it good for the information to interact with your brain on 2 levels. Also I have a DMT molecule tattoo (the drug that makes you dream)

  • @OsyenVyeter fair enough about the pausing. also good call with the subtitles. also sounds like a really neat tattoo!

  • I just very recently moved to Canada and I'm very depressed since I yet have no great minded friends to spend time with, and talk about these kinda stuff. People around me like to discuss Lady Gaga's fashion principles and watch cheesy Hollywood movies. I feel so lonely...

  • @midmid Im sure therell eventually be someone youll find. It seems that great minded friends are a scarce and precious commodity these days, now more than ever. Worse comes to worse you may have to resort to the internet. Or a good book. Might I reccomend " a brief history of nearly everything" and the youtube movie "douglas adams parrots the universe and everything" (or it was something like that) and watch the movie "man from earth" There you go, a book, a youtube and a movie.! :D

  • @midmid aww im sorry to hear that. I hope things are looking up now. there are cool people that dont talk about those things out there, you just need to look for them :)

  • Love Lucid dreaming and Love this movie!

  • @2k0ol1 totally agree

  • You discussed your opinion very well. I love this film too.

  • @webgeek6 thank you very much! and glad you love it too

  • parts you fast foward through..... blasphemy!

  • hey can anyone recommend good movies similar to this one?

  • a crazy idea i like to keep in mind whilst watching this movie as a whole or in small segments is that the characters and what they say is all a visual and auditory representation of richard's own ideas and views/opinions on life whether he heard these ideas off someone or read them somewhere these are, in fact, ideas that we all possess in our own minds and by simply watching this movie, whether or not we've had these revelations before all we are doing is reinforcing them, expanding on them...

  • @valacia1991 that is an interesting thought to keep in mind. I try to remind myself that he is dreaming the whole time, so guess that is similar, since when you dream it is all you in there.

  • Loved watching you, and I like the move you did at the end ! haha :)

Lucid dreaming is awesome, I wish it would have happened more often.

My favorite part from Waking Life probably is the "boatcar guy" part, what he says that's just plain genius. :)

Thank you ! I subscribed to your channel so I'm lookin' forward to your other videos. babai !

  • @philinmotion lol yes it was a sweet move. i love in the moment stuff :) the car there still blows my mind. Yes i wish it could happen more often as well. Yea the boat car guy is genius! i love that monologue! thanks for the subscription!

  • fastforwarded? wtf aaaaaa even if ya dont agree you could still listen to it XD

oh dude you dont need years to change cells you do that daily

  • Im only 29 and this movie was amazing :D

well have you watched "The Secret" ?

well glad im not the only young dude thinking like this :)

  • @michaeljt10 i have not, my step mother is really into that movie, i dont know how i feel about it...

  • @KatharineJovey whoops i meant im only 20 haha, not 29.........

but Waking life is pretty good, well really good :)

yea a the secret just a personal growth kind of movie...

wish more pretty girls like you would think like you.........

  • @michaeljt10 they are out there, just hard to find i guess :)

  • I agree this movie should be watched in parts because i was overwhelmed with all the information that i took in. Im an open minded kind of guy and i loved this movie. Im gonna watch the movie again. I loved your review. It was great. All the quotes and speeches in the movie were amazing. Life is a big mystery.......I love it.

  • @michaeljt10 glad you agree and glad you enjoyed the video. thanks for watching!

  • I agree with you that this movie is better watched in parts. It's like a year's worth of philosophy in just less than 2 hours. I'm happy to see young people interested in this sort of stuff. It makes life more fun and stimulating.

Linklater's films make me want to dream more and re-experience what I saw.

  • @CrunchingDragon glad you agree. it is a lot to take in :)

  • great review. I just saw this movie a couple months ago and absolutely became my favorite. I´ve been searching for info and bios of the people behind the speeches, and most of them are phylosophers, doctors, etc. The guy in glasses talking about evolution is a transhumanist scientist, very very brilliant.

    I just love this movie.

  • @RoKk01 thank you so much. It really is great! Interesting, ill have to look more into them as well, they sound wonderful. Some of them must have books or papers

  • The first time I saw this movie I was tripped out on mushrooms and was unaware about the fact that this movie was going to be animated or thought provoking. I worked at blockbuster at the time and just used one of my free rentals on a cool looking cover box. While I was tripping thought itd be cool to put on a movie I knew nothing about. .... wow was I in for a suprise.

  • @xGrayGhost45x i bet, it must have been some trip lol

  • These symbols that words represent can be studied at the School of Metaphysics. You can learn the meaning of symbols called the Universal Language of Mind, or the Language of Pictures. My dreams and other peoples' dreams make sense with this language. You can go to dreamschool[dot]org and learn more about it. Life is a Dream, inerpret the symbols and live your dreams. night

  • @bdmenne how very interesting! thank you for sharing!

  • I keep having dreams where I dream that I'm having lucid dreams. Does that count? Really want to know what you think. The film was was extremly unique.

  • @donnato sure it counts :)

  • Slacker is his first official movie, low budget and filmed in his own town.

If you want to see Slacker, let me know what you think about it then :)

  • Hes not drivin the boat car...hes in the back seat. And the philosophy in that scene is from Taoism. Lotta eastern philosophy in this movie...not that you didnt know that already...just sayin. This is the BEST movie ever though.

  • @armandahammer really? i was told it was the driver and the pin ball guy... or i feel like i looked it up on imdb. but you could be right. yes there is a lot of that philosophy. it is a great movie!

  • Thanks for uploading this, Waking life deserves more attention!

Bytheway, i watched it at once, not in parts but im glad you liked it!

    You ever seen Slacker?

  • @Mescaline1337 no i have not, should i ?

  • Damn your sexy and smart where do u live???

  • @Johnissingin89 lol thanks, canada

  • Thanks a lot! it was really helpful for my homework! :)

  • @vickysanmon glad to help :)

  • I loved a Scanner darkley, but it was too depressing. I love Waking life more. This movie gives me a good spiritual recharge.

  • @uh0oo i know exactly what you mean

  • Don't follow her advice on "watch it in parts". Watch it all at once.

  • when i had my first lucid dream the thing that i did was go around and grab girls boobs i don't know i guess is because I'm 19

  • @malaverde13 LOL that MIGHT have something to do with it

  • @myRealLifeNickname why thank you! aaww too bad about the 20% although the first few time i saw it i had to rewind parts to understand what people were saying. like a good book when you need to read a few pages again. a lovely long comment thank you, i always like those :) take care, Kat

  • bless u at 4:39

  • @heavyrocer thanks :)

  • Blessings. Maybe it was the sun?

  • @Kushami17 the sun??

  • @KatharineJovey Yep. The sun. :) It makes some people sneeze.

  • @Kushami17 i donno i think it can help you sneeze but i think it was the grass lol however, when i feel a sneezing coming on ill look at the sun to help make it happen..maybe thats what youre referring to?

  • @KatharineJovey You're partly right. It's both. The sun can help a stuck sneeze along, and it may be the actual cause of the sneeze. In my case it's both. :)

  • I love this movie, 2 days two watch. i've known how to lucid dream for a long time. it took me 3 weeks to master it. the possibilities are endless. the movie is really spot on.

  • @vodoojeff glad you agree. i love it! neat about the dreaming :)

  • i hope ur in ur backyard... cause if ur not, how awkward if someone walked past!!

like when ur singing in a dead street and sum1 speeds past in a bike laughing..

anyways... totally agree about the movie lol =)

  • @sibais glad you agree. and sure is my backyard!

  • bless you! you should make a video of you sneezing.. its so cute

  • @davesyourfave not a good excuse i know but....lol it is what it is. soooooon or ill use jays and play w you. what do u want to play?

  • @KatharineJovey well i dont have many games, i have like 5 or 6.. the only multiplayer ones i have are l4d2, halo, and mw2 i think. and i have some arcade games that i played with mike and jason. so i guess we can play some l4d2??

  • @davesyourfave l4d2 it is!!! yayyy

  • jesus my dreams are weird enough without them being moe lucid.....i havnt seen scanner darkly either but its something i can go and watch i suppose.

  • Good vid, keep it up Hun :) y do u never play xbox live?

  • @spysean thanks. and i do my membership is expired at the moment so sooooon

  • oh and for people who want to learn more about lucid dreaming, i picked up a book from chapters called "The Power of Creative Dreaming" by Pamela Ball...a very good read

  • @KitRangersHockey sweet ill have to check that out!

  • This film is amazing, it really makes you think about the unconscious self. Got me into lucid dreaming. A must see

  • @KitRangersHockey glad you agree! i LOVE IT

  • @KatharineJovey i really liked the part when he passes the girl in the stairwell and she feels she needs to stop and talk to him, because it seems people just walk past everyone like ants, with no human interaction - kinda sums up most of society these days. glad you enjoyed this movie, def my top 5

  • @KitRangersHockey yyeess that part of great as well! a great conversation

  • Gesundheit

  • @boomerxxx why thank you!

  • Looks like an interesting movie. I enjoyed A Scanner Darkly a bit, so I'm sure that will be decent too.

Lucid dreaming is interesting. I've only done it a few times, but it's fun. I think my last one was about Zombies. Fun times.

  • @thisweekinlinux OoOO scary . i hope to fly soon in a lucid dream, i feel like i havent done that for years but i did it a million times as a child

  • Didnt like scanner darkly, but loved before sunrise and before sunset to death.

So now i HAVE to see this.

Btw, do they mention in this movie that we are all the same being testing itself through seperation by living in this three dimentional realm and that dreaming is our souls releasing themselves from our bodies for a short time, to be free?

    ....a lil curious....

  • @skulljoint you should def check it out. and no they dont talk about that, but thats an interesting idea!

  • that looks like a really cool m movie.

    great video kat :)

  • @davesyourfave thanks hun :)

  • Sounds interesting...but another thought provoking movie I want to see first is "the human centipede" :D

  • @wonderpope that movie looks scary...waking life is thought provoking in a very different way. but interesting that you mention thc

  • i have seen this movie 4 times its one of does movies that changes the way you see thing like akira ore evangelion i should take some time and see it good movie to talk about thx keep doing what you are doing and we will keep watching lol
