Travis! another awsome vid! can i just ask whenever the left camera angle is on there has constantly been what appears to be a large McDonalds drink carton/cup in this studio, is that what it is and if it is do i win a prize for spotting it........pretty please???
how high do you set the tension on your pedals? i used to always have the tension as high as possible. recently i started to play around with it. i set it lower and felt i had more control, but had to work more for simple diddles from lack of spring back. i'd like to hear your input, because you have some really good, precise footwork in this vid.
I don't know about anyone else but I could definitely use some vids from taylor on how he gets these drum sounds. Cause the snare in EVERY SINGLE ONE of your videos is just incredible. I mean it's all good, but the snare is just SOOOO incredible. I'm an aspiring recording engineer, and snare bleed is my number 1 problem right now.
@shaftninja Yeah i usually use a combination of an expander and a gate, and i've tried all kinds of mic positions, and the snare mic i have is supercardiod. I'm not sure what else i can do.
@DamionChrist no, when he hits with his left on the left side it is on the right, sound wise meaning if you were standing in front of the kit that's where the spectator is, use a stereo, if he hits that china on his right it would be on the right in his seat, in the left on my speakers and anyone else who has stereo not mono, who friggin cares anyway......point being I thought it is cool how he hits a china with his right hand and it's panned left troll
Don#t get me wrong i like crazy music with weird time signatures. well... kinda. cause the stuff travis does freaks me out most of the time. haha. he is like a machine! great work, even I can't really listen to it.
Every time I click on your vids I get more reassured that we don't play the same instrument... they may look and sound the same... but NOPE... you definitely play a something else I'm almost certain drummers aren't supposed to be able to do that...
By far my favorite. Travis and DIG, you are amazing. I only wish this song could stay an instrumental on the album. I know DIG has it in them to be a instrumental super group (in relation to the size of other instrumental groups) like Animals As Leaders or Scale The Summit to name only two.
@inimicalODDITY Still not as informative as I had hoped. It's not normal notation, what's with the numbers as noteheads, what do the numbers mean? I am more interested in hearing from Travis, how he prepares the track, writes and reads it when he records and how he works with the other band members to arrange the parts.
@garrettmillerdrums Look at the description on his vid for Pixieprog, one of his earlier vids. There's a legend on that transcription that explains the numbers... Although i still don't know how the heck he can read that, IF that's how he reads it lol
@romeo13x It's actually Guitar Pro annotation. The numbers represent a certain sound in the program, so you can actually play through the piece before you ever even print it off and work out all the kinks in the computer, then learn the version you want the first time.
@rhythmkeeper009 oh, cool to know, thanks. But on his Pixieprog transcription legend, the numbers represent notes such as bass hit, rimshot, ghost stroke, cymbal hits, etc etc... For anyone without or not savvy in Guitar Pro
@howycwap@zwek95 These drums are blended with samples, yes - samples that Taylor and I took down. Sometimes samples are extremely helpful when building a solid mix. The DiG stuff sounds mighty, distinguished, and defined. There are plenty of videos on my channel that feature 100% natural drums.
Next time in town, what are the chances of me popping by for a drum recording lesson :P check out my vids for an idea as to where i am at in my Drum Audio Engineering career
hey travis could possibly help me out here? My problem is that im learning heels up,( as i have drummed heels down for four years and need more power and stamina and speed and control, i can only go about 220-230 heels down and i need faster speeds for my band.) and i absolutely cannot perform the motion (of which i know how to do correctly) with my right foot only. i can bass well with my left but not my right. is there something i can do away from the set, i dont have a lot of time to play :(
@xam154 You should look into my 'barehand / barefoot' lesson that I sell out of my Big Cartel store for something you can do away from the kit. And geez, faster than 220-230? Tell your band mates to take some Xanax or something, haha.
@Drummerdudeftw I rehearsed it initially just moments before tracking. Thankfully, Will was patient; then again, he didn't really have anywhere to go on account of the snow, haha.
I'm curious. Do you practice this much at all before you record, or is your ability to read this great?
