The history of past Supreme Court justices has nothing to do with whether Sotomeyer would make a better judge. You have a double standard about what you consider racist depending on which race is involved. She said that her race makes her a better judge. Martin Luther King said that people should be judged by the content of their character not the color of their skin. As for Affirmative Racism, it does exist. Before Prop 209, race-based quotas limited Asian admissions to University of California schools. After Prop 209 banned race-based admissions, Asians went from being 1/5 of new freshmen to being well over 1/2. Buchanan has some good points on the Iraq war but thats where it stops. I do believe that he has prejudiced feelings and is more honest about the white race and how he subtly feels its superior. Racist entails thinking your race is inherently better. I'd say Pat thinks Anglo-American culture is better, but not the race necessarily. I've read State of Emergency, and the argument is basically that Latino culture is eroding away at Euro-American culture, rather than a message that Latino people are inherently inferior.
It's nuanced but I wouldn't call him a racist- more just backwards culturally, "living in the 50's"

The history of past Supreme Court justices has nothing to do with whether Sotomeyer would make a better judge. You have a double standard about what you consider racist depending on which race is involved. She said that her race makes her a better judge. Martin Luther King said that people should be judged by the content of their character not the color of their skin. I agree with Martin Luther King and disagree with Sotomeyer who has the opposite opinion.

Well, I would agree if Pat Buchanon if almost every single Supreme Court Justice was a Hispanic woman. Dont think that she said that as a personal attack. She was saying that about the fact that there were mostly white males there. If she had said "white women" instead, then it would have been racist. But the point is, its not as easy as it seems when you live in it.Money and respect tempt everyone, not just people in the ghettos. For instance, a mother hounds her kid to stay in school, and he might listen. One day, hes walking home from school and some guy tells him to give this thing to another guy. If higher qualified Asian students are refused admission to public universities so that lesser qualified Latinos and blacks can be admitted, the state is discriminating against Asians because of race. If being denied a higher education because of your race isn't oppression, you don't know the meaning of the word.

As for Affirmative Racism, it does exist. Before Prop 209, race-based quotas limited Asian admissions to University of California schools. After Prop 209 banned race-based admissions, Asians went from being 1/5 of new freshmen to being well over 1/2. Proof that higher qualified Asian students were being passed over for less qualified blacks and hispanics.
Now go read a book, I suggest "Animal Farm".
