Paul Gilbert recorded this track while a student at the musicians institute GIT [Guitar institute of technology] School. He was quite young at the time.
Yep, That's Paul Gilbert alright(early). EVH is probably my favorite player in the world, but he can't play like this.Gilbert is SO fluid/fast !!! He defines"Shred" better than most others. Malmsteen would of done nicely.
It definitely is Paul Gilbert, but the production of the album left a lot to be desired. (BUT THAT'S WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE A BIG NAME RECORD LABEL BANKROLLING YOU!)
I seen Darrell Mansfield perform at a skating-rink of all places, in Yuba City Ca. I bought a T-shirt that he sold and signed at the show! It was "that" good of a concert to be able to remember it from the 70's!!!!
This is defintely a young Paul Gilbert probably in his early 20's. He is listed on the credits of the album and part of the reason I THINK that grunge came along and demolished the metal scene was becuase of leads like this. It got to a point that a kid could no longer pik up a guitar and learn a song anymore. I was part of this flashy era and played flashy guitar too but it had its time. Good to see leads in metal making a comeback over the past few years!
Awsome to see this vid again. I had the great oppourtunity to play with Darrell and Eric at Calvary Chappel in Spokane back around the year 2000. We jammed Friday and Saturday night both and we all had a great time.
Wow. To date these guys and myself, I still have my cassette tape, signed by them all (well at least three of them, I have to find it, it was Darrell, Eric, and Jeff for sure). I didn't know they had made a "band sync" video of this. Awesome!
It's Gilbert on the recording. I got it right from Darrell himself. He played two songs on the Revelation album. This song is one of them. Darrell's guitar player Eric Turner brought Gilbert into the studio during recording. Darrell scoffed at the idea of Paul playing on the album because he was just a kid. Then Paul started playing. Darrell was in shock. Darrell asked Paul what planet he was from. Paul even did a few gigs with Darrell. Paul also plays on the song "After the storm".
That doesn't sound like Paul Gilbert on guitar. Paul has a much more technical and clean sound than this. Don't get me wrong...I love it and I think it sound awesome and shredding and everything, but I don't think it's Gilbert. Let me know what you guys think! Jesus Christ is Lord, Redeemer, Healer and Provider!
One of the highlights to the album Revelation is the guest appearance made by the talented Paul Gilbert (Racer X, Mr. Big), who contributes his lightning-like riffing to After The Storm and Jesus Will Reign.
@dannyandjason4jesus Another funny thing - the young Mr Gilbert, not realizing how many people this would actually reach, totally rips off Eddie Van Halen's "Light Up The Sky" riff. He defintely didn't need to as he's got chops to spare, but it's pretty blatant. I'm sure he'd totally laugh about it today :)

Trying to air-guitar a PG solo.....................(funny)! That poor guy looks like he's having a siezure or stroke; anything but playing it true.
